Chapter 64
The days turned to weeks then months and still nothing. Every lead was a dead end it’s like I’m being blocked from all angles and it’s pissing me off.
I have been able to sneak away to the club a few times but it’s lost its appeal. The dancing and drinks are great but being touched are starting to become painful. I am so tired of it all. What did I do to cause so much?
Sitting at my desk with my email open. How do I start this? I’m sure if given a chance to make things better between the pack everyone would want that right. I scanned in Artemis and Apollo’s birth records to attach as an olive branch. But how do I start hey ya sorry my grandpa kinda stole the Winters's pack from your grandma how about we call a truce you keep your pack and I’ll keep mine? That sounds great and all but I’m sure they will want my title as well. Well, it’s not really my title but it was freely given to me so I have to freely give it up. That’s the thing about blessings they can’t be taken against your will. Well, not normally. And let’s look at this in retrospect. How can Artemis be the Luna of the black rose and be the alpha of alphas it just wouldn’t work. That’s too many hats.
A loud screaming sound comes from outside. Looking up I see the two birds flying over the hill at our border. They seem to be circling something. Odd. “Athena are you up for an adventure?” I ask myself out loud. Hitting save to drafts I sneak away. It’s a new skill I am working on fern has her coven shadowing me. Everywhere. Like I was in a bath relaxing when one of her minions burst through the door. “oh sorry you didn’t respond so.” The red-faced girl stumbled over. “I fell asleep happens in a good bath you should try it.” She nods “maybe now.” I point to the door. Jumping she scurries out of my bathroom. I need some space.
So I have been practicing sneaking away I’m getting better. Today things were on my side. Sneaking down the back stairs to the seventh entrance and down the foot bath to the tail in the woods where the teens sneak away to. I use to sit in my room watching them sneak off to have fun while I was stuck learning how to be a leader. Some days I wish I had been Sally instead of me. No one expects anything from Sally other than pups one day. Tomorrow we hold the tournament final. It’s taken too long to get everything set up and ready. Also, this long wait gave the pack plenty of time to really think about if they wanted to enter or not. When I saw Sally’s name on the roster I was a bit shocked but also happy. She would be the best beta for me really. Who else is better at being your right hand but the one person that knows everything about you?
Now I wish I had not taken myself out of being a judge but I wanted this to be fair, being the alpha I have a little pull one way or another so best if I stayed out of it. I spent many nights sparing with Sally getting her ready. Any questions they ask I know she will do great it’s her wild fighting style that has me worried. To the untrained eye, she looks like a hot mess of moves and jabs. But if you watch her feet it’s a dance she’s practiced her whole life. She's clever weaker than most but clever. I pray to the goddess to help Sally stand her ground.
Following the worn trail through the woods to the hills I hear the sounds of screeching and what sounds like something dying. Creating the hill I see a young elk trapped in a sink hole the mother long gone probably scared away by the birds. They look to be huge vultures. Odd they are not known to be around this area. But death calls to them. Jumping down I wrangle the young bull acquiring several scratches and bruises that heal just as fast as they form. Getting annoyed I growled at the poor thing making it freeze in fear. Just what this baby needed more scary things. A loud horn sound comes from above. Looking up I see a huge bull with a rack the size of well me. He must be the big daddy of them all. Tossing his head and pawing the ground his stance screams “bring it on”
Grabbing the calf I work out way back out of the hole. The small thing is crying out for his mom as I drag him up. As soon as his feet touched the ground he was gone. Running through the underbrush screaming the whole way. Big papa swings his head about keeping me away. Holding my hands up backing away. Stumbling I fall backward into the hole. Hitting my head so hard all I see is a bright white light.
The rushing of blood to my head is all I hear as my vision slowly returns only I’m no longer in the hole I’m staring at a gray wall with chains on it. The slow drip of water is the only sound in the room. I shiver at the draft. Reaching around looking for anything to cover myself with I feel my ribs scream in protest. Hissing at the pain I find the bare thread blanket pulling it over me. I can feel the tears fall down my cheeks as I stare at the gray wall. What did I do to deserve this? Where am I? What happened? All good questions but no one’s here to answer them.
“Allison my dear today is a special day. As you turned thirteen yesterday you are getting too old not to make me money so I arrange for a special client to break you in. I do hope you make them very happy. If not well I’m sure there are other ways for you to earn your keep.” A horse's gravely voice fills the room. Looking around I see no one but I notice a small red blinking light in the corner of the room. I feel angry but I also feel broken and defeated.
