Philip pov
“did the crazy old bat just kidnap Eris?” Tyler exclaimed looking around the room. I can't blame his confusion as I am so lost as to what just happened. Michelle and Reena still sitting around as if nothing happened. It was Kavin that replied. “I don’t know if it's kidnapping when he said she would be back the morning of the party. And he said he wanted to train her. For what who knows he's crazy but he has always had the pack's best interest hasn’t he?” with a nod we all just sink into chairs to think over things. It was then that I got a link for one of the wolves on patrol.
“alpha we have an issue? You might want to see this” “what is it?” “Bodies” cutting the link I jump up rushing from the room the rest following me. Leaving the house I shift not caring about my clothes I can buy more if I need to. Running full speed to the southwestern border I expected to smell decay or death but nothing. Even when I came to the area where wolves had gathered. Shifting back one of the warriors tossed me shorts as I came to stand next to them. There laying on the ground were four bodies one male and three female. The male looks about twenty-ish the women look to be in their mid-forties. Still young but parts of them look worn and broken. Their skin is covered in scars and even in death, I can see the bruises. The females sport several stretch marks on the abdomen telling they had at least one pup.
Kneeling to look them over as much as I can without touching them I want the medical team to go over them and document everything. I noticed on one of the female's arms the number 12. it's a black puffed-out mark. It's old and healed so nothing new. I link to have a team come out here with a van to bring them to the clinic. “search the area for anything I want to know how they got here who brought them and why we didn’t hear a thing.” as I finish I get a link that another one of the marked wolves has gone to labor. Today is one for the books. Linking Ty “Ty I have to get to the clinic come to the border and deal with this mess here fucking Ambrose broke a gate or something and shit are hitting the fan.” stripping tossing the shorts back to the wolf. I shift and hall ass to the clinic.
Stopping at the tree line to shift and put shorts on I head to the clinic. Other than the barns the clinic is the only building above ground. Well, parts anyways. The doctors demanded natural light for pups and birthing of pups. And any short-term ouchies that happen on the ground floor. Walking in I see Annie one of the nurses aware of the problems and heartbreak this causes as she was the first to give birth to a pup that was taken. She had twins a female and a male the female along with all the other pups that have been marked to the rogue king vanish as soon as their heads break through and they take that first small breath then poof gone in black smoke. It's been 18 years since this deal you would think the taking of pups would have been done but no.
So what has happened about ten babies have been taken? The mark in a couple of families I have assumed moved from the mother to the child or stayed on the mother for longer. One female lost two pups at different times. Her second born and fifth born. At this point, I am not sure who is marked and who isn't. I will have to ask Ambrose when he comes back. He better has Eris back before the party or he's gonna be sorry. That girl has been planning this party for two years. And these last two weeks she has been a slave driver getting the ballroom ready for the party. She invited every alpha and alpha heir within the borders of this land mass. I am sure she would have sent invites to all the packs out there if I had let her. But I dought we need to cross oceans to find her mate. I have already thrown a curve ball at her sending Enoy and Kaleb north before the party. I know Eris invited them and I had thought they would make the trip down as they don’t often leave unless for a good reason. The snowpack and the black rose had a good relationship. They buy and sell to our fishing company up north. We have always given them a good deal as they live so far north and stay out of fights. They are the keepers of the north. Just because non of us are willing to live that far north full time. They are secretive as well we only have vague directions to get there and I am sure Enoy had seen that now and is not happy.
Making it to the room I see a young male and female now this is the odd part the male is on the list of marked but his mate is not. And this is the first of the marked males to have a pup with a mate. Being a doctor I have taken every one of these wolves into my care. I don’t even put scrubs on as I enter the room. I see the looks of panic on their faces. “Henry it's been a while how are things?” I ask him trying to calm him down. He was one of the originally marked males. I can see the stress as his mate Lilly screams as a contraction takes over.
Two hours of pushing and the pup is born and in my arms. Looking her over I see the glowing mark on the back of her neck. Looking at the nurse I nod and she takes the file and slips a green bookmark in the file. This lets the staff member imputing the chart to add this baby girl to the list of marked. Looking at the relieved and worried faces of the new parents.
