Chapter 35

Johnathan pov

In the two months, Will has been in a coma the attacks on the pack have increased. I don’t know what I am doing and I don’t know how to fix this mess. Will is the alpha born and bred to be the leader of the pack. His blood is the root of this pack. I have had the same training he has had through the years for the off chance I had to step in and run the pack. My line is just as rooted in the pack as wills. Our families started the pack a long time ago. Best friends from the start. Both were born from alpha and beta lines. Wills great something grandfather was second born to the alpha his mate daughter of a beta. My great something grandfather was a second son third born to the beta his mate only daughter of an alpha. They loved the cold mountain pack but felt they needed to be on their start their pack. So with the blessing of their families and pack, they set off to the west looking for the place that called them. Since then our families have run this pack Kyle's and Wade's families joining not long after the same story with them. The elders say it was the goddess nudging them along.

I am a great beta and would be a good alpha of a smaller weaker lesser pack. This pack needs the alpha that was made to be the alpha of this pack. Our blood sings our strength. As far back as the pack can remember the alpha and beta have always been mated to alpha or beta-born mates. So when amber tells me she was delta born I ask if she is sure and if we could test her blood. Not that I don’t believe her or I am that full of myself but six generations of mating make it hard to believe otherwise. To prove my point to her I tell her that Allison's mother was alpha Derick's twin sister. Making her alpha born. Most packs pass to the oldest male, not the oldest pup. It's a rule William was working on fixing. We all had agreed that Wade's mother was a better delta than her mate ended up being. Wade's father was a warrior also Kyle's mothers' boyfriend so Kyle's father didn’t so much like the guy and working with him had not been smooth. We all watched that train wreck growing up. Can't imagine what it was like before we could remember and before we were even made. So with that in mind and knowing the gamma and delta mates can be any rank or nonrank members of any pack. So they may not have any knowledge about running a pack. Will wanted the kids that grow up learning to run the pack and lead the pack to keep that title. And firstborn is the heir male or female. Will wanted to be able to pass the pack to his first pup, not his first male pup.

We are the strongest pack for a reason. And that reason is the Samuels bloodline I have been telling him every day and after every attack. Every time I learn of another missing pup. We need him to come back to us and help find out who is behind all these attacks and we need him to stop them. I am a strong beta strongest. For the last week, I have had amber, Allison, and Will down in the lower levels of the house. New pack houses use the lower levels as jails or dungeons. ours though is part of the original house. When the packhouse was built it was built down like a den not up like humans like. It's easier to guard our loved ones this way.

After another battle with wolves who seem to just come to fight and wear us down now. I storm down to the bottom floor. Every wolf I pass is jumping to get out of my way. Throwing doors open as I go. Finally making it to the room Will is in. I take a breath and enter “I don’t fucking care what you have to fucking do to wake him the fuck up but do it and do it now before we lose the pack.” dammit I meant to be calm about this. Both she-wolves stare at me wide-eyed. “I don’t know what to do I have begged him I have told him I am sorry I don’t know what else to do I am sorry maybe if I leave he will wake up,” Allison says and I growl he's like this because she tried leaving “have you thought of accepting him?” amber asks shocking us all. My little mate always thinking. Looking at Allison I raise a brow at her. “he wouldn't want me I have told you that before.” ‘how do you know did you ask him?” I seethed out. “do you know how broken he was when he lost his first mate? No well, let me tell you I thought he was gonna jump off a deep end. Took everything to pull him back from the edge he thought he did something to deserve this. Do you think he deserved it?” staring at her waiting for her to answer when she shakes her head I continue. “you're right he didn’t. two years he waited for a chance to have a second chance mate. Knowing it was not a sure thing he still waited and prayed. Do you know what happened he found a half-dead second chance mate. Do you know what that had to feel like to him?” I sneer at her she shakes her head again. “so do you think that because someone forced you to do things you didn’t want to do or because your brother did things you had no control over he would throw you away from the one thing he has been praying for the one thing he has held out hope for?” I am screaming at her now. Tears are running down her and amber’s faces this is the first time amber has seen me this upset or even heard me talk like this or about this. “I didn’t know,” she says “you didn’t give him a chance” “he pushed me away when we got here what was I supposed to think?” “and you pushed him away there what he suppose to think?” we both glared at each other

“stop” a horse voice calls out
