Chapter 71

Sarah said, "Don't you know your own kids? Ryan and Sophie felt super guilty for upsetting you last time when they secretly met Nathan. Now that they know you're unhappy, there's no way they'd go without you. Unless you go with them, they won't feel comfortable. Otherwise, they won't go, no matter what. Do you believe it?"

Caroline went quiet because she knew Sarah was right.

Ryan and Sophie's maturity sometimes showed the tough marks of growing up. Carefree kids aren't sensible because they don't have to deal with life's hardships too early.

Caroline sighed, "But I really don't want to go. If I go, it'll just make both Nathan and me unhappy."

"The grudge between you and Nathan isn't that deep, is it? If he were Ryan and Sophie's dad, there's no need for you two to be so opposed," Sarah suggested.

Caroline shook her head. "No, he looks down on me, and I don't care about his opinion."

Sarah urged, "Why don't you ask the kids what they think? If they want to go, let them go by themselves; if they don't, maybe you need to go with them. After all, you're doing it for Ryan and Sophie, not for Nathan."

Caroline nodded. For Ryan and Sophie, she was willing to put up with Nathan.

As expected, Sarah was right. Ryan and Sophie both refused to see Nathan, afraid they'd upset Caroline.

"But what if your mom is willing to go see Nathan with you?" Sarah asked.

A glimmer of hope flashed in Ryan's and Sophie's eyes, but it quickly faded.

"That's impossible," Sophie shook her head.

Sarah smiled, "Nothing's impossible. Caroline loves you very much. Just like you don't want to make her unhappy, she doesn't want you to be sad. I'll call Caroline now and ask her to take time off early to go see Nathan with you."

The kids' eyes lit up again. "Really?"

Sarah nodded. "Of course, it's true. I never lie to you!"

Inside the Kennedy Corp Tower.

"Mr. Kennedy, the stock price has dropped significantly, and the shareholders are freaking out, asking about your health," Jack reported cautiously.

Nathan squinted slightly. These shareholders were always like this, losing their cool over the smallest fluctuation.

Since Nathan took over Kennedy Corp, the company's subsidiaries had been thriving, and the shareholders had been raking in substantial rewards year after year. Now, with a slight dip in stock prices, they were getting anxious.

Every stock in the world would fluctuate.

"Ignore them," Nathan replied briefly.

"Also, after hearing about your serious illness, the Avaloria royal family sent their condolences, expressing regret that you couldn't attend the banquet and wishing you a speedy recovery," Jack added.

"Reply to them and say I appreciate their concern and am looking forward to future cooperation," Nathan instructed.

Jack nodded. "Got it."

Jack thought to himself, 'Nathan is playing a big game. To have dinner with his kids, Nathan declined the royal party and, to avoid affecting the relationship between the company and the royal family, claimed he was seriously ill, causing the stock price to drop and assets to shrink by billions of dollars. When Ryan and Sophie grow up and learn that Nathan gave up billions of dollars to have dinner with them, how shocked will they be?'

The dinner Nathan had with Ryan and Sophie cost billions of dollars, making it arguably the most expensive dinner in the world.

"Is there anything else?" Nathan asked coldly, noticing Jack's distraction.

Jack said, "Demi's assistant called, saying that after hearing about your illness, Demi wants to bring Ryan and Sophie to see you and is seeking your opinion."

"Demi?" Upon hearing the name, Nathan seemed to smell the faint scent of orange blossoms but immediately felt repulsed. He thought she was indeed meticulous, first using Ryan and Sophie to get his attention, and now that the time was right, she was directly bringing the kids to him.

Everything was going just as Nathan had figured; Demi was definitely a woman with a sharp mind!

"Turn it down," Nathan said.

"Okay," Jack was about to leave.

"Wait," Nathan called him back, "Accept it."

Jack was confused. Did Nathan want the visit or not?

"Should I set up a meeting for tonight?" Jack tried to clarify.

Nathan didn't say anything, just waved his hand to signal Jack to leave.

On the set of "Thunder 2," filming was still in full swing.

After wrapping up a scene, everyone felt exhausted and took a break.

Caroline walked over. "William, I need to take some time off. I want to leave early."

"Are you kidding? We have night scenes tonight. No one can leave before midnight!" William snapped.

"William, keep your voice down. Don't let others hear," Caroline reminded him.

William replied, "I'll speak loudly if I want. So what?"

"If you change your mind later, people will say you're inconsistent," Caroline said softly.

William insisted, "Why would I change my mind? We need to speed up the filming process. If we delay any longer, we won't make the broadcast schedule. No time off tonight!"

"But Mr. Kennedy wants me to meet him immediately. If I don't go, I'm afraid he'll be angry," Caroline sighed.

"What did you say? Mr. Kennedy wants you to meet him? Aren't you at odds with him? Why is he looking for you?" William was incredulous.

Caroline pretended to be shy. "Who knows what he wants? He just said he booked a room at the hotel to discuss the script."

William's heart tightened. Nathan booked a room to discuss the script?

"Really?" William wanted to confirm again.

Caroline shyly lowered her head. "If you don't believe me, you can ask him yourself."

William urged, "Then what are you waiting for? Go quickly, don't keep him waiting!"

Caroline was speechless.

Caroline slowly walked down the stairs, holding a kid in each hand, and saw a luxurious Rolls-Royce parked in front of her.

"It's Nathan's car!" Sophie exclaimed, her eyes lighting up with surprise.

Caroline muttered to herself, 'Sophie's memory is pretty good.'

The car door opened, and the elegant Jack appeared as he bowed, "Ms. Murphy, please."

"Hello, Jack," Sophie greeted Jack confidently, as if they were already familiar.

Jack quickly responded, smiling broadly, "Ms. Sophie Kennedy, Mr. Ryan Kennedy, nice to see you both."

Caroline frowned slightly at Jack's words. "Why do you address them like that?"

Jack maintained his smile without explaining, simply bowing again to invite them in.

When Caroline opened the back door, she was surprised to find that Nathan's car, usually used for formal occasions, had two child safety seats in the back, clearly prepared for Ryan and Sophie. She hadn't expected Nathan to be so attentive to Ryan and Sophie.

The car ride was silent.

Jack was very cautious, initiating no conversation on the road. He understood his task was to pick up Caroline, Ryan, and Sophie, and any extra words were not his place to say, nor did he dare to speak out of turn.

He didn't dare to offend Caroline either. Caroline was about to become Nick's wife, a member of the Kennedy Family. Although Nick's status in the family was slightly lower than Nathan's, as Nathan's twin brother, his influence was not to be underestimated.

Caroline also didn't initiate conversation with Jack. In her impression, Jack was just Nathan's messenger.

Naturally, he was in the same camp as Nathan. How good could someone from Nathan's side have been?

Sophie, usually lively and talkative, saw the adults all serious and silent, so she obediently kept quiet until they reached their destination.

The car stopped at the executive parking lot of the Kennedy Corp Tower, not the hospital.

Jack quickly got out of the car and opened the door for Caroline and the kids, "Please watch your head."

"Aren't we going to the hospital? Why are we here?" Caroline asked, puzzled.
