Chapter 138
The stabs end and I can breathe again. Sitting up looking around for the source of the decaying scent and or the reason for the broken bonds.
“What the hell was that man?” Kaleb wheezes out. “Does it look like I know dip shit?” Huffing as I get up. “Okay well how about this one then? Who were they? Like I felt the bonds break but they don’t link to anyone?” “that my friend is a good question. Here's another good one. Why has Enoy not linked for a report on the bonds or even Jas?” “Dude why does it feel like we just stepped into a horror movie?” “you know normally I would say stop watching those movies it’s messing with your head. But I can’t find a good argument to prove you wrong.” Standing up I link the guard on this area. “fox trout delta Roman report?” following the scent to a ditch. Looking down I see bodies in various stages of decay.
Shocked I snap my eyes up looking around taking notes of where we are. How is this so far in our border and no one noticed. “did the team link you?” “nope. Can you pick up a patrol scent pattern?” sniffing the air as he speaks. Taking a big whiff shaking my head. “where did the pup go?” I ask “what pup?” “what do you mean “what pup?” the pup we followed here.” I huff out at him in a have you lost it, tone.
“No, I followed you. There was no pup? What did it look like?” “what the fuck is going on? I don’t want anyone near this area. Not that that seems it will be an issue. I still didn’t we run through here last month?” I scratch the back of my neck. Kaleb nods his head. “I ran the border last week showing the recruits the emergency kits along the border. I know I came this way. I would have seen this. Look right there it’s the rose knot.” Pointing to a tree to the right. There at hand height is a knot. The rings in the knot form a rose. Meaning it’s a knob for a hidden trunk.
If I’m close enough to make out the rose knot clearly, Then they would have been close enough to see and smell this. “go to the emergency stash.” I nod at Kaleb. He hogs over. Turning around he jerks in shock looking around. “okay man haha come out.” He says. “dude what do you mean?” “max come on it’s not funny. Max?” he turns around. Walking back to me he walks past. “Kaleb?” “max?” rolling my eyes I try linking him “dude what the hell?” nothing. Spinning around trying to figure out what is happening. “it's not his place to hear this, my child. I needed you Alone. A silky voice fills the air around me.
“the master plans to attack your pack the night Luna of Luna’s Eos will be doing the princess naming ceremony. If he wins this is the future for this pack.” The voice coldly told me. An edge so sharp it could split pollen. “who are you?” I demand. “I am no one. Take what I give or not it’s no longer my problem.” I get the feeling of someone throwing their arms up in frustration. Then I’m shoved flying through the air landing on Kaleb. “what the hell man? Where were you?” Kaleb groans pushing me off him.
“I don’t fucking know man help me find the hole again. Do you feel the ache of broken bonds anymore 'cause ya I can t?” slowly getting up. Looking around but the smell and hole are gone. The scent of our patrols was heavy in the air marking our borders. “what the fuck man. Was that even real?” Kaleb stands looking around. “I think it was an illusion? Come on I want to write a report up so I don’t forget anything. I am not interrupting Enoy and Kai until tomorrow. Unless you want to go tell her?” smirking at the last part knowing he has his hand up and shaking his head eyes wide with fear. “nope no way man can’t pay me enough. It’s bad enough ros walked in on me and dean.”
I couldn’t hold back my barking laughter at the thought of pure sweet ros catching her brother like that. “wait who was doing the pounding and who was receiving? Hear me out. Think about it did she see you as her brother or her sister?” slapping his shoulder as he growls at me.
“Not funny how would you feel if rose walked in on you?” “who says she hasn’t? Think she moved next door because she was too loud?” grinning at him. “How did fallen take it cause dean is so not taking it well hiding somewhere.” He huffs out as we head back. Today has been one hell of a day and it’s not even over yet. Fuck.
Running into a couple of very shocked warriors on our walk back. “beta, delta we didn’t know you were coming out. Please excuse the mess we were just finishing lunch.” John team lead of second squad. “no rush John. We are just out for a stroll away from the ears in the walls. Kaleb is trying to plan a romantic date for dean. Do you guys have any ideas he could use?” smirking at Kaleb as the guys start talking over each other. I wasn’t worried about the wrappers sitting next to them. Our pack takes pride in our pack and lands no way they would leave garbage behind.
“Didn’t you say you were looking for a way to make dean feel better?” I link as I rush off to write up my very detailed report. Mostly I just needed some alone time to go over what that voice said. How do I stop the death of our pack? If I wasn’t a good friend I would make Enoy deal with this. But I’ll do it.
Walking into the house the room is frozen in fear. There in the center of the entry is Freya screaming this high-pitched whistle noise. Every wolf in the room has streaks of red coming from all of one's ears. My own ears feel like they exploded with the sound. All too soon the noises around me died. My eyes widen in fear. My own panic added to the room.
Freya jumps up and squats. A large black with red specked egg lands on the floor under her. Panting she drops to the ground and licks the eggs. The red spots turn to red swirls and twirls all over the black shell. The red glowing and dim mimicking the beat of a heart.
