Chapter 70

After a while, if the alpha and Michael went back and forth over what I would get for keeping my mouth shut. Watching the alpha act like not an alpha just a man joking around with a close friend. It was like I could see the bond between the two. To say I was a bit jealous would not be a false statement. Why? It’s a relationship I had with my father and brothers. A closeness that only family has. Turning away from them to wipe the tears I know are forming in my eyes.

Finishing my coffee Michael stands up stretching. “well kid let’s get going the warden will be awake soon demanding cuddles rubs or cinnybonnies. And trust me with a pregnant she-wolf you don’t want to take your time delivering what she wants.” “I thought you were the big scary wild wolf? What happened?” the alpha mocks him. A loud growl that felt like it came from the center of the earth shaking the ground under my feet. I could feel the wildness of the growl and know this is not a man to be pushed.

Laughing slapping Michael's shoulder the alpha almost in tears “there's my big scary wild man.” “oh go sit on Popsicle!” Michael huffs pushing the alpha's hand off his shoulder. Gasping at the act. Not even my brother would hit my father unless in training. The book to look at me and bust out laughing. “look you frightened the future Lune. Guess your reputation is safe still. But just wait that pup comes and both you and Jaz are gonna be knocked down a peg or two. I’m almost afraid of the pup you two made.” “really you're worried about my pup when your gonna be an old crusty grandpa soon. Get off my grass. Or whatever old men say”

I couldn’t stop the laugh from bursting from me. To see such an open relationship with a pack member a relationship I thought was only in our small pack. My father treated every member of the pack like family. But he was more the father type whereas this alpha still seems to have a young heart. The relationship he has with Michael is more friends without titles. And so far this alpha seems the type to be that way with everyone. I know I have not seen him interact with every wolf in his large pack. But the ones I have seen he talks to them the way they talk to him. It’s almost like titles are an afterthought here.

“Ready kid” scuffing at that then covering my mouth and shaking my head. “was that a scuff?” his playfulness was now gone shaking my head unable to say anything. An evil grin spreads on his face. “I was looking for an excuse to make you run downstairs. No elevator this morning let’s go.” Oh shit, I’m up heading for the door. “shoes don’t forget to pick him up shoes” the alpha hollers at our backs. Making it to the door first I stop out in the hall. “let's go kid” “uh I don’t know where the stairs are sir.” “to the left. The stairs are always across from the elevator. The closet is a few floors down. The going down won’t be as bad as the coming back up later.” He’s punishing me for something.

I'm out of breath by the time we reach the closet. Turns out the pack closet is like a giant thrift store but everything is free. “so pack members tend to buy extra well everything most of this is from parents of fast-growing pups. Or the before-shift wardrobe. As you know you need bigger clothes after your first shift. Why waste clothes and money when someone else could use them? The shoes are in the back. Don’t buy workout shoes good chance there are some here if so use them before buying new.” He explains. This system seems beneficial for every pack member. But it’s the first I have heard about something like this.

“why? I mean it seems beneficial for everyone especially those who may struggle a little for what they do have?” “ That's why? It’s no secret, not every wolf has the same funds in the bank. And the alpha family here hated waste many many maybe from the start when they didn’t have anything the idea of sharing what each one had freely helped build the pack and Samuels corporation.” He shrugs.

Finding a pair of running shoes that fit perfectly this jerk makes me run down six flights of stairs to the gym. Huffing panting struggling to breathe by the time we get down there. Handing a bottle of water. “ now that we are warmed up drop and give me 20. I promise not to heavy right away. Let’s build up a core then work on building to your wolf’s strength once he’s comfortable enough to stop hiding. I get it it’s hard after a fucked up thing to not want to hide. But you have a choice to stay hidden and be a prisoner of the abuse. Or look at what they did say “fuck you.” And use that anger and hurt to build yourself up so no one can use you again. So you hiding or fighting?”
Snarling I straighten up “I refuse to be that again. I will not be a weakness to myself to the alpha, my mate, this pack. I will not let my family’s death go. They have to pay for what they did the lives they ruined.” A deep growl leaves my throat the earth shivered. Gasping I look around to find nothing. “that my boy was you starting to fight back? Fighting means your living to see tomorrow.” No sooner had he finished did the door fly open slamming against the wall. Ducking my head and flinching I see Michael do the same. Looking over I see a she-wolf red in anger. “that’s it I give up. Talk to your sister. She’s been fawning over me all morning waiting for max and his mate to wake up. Something about choosing to get lucky over a family dinner and have I eaten today. She’s a very pushy auntie and I’m not even showing yet.” A large weight is sailing across the room.

Looking for an escape when he grabs my arm “nope I have to deal with her so do you. You’re the future Lune do something Luney.” He shakes my shoulder giving him a look -like- when she gasps. “oh dear I’m sorry I didn’t. I didn’t think you’d be on time. I’m sorry I swear I’m not so crazy pants. Hormones you know.” She smiles sweetly at me.

Maybe I don’t want a mate.
