Chapter 152

"Yes, if you see a white suit, that's Mr. Nick Kennedy. Unless you're blind and can't see!"

"Got it. That's Mr. Nick Kennedy, the one in white." The bodyguard replied nervously.

"That's right. Also, unless Mr. Nick Kennedy waves you over, stay put and don't wander around. But if he is in danger, you must protect him with your life, understand?"

"Understood."

At that moment, Nathan noticed John's black Jeep and gestured for him to handle the follow-up. They needed to destroy any nearby surveillance cameras to make it look like there had been no fight and no car smashing, as if everything was perfectly normal.

Joseph was still lying on the ground, while Caroline was being dragged by the fierce Nathan towards a flashy sports car.

She was shoved into the car, which then sped off into the night, disappearing from sight.

Joseph wanted to call the police, but his phone was kicked away. A tall figure approached. "Sir, do you need help?"

"I was attacked! I want to call the police! Why did you kick my phone?"

"Sir, are you hallucinating? I've been standing across the street and didn't see anyone attacking you."

"Impossible! He came up and hit me!"

"Really, I didn't see anyone hit you, sir. If you don't need help, I'll be on my way." The man walked towards the black Jeep and left.

Inside the car, Caroline stared at the cold profile, not daring to speak.

The sports car sped towards the outskirts, the speed making her heart race. Caroline's face turned pale as she gripped the handle tightly. "Nick, slow down."

However, her plea seemed to make the car go even faster.

Finally, the car stopped. Caroline, not caring about anything else, got out and squatted by the roadside, vomiting uncontrollably.

The tension made her stomach churn, and combined with severe motion sickness, she felt like she was going to throw up everything inside her.

After the vomiting subsided, Caroline noticed her face was covered in tears.

A bottle of water flew from a distance, hitting her back. She turned to see itlying at her feet.

She unscrewed the cap and rinsed her mouth, feeling somewhat relieved.

Sitting on the ground to rest, the roar of the engine suddenly started, and she turned to see the car driving away.

"Wait for me! What are you doing leaving me here?" Her call went unanswered, only the receding car and the accelerating engine sound remained.

This was an undeveloped suburban area, with nearby construction sites yet to start—a desolate wasteland.

At this late hour, no taxis would pass by, let alone buses. Caroline was abandoned in the wilderness.

Helpless, she had to walk towards the city.

The high-speed drive made it impossible to judge the distance and time. Without transportation, she could only walk.

"Nick, you bastard!" Caroline cursed angrily.

After ten minutes, fatigue set in.

Though the motion sickness had eased, the headache persisted and wouldn't go away easily. The surroundings were pitch black, with only moonlight and distant scattered lights guiding the way.

As she calmed down, a new fear took hold. It wasn't ghosts that frightened her, but people far more terrifying.

If she encountered a man here, her looks might make her a target.

Thinking of this, Caroline quickened her pace, but it was to no avail. Half an hour of walking didn't get her far.

She wore high heels for the party, and now her feet were in unbearable pain.

Ahead, car lights flashed, and a red sports car sped towards her. Caroline was overjoyed, thinking Nick had come to pick her up after all!

The car sped past her and turned around a few hundred feet ahead.

Caroline stood by the roadside, ready to get in as soon as the car arrived. She was too tired to walk any further.

As the car approached, she forced a smile, planning to scold him once she got in.

But the car sped past her again without any intention of stopping.

Did it come back just to check if she was still alive?

"Bastard, scum, despicable person." Caroline was livid, hurling every curse she could think of at Nathan, but it was all in vain.

Caroline regained her composure and continued her journey.

This place was isolated, and meeting anyone there could have spelled danger.

Even the kindest person might have harbored dark thoughts upon encountering a beautiful woman alone at night.

Everyone had a shadow side, just waiting for the right moment to surface.

Caroline endured the pain and quickened her pace, hoping to find a place with light. Thankfully, she soon spotted a roadside barbecue stand, where a group of workers were sitting and drinking.

Although the construction hadn't officially started, many workers had arrived early to prepare. These laborers worked hard during the day and gathered here to drink at night.

Caroline's appearance was like an angel descending to earth, illuminating the dim surroundings and catching the eyes of the men who were drinking.

"Look, who's that beauty? Where did she come from?"

"Could she be the ghostly beauty from urban legends? That place is still under construction; no workers have moved in yet. What's she doing there in the middle of the night?"

"If she's a ghostly beauty of this caliber, I'd be thrilled to 'encounter a ghost' once," one man said with a lecherous grin.

"There's no such thing as real ghosts. I think she's lonely at night, looking for excitement, and got lost." The men laughed and joked without any regard for whether Caroline could hear them.

Caroline didn't catch every word, but she heard enough to feel a wave of tension.

The middle-aged woman behind the barbecue stand quickly signaled Caroline to leave and not provoke the rough men. The woman leaned forward slightly, in a protective stance.

Caroline, exhausted, quickened her pace, eyes fixed ahead, and hurried past the stand.

Unexpectedly, a few steps away, she heard hurried footsteps behind her.

She turned abruptly to see several shadows in the dim light, following closely!

Caroline's heart tightened. She tried to speed up, but her high heels were a burden, making it almost impossible to move.

So, she decisively kicked off her high heels, feeling relieved, and ran with all her might.

The men saw this and quickened their pace, closing in.

Just when all hope seemed lost, a car's headlights cut through the darkness, offering a glimmer of hope.

"Help me!" Caroline waved her hand, nearly screaming.

The car seemed to respond to her call, roaring towards the pursuers with blinding headlights, causing them to scatter in fear. It then executed a stylish drift and came to a steady stop beside Caroline.

Caroline, not caring about her image, lunged forward. "I was wrong, I shouldn't have gone to the party, and I shouldn't have gotten into Joseph's car!" She instinctively realized the source of Nick's anger, even though she didn't know it was Nathan.

The car slowed slightly but didn't come to a complete stop.

Caroline followed, running and shouting, "Please, I really know I was wrong!"
