Chapter 34
A deep rumble comes from the living room floor. Looking over I chuckle at Freya and Kaleb cuddled up but also my heart clenches at how sick they look. Feeling fallen close behind me, I reach behind me to pull her to me. But she pulled back. Snapping my eyes to her in question we had spoken last night and I know she wants me as bad as I want her. I had agreed to wait to mark her until she is ready even though Ambrose urges me to mark her now. Ambrose pulls a bag I didn’t notice before into the room. “young beta do not touch your mate right now I need her to gather things and if your scent is all over her they will know.” I go to point out he told me to do it right away “ before you through a fit I know what I said and that was before this” he waves a hand at Kaleb and Freya. “so now I need her to go into the lion's den and retrieve things.” when he starts dancing around and giggling I think he's lost it.
“awe there you are Matilda dear. I need to ask you a great big favor. Will you please ride on the young master black's mate's shoulder into the main house? I need you to do your thing and find the young alpha. But no biting whats so ever okay sneaky hide and seek.” he starts talking to his finger. Looking around at Jas and fallen they both look just as lost. “no, no everything will be fine let Eris know to stay put for now. Here you go” he pulls a small piece of the rainbow fruit out of his pocket holding it to his finger and a large almost fist size spider is standing there. Looking closer it's a miniature version of Eris's spider. “Ummm not to sound stupid but right now I’m feeling a lot stupid, but where did the spider come from and why does it look like Matilda Eris spider, and did you call it Matilda?” rubbing my palms over my face. This has to be a bad dream.
“This is Matilda or well a piece of her. Now come here young blacks mate Matilda needs to make contact for a few minutes to shift colors.” I want to pull fallen back away from this crazy man I have no choice in trusting. Why do I trust him? well, Enoy seems to trust him, as does Freya, and if what he said is true so does Eris and Matilda. Wait did he say “did you just tell her to tell Eris to stay put. Does that mean she could signal for someone to come help?” “yes and no. A lot is going on back at the pack right now. Besides, do you really need to call your sire for help?” raising his brow at me in challenge. My wolf puffed our chest out to meet the challenge. “awe yes there it is young black I was wondering if you had the black backbone.” growling in frustration at this man.
“Okay, once she disappears all you need to do is walk into the main house. She will tap your neck three times to stop then you will feel her leave your shoulder when she's off don’t react to her anyway to alert someone she's there.” “um? Sir?” she whispers out “speak up, child” “well if you're sending your spider……” with a wave of his hand “shes not my spider she's Eris's spider shes just on loan a training exercise” “um okay well you said that it will report things like where the alpha is well could it maybe tell you where kai is? please?” the plea so heavy in her voice. The room fills with the scent of salt telling me she's close to tears. I want to take her in my arms and comfort her, but I know I can't she can't smell like me they can't know that she would be the key to breaking not only me but the rest of us. Thinking over everything this man has said we have six days before we feel the breaking of the bond that both Kaleb and Freya are feeling.
“oh no, Rosemary is she?” not finishing as I swing my head to look at Kaleb. “no boy she does not feel the bond fracture. One she is too far away and second she does not share the alpha and delta bond they share.” a collective breath was released from myself and jasmine. “okay beta mate be silent gather all I have said the sooner you can get the jars and salt to me the better. I do need the iron pots outside the border by the high moon the timeline is very short.” fallen nods and looks at me giving me a sad smile before she turns and rushes out of the door. Watching her walk down the path taking my heart with her I pray to the goddess all goes smoothly and she's back in here soon.
“okay shall push beds together and put them on it to be more comfortable?” Ambrose says clapping his hands. Looking at Jas I nod and we head to the closest room. Pushing the beds close and yanking the blankets down I head to the living room to help with Freya and Kaleb. “you grab Kaleb I am sure Freya is lighter than he is.” Jas snickers. Rolling my eyes I go to grab Kaleb. “Be careful you don’t yank that tube out it will kill them both” Ambrose says in passing like it's not a big deal. Swallowing hard looking at Jas we nod and slowly lift them up at the same rate and speed. Slowly making our way to the room “they won't break hurry up” he huffs at us. “you just said to be careful we could kill them” “ well ya like if you walk in different directions so when you go to lay them on the bed they have to go on the same side.” that is I hate this man I am going to kill him. Taking a deep breath we get in the room Jas steps up on the bed to walk across with Freya. Setting them in we cover them and go back out to the living room kitchen area to find the counters covered with things.
“well take this I need it half filled with your blood and half with yours,” he says pointing at us. Too tired and annoyed I just slice my palm open when he yanks it back. “lower rank first lghhited lkegfi.” “what that?” I was as I hand the blade to Jas. “nothing don’t worry just hurry this is sensitive.”
