Chapter 52

Caroline instantly regretted what she said. Normally, she wouldn't act like this; clearly, Sawyer's influence was rubbing off on her!

She kept her head down, avoiding Nathan's gaze. She could just feel how ticked off he must be. With her head still down, she bolted out of the elevator.

Inside, Nathan slightly bowed his head, taking a light sniff of the suit Caroline had brushed against, catching the scent of orange blossom.

That fragrance was like a spell, sticking in Nathan's mind for years, impossible to shake off.

Not being able to forget wasn't the worst part; the real kicker was not knowing why he couldn't forget.

A sense of irritation quietly bubbled up inside him. When Nathan knocked on the door, he pressed the doorbell a bit harder than usual.

"I knew you'd come back. Wait, Nathan?" Sawyer's words trailed off when he saw Nathan's icy expression, and he quickly shut up.

"Who'd come back?" Nathan asked.

"No one, just humming a tune," Sawyer mumbled, feeling super awkward.

Nathan's cold stare cut Sawyer's performance short. He didn't just barge in; he was worried that if there was a woman inside, it would be super awkward. So, he used his eyes to ask Sawyer, "Can I come in?"

Sawyer stepped aside and opened the door, "Sure, come on in, Nathan."

Nathan felt a bit confused, catching that faint orange blossom scent again. He warned himself not to get lost in it; it had to be an illusion.

Sitting on the sofa, Nathan scanned the room. Everything seemed normal, but the presidential suite was huge, and Nathan felt too awkward to check every room for women.

Sawyer stood to the side, clueless about why Nathan had shown up so late.

The awkward silence was finally broken by Sawyer. "Nathan, is there something you need?"

"No," Nathan replied.

Sawyer thought to himself, 'If there's nothing, why are you here in the middle of the night?'

At this moment, Nathan was thinking about what Charles had said about Sawyer checking into the hotel with a lady. Nathan immediately thought that the handsome and charming Sawyer couldn't possibly be with an older woman, but he knew Charles wouldn't lie. Still uneasy, he pointed to a few rooms and asked, "May I take a look?

Sawyer was stunned. Nathan had seen all kinds of situations; why would he care about hotel rooms?

He didn't get it but still agreed, "Sure, go ahead."

Nathan checked each room, confirming there were no women.

The beds were tidy and untouched.

Nathan felt relieved.

"Do you have a girlfriend?" Nathan asked.

Sawyer smiled, "Nathan, are you checking if I brought a girl back? I'm an adult; having a girlfriend is normal, right?"

Nathan didn't answer directly. "Don't stay at the hotel anymore; come home."

"No, I like staying at the hotel. I love the hustle and bustle; staying at home would disturb others," Sawyer explained.

Nathan had no intention of interfering; young people should have the freedom to be willful.

Nathan then changed the topic. "You should be careful when choosing a girlfriend."

Sawyer understood that Nathan thought staying at the hotel made it easier to date. This was the core reason for Nathan's visit tonight.

"Nathan, I told you, I don't have a girlfriend. If I did, I would definitely bring her to you for approval," Sawyer said, trying to flatter him.

"Alright," Nathan replied. He got up and headed for the door.

With no women in Sawyer's room, Nathan felt a bit more at ease. Just as he was about to leave the hotel, he bumped into an assistant director from "Thunder 2."

"Mr. Kennedy? You're here too?" the assistant director greeted quickly.

Nathan gave a slight nod.

"What a coincidence. I'm meeting a friend here too," the assistant director said.

Nathan nodded again.

"Well, Mr. Kennedy, please," the assistant director said.

Nathan didn't pay much attention and quickly left the hotel.

On the drive back, his mind kept flipping between thoughts of Caroline and the assistant director.

He remembered that during the first audition, Caroline had told the staff that she'd do whatever it took to get the role.

Caroline showing up at the hotel tonight, and the assistant director being there too. Was it just a coincidence? Or was Caroline trying to cozy up to the assistant director for some advantage?

Thinking about this, Nathan turned his car around and headed back to the hotel.

Once there, he didn't get out but sat quietly for a moment.

Caroline was just an actress; her private life was none of his business. So why was he so mad?

"Mr. Kennedy, do you need us to park your car?" the security guard asked cautiously.

The guard had been standing by the car for several minutes, seeing Nathan's gloomy face, too scared to speak.

Nathan didn't say a word. He just hit the gas, and the sports car roared away.

Caroline dragged her tired body into the house, collapsed on the sofa, and fell into a deep sleep. She was wiped out.

The next morning, Ryan and Sophie were already up, busy in the kitchen with Sarah making breakfast. Seeing Caroline still resting, they moved quietly, not wanting to disturb her.

When Caroline woke up, Sophie cheered and ran over. "Good morning, Mom!"

"Good morning, Sophie and Ryan. I'm sorry I got back so late last night and couldn't be with you," Caroline apologized.

"Mom, I have something important to tell you," Sophie said mysteriously.

"What is it?" Caroline asked, curious.

"We met Nathan yesterday. He looks a lot like us!" Sophie said excitedly.

Caroline was stunned. "Who? Who did you meet?"

"Nathan, the super handsome CEO Nathan," Sophie replied.

Caroline rushed into the kitchen and grabbed Sarah's hand. "What are you up to again? Didn't I tell you not to let Ryan and Sophie meet Nathan?"

"I'm innocent. They met by chance; I wasn't there," Sarah said, looking innocent.

"By chance? How could Nathan and my kids meet by chance? If it wasn't you who arranged it, who else could it be? Last time you let Ryan and Sophie shoot an ad without my permission, I was already upset. I told you not to take Ryan and Sophie to do things behind my back. Why don't you listen? Are you so desperate for money that you don't care about anything? You keep using Ryan and Sophie over and over again!" Caroline snapped.

The more Caroline spoke, the angrier she got, scolding non-stop. Sarah, who had been happily making breakfast, now felt full of grievances.

"In your eyes, am I just a money-grubbing villain?" Sarah shot back, equally angry.
