Chapter 36

The drive was quiet for the most part each of us going through our part in our heads. Looking around I know that they all have been working just as hard as I had on this plan. But the nagging feeling ambrose was up to something had me asking him for the oh nine millionth time “bag? What do you need a bag for? What is in the bag?” his only reply is the same as it has been for the last two and a half hours “you will see?” if I had not known this man my whole life and know for a fact he is older than my great grandfather. I would think he was the twenty-three he looks. Kavin rolls his eyes. The whole time Kavin has been on his phone texting and making odd faces as he texts. “who are you talking to?” hunter asks shrugging his shoulder he says ‘tali” tali is the daughter of a close friend of Kevin's parents. When he died they took his daughter in so they have been raised as siblings. They had been raised close, to begin with. Tali’s father was a warrior close to my father and his team Evan, I believe his name was. Kavin and tali are a few years apart and since our parent's departer, she has been pushing for Kavin to let her leave the pack to search for her mate.

At an hour out from the winter's castle, we stop for a quick grouping. We also wanted to eat a good meal as we all had a feeling we wouldn't be staying for dinner. Opening the back of the SUV there is a huge picnic packed for us. The kitchen outdid itself. There are several types of sandwiches fried chicken and different types of salads. In the back, there is a container with one of those keep it warm covers. Opening it the scent of bourbon peaches fills the air. Groans and mmmms are spreading as the scent flows. Lifting the lid I see the doughy goodness. One of my favorite desserts. A sweet dough rolled like cinnamon rolls but with bourbon glazed peaches. With vanilla ice cream on the side. A small territorial growl leaves my throat. Chuckles are heard throughout our group. “you would think years of this dessert you would learn to share.” ty slaps my shoulder.

Going over our plans while we eat. True to ourselves eating dessert first. Ambrose passed around small brown bottles to each of us. Two of the warriors having never been around ambrose just stare at the bottles. The rest of us just open them and drink. Horror is painted all over their faces as we drink what was in the bottles. The sweet and burnt taste coats my tongue. The thick liquid slides down my throat making me cough as it makes its way down leaving a warm trail in its wake. Ambrose disappears again while the few warriors who have not spent much time with ambrose just stare at the bottles “how do you know it's safe?” one asks “because I can't hurt anyone in the black rose pack.” ambrose voice startles him. Looking around sheepishly his cheeks redden in empressement. “to harm a member of this pack is to cause my death. And I like living.” the young warrior is turning the bottle over in his hand. ‘what's it for?” I shrug as does everyone else who drank it. If I had been thinking about this reaction I would have had my camera out. His face was of pure terror. “and you just drank it?” laughing ambrose puts him out of his misery. “its a magic blocker potion. We are heading into the second biggest magic-using beings. Witches and fae are the top users. Unlike other wolves, the winter wolves have a special blessing or gift. But all that's known is rumors so it's best if we can keep a level head. don’t you think?” raising a brow looking at the young warrior. Gulping he nods and opens his bottle slowly drinking it. We all had to learn the hard way to just shoot it back fast or it's hard to drink. And you have to drink it all.

The other warrior seeing his face just shoots the liquid fast. It took the warrior a good five minutes to drink the small bottle full. Once the last drop is down ambrose slaps me in the shoulder doing the same to everyone. The young warriors saw him coming gauging our reactions. There's a slight sting but goes away pretty fast. Coming to the young wolf ambrose says “it's a scent alerting spell. You will still smell like William is the alpha. When Philip is ready he will smack his arm in the same spot breaking the spell.” he nods and bares his shoulder. Again ambrose poofs and is back. “are you misting from here to the SUV that's twenty feet away?” I ask shaking his head. “no to my house. The bag is airing out the magic trail. I couldn’t just mist and grab the bag closer due to the traces of magic that would be on it. The longer it rests and no magic is used near it the traces will leave it.” as he hands out rings. Sliding it on my thumb it heats but stays a ring. A light glow as it heats to a burning. the burn not lasting more than a second before its gone. “these block your magic if you have any. The hotter the ring the more magic you have. If it glows the brighter the stronger your magic is. These rings will not work for anyone else now. They are spelled to cloak your magic and only yours. Only you know if it is a cloak or not.”

I wasn’t surprised to know I had magic in my blood and it is strong. My bloodline is blessed by the goddess. Only having alpha-born mates makes our bloodline strong and pure magic. Every supernatural has magic in one way or another. Turning into a wolf is magic. Just because I don’t have the ability to wield magic I am still magic.
