Chapter 85
I should have smelled that they were wolves when Renee approach me., But all I could smell was human. “Hi, there handsome. I haven’t seen you around here before.” Her nasally voice fills my ears. Looking at the dark-haired girl I shook my head. “Naw but I don’t come to town often. You are new though.” That was my short reply. Smiling at the girl I walked off meeting back up with Fallen. I went for snacks she went for supper. Tomorrow we will spend the day shopping. I lost the fight. Not that we don’t need a little of this or a lot of that back at the pack I just didn’t want to spend a whole day being a bag carrier. But a deal is a deal. If we end up leaving to travel with the other packs I get the first pick of where we go. So far neither of us has smelled anything to write home about.
We spend the whole weekend just being eighteen years olds. Movies snacks yes shopping. Too fast it was time to head home. Both are a little sad not finding out mates but also a little excited we actually are leaving the north. For a short time most likely but wow we get to see something other than white for a while. I bought a map of the world's lands. Focusing mostly on this land mass. I would rather not cross any big bodies of water, I get seasick.
Ya, I’m really winning as the alpha's son. Thank goodness I’m third born a lot of hell has to happen for me to be in charge. Jackson and Charlie got all the alpha-like qualities. I wouldn’t say I didn’t get anything. I mean I am alpha born so I’m broad and packed with dense muscles. I look weaker than I am. My wolf is smaller than most closer to the size of my mother’s fox. But like all of us, my coat is so pure white it glows in the light. Fallen is a mind fuck. She's teenie tiny pixie-like. Long white blonde hair. Her almost white eyes gave her a glow about her. But when she shifts she’s a giant polar bear with almost white eyes. The ends of her fur seem to glow silver in any light.
Packing the sled with everything we were tasked to buy and some because we wanted to buy. We were so confident we were safe that we never thought to keep an eye out for danger or being followed. It would be two days before those mistakes came to haunt us.
First, my parents fell ill. So we had to call my brothers and Matt back from the sea. With our parents under the weather, it will be up to Jacks and Matt to run the pack while they are sick. I tend to be more like my mother so I head to the kitchen to help make stew and treats to raise morale.
The day of the attack started like any other day. Maybe if we had been exposed to magic more we would have felt and understood the ward that was around our small village-style pack cabins. This once was a small fishing village. The humans that settled here gave up after a few years of catching nothing. Passing through was a small band of arctic wolves looking for a place to settle. That was when master Ambrose showed up on the shore. They thought he was dead and refused to leave him to the elements.
He then in return blessed this village to be a pack territory. He also helped the wolves create the snowpack for all arctic races. You live longer when you're not alone. Since then the pack has run smoothly. We have exclusive fishing rights and contracts with Samuels Corp. They supply the world with arctic fish and we’ll anything else you can think of. They pay us well, so we do the fishing.
Worried about my parents I help the cooks make healing stews and ciders. A task I never finished. In a blink, it felt like a silver collar was wrapped around my neck cutting me off from my wolf. All my strength drained out of me. Looking up I notice I was not alone. Fallen burst through the door. “I think we are under attack, but I can’t figure out from where. Father told me to find you and head to the safe room. He sent my brother with all the pups and women who can’t fight. They are supposed to gather the alpha and Luna and meet us there.” She rushes and grabs a bag shoving things in. Helping the cooks shut the stoves off. Don’t want to get in a fight just to watch the pack homes burn down.
Stepping out of the cabin my breath is taken from me as I’m hit in the back of the head. I hear Fallen's screams as I fall to the ground. The scent of apples and iron fills my nose. Trying to hold back my tears as I know granny Suki has been hurt to the point of bleeding and there is nothing I can do.
Black leather heeled boots and a pair of black leather biker boots come to view. “this is the pet you want Ren? He looks weak.” “but he’s pretty ain’t he?” her whining voice fills the air. “don’t touch him” fallen growls. I see her hands starting to shift. Linking her I beg her to not do anything. “well well well what do we have here?” a deep velvety voice comes from somewhere. A tall dark haired silver eyes guy squats down pushing Fallen's hair from her face. “well I can’t say I’ve ever met a bear before. Now tell me sweetly what would it cost to keep you as my pet.” “I’m not a fucking pet you pervert.” She spits out. The. I’m choking as all the air is pulled from my lungs. “tell me is his life worth doing as you are told? I have seen how close you are?” shaking my head but stopping as rogues start shoving the pack out in the snow.
They start locking collars around their necks and they shift. The collars are attached to leashes. I can see the anger in their eyes but the fight is gone. Renee knees down. “don’t worry pet we will take good care of you.” As she snaps a collar on me. I had expected to shift like everyone else but the opposite happened. My wolf was locked away.
A could of rogues yanked Fallen's father her brother and his pregnant mare out to the center of the courtyard. As another could drag my parents and brothers to the center as well. They all have collars on. “Jared snow hand the pack over to me and you might live.” The dark-haired dark-eyed male said as he places a hand on Renee’s waist. Is that her mate? “you heard my brother old man” brother but he’s touching her in an oh please just say they are close.
“Pet you don’t need to see this,” he says right before he kicks me in the head.
