Chapter 78

what the hell did he give me? ear plugs. Oh, he's so dead. “ill get you back dick wad” I link him. Waving his hand above his head as he walks laughing. John chuckling next to me. Amara comes up behind me and whispers in my ear “maybe time with the alpha will calm him down some.” dame if she isn't smart maybe seeing how we hold ourselves he will grow out of that teenishness I know we all had. I don’t want to damper him too much he is still young but his stories are boring and he thinks he's funnier than he is. I feel for his mate already,

Slipping the small box into my pocket as she stands ready to leave. Saying our goodbyes we headed to the trucks. Opening the door I find every seat in the truck has a picnic basket on it. Opening the one on my seat warm aromatic steam lifts from the base. The basket is full of mouthwatering snacks. “the boys wanted to send you off with food you know brownies. The baskets are spelled to keep the food good and warm once the last is eaten the spell will lift and the baskets will return to us.” Eria tells me from the steps. Man fae doesn’t mess around. No wonder you can never find real proof of fae they never leave anything behind. Watching Breena and wade say their goodbyes to Eria. I hear Eria promise to visit soon as she settled in the pack.

Two hours into a six-hour drive Amara loses her cool with max. It took all I had not to laugh at what she was doing. Instead of hitting him or yelling she started talking about her period and the cramping and all the mess it can make. Then about how she's not looking forward to the first heat glancing back max looks a little green. She stops talking crosses her arms and stares at him waiting for him to look at her. When he does she gets a wicked smile “not so fun having to listen to something you don’t care about huh?” he nods “sorry” shrugging her shoulders “it's cool just remember to think about who you're talking to we are not your school friends we are a team of warriors. Read the room and adjust your conversation to it.” he nods I can see him looking around and thinking “why did no one say something before?” he wonders out loud “cause they tune you out.” she shrugs laughing. Causing him to laugh and the rest of us. After that, he no longer talked about stupid things but focused on what we are doing. Opening his mind to other music. The more he listened to me and john I could tell his brain working to file away the interaction to dissect later. He joined in many times now giving well-thought-out input telling me once he fully focuses he's going to be a warrior like no other.

Finally, four hours later we pull into the parking lot at a warehouse. There should have been a guard to direct us when there was no one we jumped out and headed into the treeline where we find the trail leading to the pack. Rushing down the path we start to hear the sounds of fighting. Shifting we take off. As we go I link them all to have someone stay back and watch when the rogue's retreat follow them. I am tired of being the mouse in this game it's time I become the fucking alpha wolf I am. Breaking through the trees I see the battlefield littered with wolves. Sniffing the air I cant smell the rogues so I know they are the rogue king's wolves so I charge into the fight. Tackling a dirty brown wolf ripping his neck out from behind. His body dropping to the ground in a puddle of his blood I seek out my next target. I notice a male standing just in the treeline. Linking the pack to have someone watch and follow him. He seems to be in charge. A scent I have not smelled in years passed me fast. It was like a ghost running past me stopping me in my tracks and spinning looking for Sara. I know I smelled her but I can't see her where is she? Shaking my head I let it go for now but file it away to look into later

Ripping throat after throat our covering my chest in the bright red life essence of these rogues. The ground is a red and brown muddy mess making it hard to get a good grip on the earth. A loud whistle fills the air and the rogues start taking off leaving empty-handed. Keeping my guard up I stake the area looking for any wounded or left for dead rogues finding none. As I make it back to the field littered with dead wolves I notice the rogues start to smoke and catch fire on their own. Leaving nothing but ash soon carried away in the wind. I now have more questions than answers. Helping the hill pack gather their dead making It to the packhouse I shift slipping on a pair of shorts. Looking down at my body covered in the blood of who knows how many rogues. Linking my pack members to meet in the front of the house and wait. Heading into the house I find the alpha of the hill pack tending to the wounds of a she-wolf. Getting closer I can see it's his mate and Luna. Rushing over to help with her wounds. He's so out of his mind with grief he doesn't know what to do. Grabbing a young wolf from the hill pack I send her to get a medic and any supplies to dress the wound. John comes to help he pries the alpha from his mate as I do what I can to stop the bleeding. I can hear her breathing in shallow breaths but she's breathing so that's something. When the medics make it they start dumping things on the long jagged claw mark across her body. She screams out in pain as it bubbles. A green goo starts seeping from her wounds. The smell is pungent and turns my stomach. “what?”

“We had a young girl get lost from a rogue attack a few months ago. She had a scratch on her arm that got infected and her wolf wouldn't heal her. After testing her blood a position made of liquid silver and wolfsvaine was in the scratch I believe they are lacing their claws with it. It took her a month to purge it from her system but Luna's wound being on her chest will make it to her heart and she won't heal. So I am burring it out with something our head doctor came up with. It will help her wolf healing to kick in as soon as its burned all the poisons out of the wound. I hope we are not too late.” I don’t know if the medic is talking to me or himself but I take in all the information he dishes out.
