Chapter 22
She let me put her down long enough to put on some shorts. Her legs are not able to hold her up. The rags she had on barely covered her broken and bruised body. Before I picked her back up I slipped a long tee over her head. She is still crying hard into my chest. Her scent is so weak telling me she is close to losing her fight. “please hang on for me little one.” I whisper in her ear kissing her neck just below her ear. A little moan comes from deep in her throat. She gasps covering her mouth. I want to tell her she doesn't need to do that but now is not the time. I can feel the raised bumps on her back. She's a wolf so for her to have these two things could have happened either it was done by silver or her wolf couldn’t heal her. Looking down at her if she's this bad as her human self what would her wolf look like? Could she even shift right now? I can still smell her wolf but like her it's weak.
I can feel my wolf pushing me to mark her but I worry it would do her in if I did with her being so weak. Feeling her relax I look down to see she has fallen asleep. Looking to my left “alpha Derick do you know who she is?” shaking his head “no never seen her before but she does look like my sister a little. But that can't be my sister disappeared 19 years ago with her mate and son. They went on a camping trip and were never seen again. We searched where they said they were going. Found her car and their campsite but no scents were found.” he tells me looking at her. Looking between them I can see some similarities but not enough to say they are related.
“ill have them run a test when we get back and will see if she has any relatives in the database. If so I will give them a call so they can come care for her.” he tells me causing me to growl “no” “I’m sorry alpha what?” “she will stay with me I will take care of her. Finding family I agree but she's mine and I will keep her with me where I know she's safe!” I demand. Alpha Derick looks at me for a second then nods “I should have figured it out with how she is clinging to you. I apologize.” I nod knowing that I would have offered the same in his shoes. “sorry alpha I just can't think of her being out of my sight right now.” “Derick is fine to think we can call each other friends at this point. No need to apologize I would have done the same. If nothing else we know she will be in good hands from here on out.” “my questions right now are who did this? And what did she mean by she tried?” nodding he says nothing more.
Getting to the pack a team of doctors and nurses are waiting. “thank you. Soon as she has seen the doctor let's meet and go over what everyone found?” I ask Derick “sounds like a plan. ill go have the kitchen make up some broth for her. don’t look like solids will be in her diet right away.” “thank you again. What they say about the winters is true. You all have hearts of gold.” he laughs at me and wonders off.
Following the medical team to the clinic, I hold her close. They say nothing as they lead me to a room. Pushing a cart in front of us into the room. “please lay her on the bed alpha.” the nurse says. Looking at her name tag “be careful with her please Judy.” as I lay her down on the bed. Pulling a blanket over her. Her skin is almost as white as the sheets. “ I want every test you can think of ran,” I demand knowing I didn’t need to say it but not being able to stop.
While the nurse is trying to put an iv in the doctor comes in to look her over. “alpha I’m Dr. Knight I’m here to look over our guest and see how I can help her. Do you happen to know her name?” he asks me. “I do not know doctor. She has not said much as of right now. But I want everything done to save her. I need her doc please save her.” I can hear the pleading in my voice and I don’t care. If I lose her I don’t think I could serve this time. This tiny she-wolf holds my life in her hands right now. I have not stopped touching her in any way since I found her. Right now I’m holding her hand feeling the little tingles praying for them to get stronger.
Holding myself in check as the doctor touches her. I know it's for her health but she's hurt and my instinct is to protect her. Rubbing my thumb over her hand wishing for her to open her eyes again and talk to me. I have so many questions. The nurse lets out a breath of relief. Looking over I see she finally got the iv in. She starts a bag of fluid right away there is no question that she is dehydrated. The nurse uses the iv port to draw some blood. I have asked for every test so they ask me to leave for the more female invasive procedures. I can hear the nurse gasp and I just about bust back through the door. If the alpha had not come upon me at the same time. he grabbed my arm “William please let them do their job. I know it's hard. I promise she's in good hands.” dropping into one of the chairs in the hall I let out a breath in defeat. “the others will be here soon I asked for a room close by to have a meeting in. I didn’t think you would want to leave and be that far from her.” “thank you”
