“When you found out the truth about who your mate was why did you run away?” I ask wanting to get to the bottom of the issue. She just shrugs. “if the winters are so open about sex why are you still a virgin?” snapping her eyes at me glaring. Her glare is so full of anger and something dangerous gulping I look back at the road and keep my mouth shut for a while. “okay look I’m sorry it's just confusing. I mean I was at the castle for four years I saw the number of she-wolves following your brother and his beta around.” she sighs glancing over she shrugs “I didn’t know. I still don’t know what was real and what was I have no idea. I believed for three years Jacob was my mate and that I had to stay away because of his training. Do you know what's sick huh?” she seethes out anger rising in her “he would kiss me at the family events and act like my mate then at the end of the night he went to my brother's room. Did you know that? No, you didn’t neither do I? so tell me mister beta what would you have done if you found out your whole life was a lie? Huh?” the anger so thick in the air I am almost choking.
Rolling down my window I stay quiet for a while thinking over what she said. “you know princess Phil is nothing like that right. Sure he has had some encounters with humans rarely a she-wolf but nothing since he laid eyes on you.” her shoulder drops as she lets out a deep breath like she had been holding it. “you're just saying that cause your his beta.” she says in defeat. “no I am sorry to burst your bubble but I don’t make a habit of lying.” I tell her. Reaching behind the seat pulling the bag of snacks. “eat your wolf is weak.” handing her a sandwich. “what?” she whispers glancing over she's staring at me with tears in her eyes. “your wolf she weak you need to eat. “do you know about Phil's mother?” I ask knowing most do not know but this information may be helpful for her to hear. Glancing over she shakes her head. “so maybe I should start at the beginning Phil's father lost his first mate in the same second he found her.” I can hear them gasp from her. I keep going “it was two years after that he found his second chance mate. Luna Allison.” my voice breaks a little at the story. My mother was friends with Luna Allison I heard all the stories about the Luna and the connection she had with my mother. “the Luna was on death's door when alpha William found her. He had gone there looking clues about the death of his sister or find his other sister who was never found.” looking over at the quiet Artemis.
“The Luna rejected the alpha and he was going to let her do it. Just accept it do you know why?” she shakes her head “because of everything she went through he would never force her to be with him. Do you know what would have happened to the alpha?” she shakes her head again staying quite. “his wolf would have died and then he would have. Though my family would step in and become the alpha bloodline it would weaken us. Do you know what it would mean for you to reject him?” she whispers “what?” “his wolf would die along with him. I did some research on your family. If a winter rejects a mate and they accept it breaking the bond the mate dies.” “WHAT?” she screams. The volume startling me I jerk the wheel causing us to go off the road a little throwing dust in the air behind us. “I figured you didn’t know. Winters don’t get second chance mates they are mated to one or two mates at one time. Now the kicker is if your mate rejects you nothing happens but if you reject your mate they die. Same for your brother. So if it's true Jacob would have to reject your brother first or he will or would die. Something to do with a pact they made with the gods and goddesses. Now what you don’t know is the Samuels and blacks are also goddesses blessed along with our pack. There has been only the Samuels and blacks as alpha and beta since the start. Every year we honor the goddess the strong or blessing. Blood oaths made with our alpha are as good as an oath to the goddess.” I shrug letting her think about what I have said before I finish telling her about the Luna.
“When Phil was just a month old her brother an agent for the rogue king broke into the pack house with the help of a witch. They injected them both with drugs to cause pain fertility and loss of control. The Luna was still recovering from having Phil. She had been poisoned to abort Phil a month before her due date. Causing a lot of damage. The poison blocked her wolf so she couldn’t heal. The drugs cause the alpha to do unspeakable things to her. Putting her in a coma for three days. He had himself locked up ready to take his punishment. The Luna woke the day before alpha William set to have himself executed. The Luna for her first order as Luna demanded they all listen and hear what she had to say. She explained the drugs and that the alpha could not control himself even if he had been there mentally. It was then they found out she was not pregnant again. Samuels's second pregnancy is always twins and this would be no different. They soon found out she could end the pregnancy and die or have them and die. They did the selfish thing and had the pups wanting that extra time with each other before he lost the love of his life.
