Chapter 84
Rolling over ignoring the knocking on my door. Pulling the thick blanket over my head. The scent of sweet pasties fills my nose. Odd.
The door burst open “damn it are you gonna sleep all day? How often do we get a weekend away from the pack?” A sweet strong voice fills the room. Who the hell is that? Peeking my head out I see a pixie-sized pale blonde girl standing in the middle of a small room with hands on her hips. “What?” Oh, what the fuck was that? That could not be my voice. I don’t have a deep husky voice.
“If you don’t get out of that bed now I’ll drag you out and we both know you can’t beat me.” She growls. The room shook from the power behind her growl. Jumping up out of bed she screams and covers her eyes. “for the love of the cold Kai put some pants on. At least we know your mate will be happy but I don’t want to see you mini-me.” She screeches turning around. Confused I look down seeing a very naked male body. Yelping I grab a blanket covering myself. “could you give me a minute or twenty please?” “ten minutes then I’m dragging you to town for the weekend bitch” she storms out.
Okay, where am I? Who am I? Who is that? Where is the bathroom I have to pee. Wait how does this work? Feeling the buds of panic start and then fall to the back of my mind as I start to slip back of my mind. Watching and hearing but not able to interact.
Showering new sensations fill me as my hands wash over my hard body. Stepping out of the shower I look in the mirror. “okay Kai today is the day. Our mate is not in the pack so the first step is the village. Let’s hope she’s there and I won't be so far from family and Fallen.”
True to her word fallen is storming through my door again as I close my bag. “ where have you been Len? I been waiting on you for what feels like ever?” “shut up loser let’s go. Dad says they need us to make the delivery to the village since we are taking one of the snowmobiles.” Nodding I throw my bag over my shoulder as we head down to the garage where the snow vehicles are kept. We don’t use them unless making deliveries or going to the village. They are faster in the snow than we are just running.
“So you hoping to find your mate as well?” “of course stupid. I’m the only sow here. Granted Matthew will have pups but he’s only one bear. He can’t be the only one keeping the line going. What about you?” “yea and now. I mean yes cause I want my mate. Yes because I would still be close to the pack but can live in the village. No, because I want to see more than this white-and-blue world we live in. Maybe somewhere warmer. You know no furs needed to sleep or just stay alive.” Shivering as we step out of the cabin. The white frozen world is so bright it could blind a blind man. Slipping our goggles on to protect our eyes from the bright light. The best thing about living here there is always light because the sun and moon are both reflective of the white blanket.
Making it to the garage I see Matt finishing loading the boxes on the sleds behind the snow rider. “alright you two behave. Here’s the bank card for the hotel and food for the weekend. Stay out of trouble okay.” We nod as I slip the bank card into my pocket. “we will. Tell your mate I’m still waiting for her list of needs from the village.” Fallen huffs as her brother. He hugs her and nobs. “okay have fun and let’s hope luck is in our favor.” Handing me the key he walks off back to his cabin. “how much longer?” “She has a month before the sleep if she sleeps hard to say being that she’s human.” She shrugs as we climb on the snow rider.
Starting it up I hit the gas and we fly through the trees and snow heading to the village. Smiling and laughing as this is the closest to running as fast as we can in our shifted form but not. It’s thrilling and exciting.
It takes an hour to get to town. Pulling up at the fish market a big guy ambles over. “awe Mr. snow and Mrs. Frost your early. Could I bother you to help unload as my helper is not due for another thirty minutes or so?” the hope in his eyes pulled at my heart. “of course, Mr. Duncan. Where do you want everything?” I ask getting off the rider. Fallen following suit.
By the time his helper arrived we had it all unloaded and ready to be inventoried. “thank you both. I will have the paperwork filled out and emailed to your father by nightfall.” He says shaking my wrist nodding and smiling at him before we head to check into the inn.
“Anything?” I ask sniffing the air. My hope slowly dying as I don’t smell anything mouthwatering. Glancing over I see her shoulders drop” “well we still have all weekend right? They could be on a boat or hunting right.” “maybe they are meeting the barged with the good for the stores and all online orders from up here.” “see that’s the spirit we have to keep our heads up.” Bumping her shoulder. She bumped me back as I hit a spot of ice. Slipping I bumped into some guy. “oh my I’m so sorry. Please forgive me, ice, right? No matter how much you respect it still knocks you down.” I chuckle smiling at the dark-haired you.
Had I been paying attention I would have seen the she-wolf watching from the shadows.
