Chapter 101

"She has most likely left Aurora City already. Once the police have a lead, we'll head out immediately," Nathan said, standing up to get ready.

As the head of a business empire, Nathan's travels had to be pre-arranged; he couldn't just leave on a whim.

"Nathan, how are you so sure she's left Aurora City?" Nick asked, following closely behind.

"If you had kidnapped her, would you keep her in Aurora City?" Nathan retorted.

"True. The farther away, the better," Nick realized.

Half an hour later, the police reported that Demi's vehicle had exited the highway and she had switched cars. High-definition surveillance clearly captured her image, and it was confirmed to be her.

Further tracking revealed her presence at a service area. She had stopped at a gas station and deliberately looked at the camera for several seconds.

"Let's go," Nathan ordered succinctly.

The Kennedy Family's security team quickly assembled, totaling ten people, divided into three SUVs, ready to depart. Nathan insisted on driving the stretched Range Rover himself.

Nick tried to get in the car but was stopped by Nathan. "You stay."

Nick was anxious. "It's my wife and child in danger, and you won't let me go? What kind of nonsense is this?"

Nathan didn't intend to explain, but Nick clung to the car door. "I have to go."

Nathan frowned and insisted, "You stay and back me up."

"You want me to stay here and worry while you go find them?" Nick protested.

"One goes, one provides backup," Nathan said.

"Then I'll go; you back me up," Nick argued.

"Do you know where to track them?" Nathan countered.

Nick was stunned; he had no idea.

Although the police provided a direction, the route was complex and unpredictable, with possible car switches. How should they proceed?

"Do you know?" Nick asked, puzzled.

"Of course," Nathan said confidently.

"Once you track them, do you know what to do?" Nathan continued to ask.

"Obviously, call the police," Nick blurted out.

"If she could call the police, she would have. Ryan and Sophie aren't with her; the kidnappers are using them as leverage. She can't involve the cops. So, if going to the police isn't an option, what's your plan?" Nathan asked again.

Nick shook his head; he hadn't thought of a solution.

"So, with the situation unclear and needing you to adapt on the fly, you're not up for it," Nathan said.

Nick felt indignant but had to admit Nathan's words hit the mark. Despite their similar appearances, their abilities were worlds apart. Nathan had extraordinary poise, quick thinking, and natural leadership; Nick lacked the necessary ruthlessness in critical moments." So what should I do?" Nick asked, unwilling to give up.

"Wait for my updates. Handle any needs from the rear," Nathan instructed.

"Alright, take care," Nick conceded.

Nathan gently patted Nick's shoulder without a word and got into the car. The convoy set off, and Nick watched them leave, feeling a pang of loneliness.

"Mr. Nathan Kennedy, here's a map of that direction. There are three cities to choose from. Take a look," John Williams, the Kennedy Family security chief, said. A former mercenary who could take down ten armed men single-handedly, John was still in top shape despite being over forty.

Nathan took the map and studied it carefully. Only one of the three cities bordered another country, making the target clear.

However, the city had multiple border crossings. Which route should they take?

If they chose wrong, they would only stray further from the truth. Before the police provided concrete clues, Nathan had to make a judgment call. If the police's leads ran dry, they would have to rely on intuition—a risky move.

Nathan frowned again, and John, knowing he was deep in thought, didn't dare interrupt. But Nathan broke the silence. "What's your take on this?"

John was an expert in this field, and his input was invaluable.

"Mr. Nathan Kennedy, are you considering they might flee the country?" John speculated.

"Yes."

"In that case, they're more likely heading to Silvercrest. The border control there is lax, and the border is long, making it easier to escape," John analyzed.

Nathan nodded; this matched his judgment.

"But a long border also means one question: where will they cross?" John added.

Nathan signaled for him to continue.

"I think they're more likely heading to Star Valley. Beyond it lies a dense forest, but there have been recent armed conflicts, making it more dangerous."

"That's the place," Nathan pointed to a spot on the map.

"Why are you so sure, Mr. Nathan Kennedy?" John asked, puzzled.

"The more chaotic the place, the better it is for hiding," Nathan replied calmly.

John pondered for a moment and found the reasoning sound.

After an hour on the road, John had one of his men take over the wheel from Nathan. Understanding that nonstop driving wasn't feasible, Nathan moved to the back seat to get some rest.

At that moment, John's phone rang. It was the officer in charge of the case.

The officer reported a hit-and-run incident near the Star Valley border. A Jeep had hit a sedan and fled the scene.

A witness had captured the suspect vehicle on their phone, and the driver appeared to be a woman. The police speculated it might be Demi.

However, due to the poor angle, the image wasn't clear, and the identification was uncertain.

"It must be her," Nathan said confidently after examining the photo.

"Why are you so sure, Mr. Nathan Kennedy?" John asked again.
