Chapter 99
A burning sensation at the base of my neck, has me gasping shooting out of bed grabbing for whatever is burning me. Finding nothing a panic more. Then it hits me I feel nothing.
Rushing to the bathroom I throw the lights on and stare in the mirror. Where the rose pendant once sat was now a silver burn in the shape of the pendant. The necklace is gone. What the hell? Maybe it snapped off finally, but what’s with the burn mark? I’ll head to see a healer in the morning.
Heading back to bed I switch the side lamp on to search the bed for the necklace. Finding nothing I’m even more confused. Shrugging I change and head down to meet my dad. As I make my way I think about the dreams. Before they were like my own memories but now thinking about them they get foggy. Panic rises in my chest. I can’t forget what I've seen I still need to make sense of what I’ve seen.
Changing direction I head to Sally and Michaela's room. Not stopping to knock o throw open the door. I should have stopped and knocked. There are some things you should not see and your sister with her face between her mate's legs is one of them. Yelping I turn and rush out of the room slamming the door.
“what the hell Tina?” Sally yells. “sorry sorry. I needed to talk to Michaela. It’s a bit urgent. I’m so so very sorry” pacing I can hear them storming about in their room. “okay it's safe now.” Slowly opening the door “again I’m so sorry.” “what is so important?” Sally growled. “well first the necklace is gone leaving a burn behind. Second, the dreams which I have yet to fully piece together are starting to fade. I need Michaela to find a way to keep them or help me figure them out.” I rush hoping it is enough to get Sally to forgive me.
“fade? How so?” Michaela asks as she gets up and makes her way to me. “well before they stayed in my mind like my own memories. I could think back on them like my own thoughts. But something changed and this time when I started to think about the dreams it all started to get foggy. I can’t lose them before I know what it all meant.” I plead. Tilting her head she looks me over. Pressing a finger to the rose-shaped scar at the base of my neck just under the dip in my throat.
“hurt?” I shake my head. “it looks just like the necklace did only it’s a burn. It’s like a silver burn at that but the pendant wasn’t silver was it?” “Not that I noticed I mean it didn’t burn or hurt while it was on.” “Can I see it?” she holds her hand out.
“Ya, that well the thing is it disappeared. All that’s left is this burn.” The confusion just grew on her face as I spoke. “odd. I want to draw some blood let’s head to my lab. We can talk about the dreams and see if we find a way to figure them out at the very least.” She says as she rushes to the closet to change out of her nightgown. Sally is sitting on the edge of the bed with her arms crossed. Annoyance and understanding are both visible on her face. “ill forgive you this one time but if you don’t knock from now on…” she lets the sentence just die glaring at me. “maybe learn to lock the door. Anyone could have just walked in.” “no one stupid enough to just walk into my room.” “did you just call me stupid?” I growl glaring at her.
“Both of you stop it right now. You fighting is the last thing we need.” “but my love I was not done and I know you were not.” “and that would have changed had she knocked?” she raises her one eyebrow at Sally daring her to argue the facts. “okay this one time you might be a little right.” She grumbled dropping her shoulders in defeat. “oh don’t look so blue my love there is always tonight I less that was the last time you planned to….” “what?” Sally bulks and Michaela busts out laughing. Crossing the room she kisses Sally goodbye. “you might want to let your father know Athena won’t be making it to training today.” “fine but she owes me for this.” “yes, she does. And she will make it up to us in time.” With one last kiss, she straightens and heads to the door. I follow like a toddler who just got caught with their hand in the cookie jar.
“tell me about the dreams that start at the beginning. If they are fading the oldest will be the first to leave.” As we make our way to her lab I tell her everything I can remember. Glossing over some of the more stomach-turning things.
“so did my mother tell you dreams and visions are never straight? Not everything means something or is real. The real task will be to find the real and fake memories as you have mentioned the same thing but in two different ways.” “huh?” I mumble. “well first the rogues and the black rose are two different packs.”
Looking at her confused something is wrong with what she just said. Shaking my head “I know what you are saying is right but I have this strong feeling it’s wrong at the same time.”
She looks at me like I have lost my mind. “let's see if a memory recovery potion will work?” she starts pulling things off the shelves and placing them on her work surface. The room fills with strong smells that have my stomach turning. “you might want to sit by the window your sense of smell is gonna be put to the test.” She off handle says as she turns the lid on a jar. A sour rotten scent starts to slip out as she removes the lid. My stomach starts rolling and twisting trying to climb up and out of me through my throat. Rushing to the window I throw it open sucking in clean air as fast as I can. Once my body stopped trying to turn itself inside out I glance over and see that she was not effected by the smell. “what?” I stammer out pointing. “witch's urine aged three hundred years.” She strings. “only those with very sensitive sniffers are affected by the scent.”
