Chapter 103
“don’t mind him young winters. Young lord Hades has a flare for the dramatic. As most fire demons are. He will follow the rules he set out for you. This I promise.” The red-horned monster says in the surfer guy's voice. “don’t worry princess I’ll keep it cool in here.” Alpha snow winks at me.
Slowly getting up from the ground after jumping back and tripping on the chair. Johnny has yet to take his eyes off alpha snow. “why are you staring at him?” I link “is he really a child of the cold?” He links back confused I look over at him and shrug. “Why?” I ask “my mother’s sister disappeared when they were in their teens a note was left saying she was seeking the children of the cold.”
“Alpha snow are you a child of cold? And what is a child of cold?” I ask slowly. Righting my chair I slowly sit back down reaching for the coffee. “I am. Children of the cold are the protectors of the north. Seekers of truth. No one can lie to me. Ever.” He smirks crossing his arms over his chest. Silver swirl patterns shimmer in the light going up his arms.
“do you know Candice wild?” johnny rushes out. “I do not though the pack is still rebuilding after Loki and the banished twins did. My mother or Hades' father might know. Why?” tilting his head and staring at johnny like he can see his soul. “she's my aunt. She ran away in her late teens to seek out the children of the cold. No o es heard from her since.” They all look deep in thought for a moment before their eyes all glazed over.
“I remember that name. She never made it to the north. She was a maid at the crimson river years back. Challenged a visiting Luna and lost. As far as I remember she never mated. I am saddened by your loss.” The monster soothes out. A sweet scent falls over the room calming me.
“as much as I am enjoying this interaction I really don’t have the time to just chit-chat. Shall we talk about what brings us here?” Hades spits out. stirring his finger in his coffee. Steam slowly starts to rise from his mug.
“I want this feud to end. It started long before we were born why to continue.” I start. “what is your offer?” Hades counters. Confused I just stare at him. When he didn’t offer more I swallowed and asked. “what do you mean what is my offer? We stop fighting. Maybe try and bond as if we are family. Would it not be better for everyone if we were getting along?” I ask. He just laughs and slaps his hand on the table. “that’s rich. You want us all to just forget your family enslaved us all for years?”
“What are you talking about?” I ask confused. Tilting his head looking at me oddly. “give me your hand.” He demands “why?” I glare back. “he wants to know if you're telling the truth mutt. The sooner he reads you the sooner this can finish and we all go back to our borders.” The girl spits out. Everything about this tiny girl screams danger how I didn’t see it before is odd. Hades holds his hand out waiting. Rolling my eyes I place my hand in his.
I don’t know what I was expecting maybe cold hands for a cold wolf but no his hand was like a living fire. A burn rushes up my arm flowing over me. As fast as it started it fades. “I see your family secrets have been kept from you. How can we fix something if you don’t know what needs to be fixed.” Raising his brow looking me over. His eyes snap to y father’s “why has she been kept in the dark Lune?” My father looks around confused. “I’m sorry alpha Hades but I have no clue what you mean. I have made everything within the offices of both Apollo and Eos. Anything before being chosen as Eos mate and joining the Winters pack I have no clue.”
Again he holds his hand out my father looks around and I nod for him to do it. Placing his hand in Hades. “oh you poor soul. I see the winters messed with you as well. It’s good to know you are now with your fated.” He almost looks bothered by something.
“Can we stop the back and forth and maybe just be civil,” I ask.
Standing he walks over to the big plate window overseeing the main street. “I wish it were that simple. But I am afraid things must be righted. My family alone has suffered a great deal at the hands of yours. Years of enslavement, the death of hundreds of cattle. Not to mention what was taken from my grandmother. Tell me do you know what was stolen from my family?” his hands locked together behind his back as he stares out the window.
“Yes” I whisper
“tell me what was stolen?”
“Her birthright,” I say squaring my shoulder. He remained silent. Well since you mentioned it yes that was stolen as well. But not what I am talking about.” The room started to feel warmer and the others started to stand and back away from the table.
“What else could have been stolen? She was mated to the alpha and left the pack. When she left something broke in the pack so maybe I should be asking what was stolen from us.” I growl standing up. Fighting the urge to submit to him. The hissing of taking of breath was the only sound in the room.
Turning he looks at me and then breaks into a side-splitting laugh. “if nothing else cousin you did give me a good laugh today. I know you saw the memories. I know you know what happened.” “and if it had not played out this way you wouldn’t be here.” My father growls shooting up from his chair. A blur of black smoke flies In front of me and past me taking my father with it.
His head hits the wall hard before a very pissed-off Ravenana has him pinned by the neck. “princess let the boy go. He was not raised in a pack so manners are not his strong suit.” The red dude said with a wave of his hand. I was already in a defensive position growling at johnny by my side. I have had enough.
A loud earth-shaking growl fills the room a thin coat of frost covers everything. Hades stumbled forward a step his hand smacking against the wall. “that is enough we came here for you two to talk not a pissing match. I would like to get home to my pregnant mare Sooner rather than later.” Looking over his eyes have bled to white and a wind is whipping around him. “okay okay teddy drops the cold chill “ Hades huffs.
