Chapter 84
Sawyer said, "I'm not backing out, I swear I didn't do it. What do you need from me? I might not be blood-related to the Kennedy Family, but we do have some ties."
Caroline reassured him, "I don't want you to betray the Kennedy Family. Just help me gather some info when it counts. Don't stress."
Sawyer nodded. "Alright, I'll give it a shot, but no promises I'll nail it."
After their chat, the whole day was a blur of intense filming. Sawyer had been away for a few days, so now he had to hustle to catch up on his scenes.
Caroline had pretty much become the main female lead, with most of her scenes being with Sawyer.
Every now and then, there were scenes with Roxanne and Megan, but they were rare.
It was late when they finally wrapped up, and Sawyer offered to drive Caroline home.
They were close, so Caroline didn't think twice and hopped into his car.
When she got home, she realized her phone was missing. She borrowed Sarah's phone to call it, and to her surprise, Sawyer picked up. It turned out she left her phone in his car.
Caroline asked him to bring it over, but Sawyer told her to come get it herself. He also mentioned he had a bunch of fan gifts from his trip and wanted Caroline to take them. He invited her to play some games, saying he missed their team-ups.
Caroline had no choice but to drive Sarah's car to Sawyer's hotel.
Sawyer wasn't kidding; there was a mountain of pricey fan gifts.
These items, worth a small fortune, were generously given by Sawyer, and Caroline was thrilled.
She grabbed her phone and the gifts, ready to leave, but Sawyer stopped her. "Leaving already?"
"Yeah. You gave these willingly; are you gonna charge me now?" Caroline asked, a bit wary.
"Since you're here, at least play a few games before you go. I need to help you get back that killer gameplay," Sawyer suggested.
Caroline sighed inwardly, 'The one who's good at games is Ryan!'
But she couldn't tell him that. If Sawyer found out the person he admired was a four-year-old and that she'd been fooling him, it would be a disaster.
Reluctantly, Caroline played a few games with him, losing every single one.
Sawyer got frustrated. "Why are you getting worse?"
"You just said I'm off my game," Caroline replied with a bitter smile.
"When will you get back to form?" Sawyer seemed irritated.
"Soon, I guess," Caroline muttered.
Before she could finish, the doorbell rang.
"Do you have another guest tonight? Who'd you invite?" Caroline asked.
"I don't invite anyone else but you. Check who it is, I'm busy," Sawyer said, eyes glued to the game.
Caroline got up and peeked through the peephole, almost falling over in shock.
It was Nathan. Even through the door, she could feel his icy presence!
Why was he here, and what did he want?
If he found out she was in Sawyer's room this late, who knew what he'd think? He might even throw her out the window! Caroline was panicking.
She quietly returned to Sawyer's side and nudged him. "We've got a problem, Nathan's here!"
"What?" Sawyer hadn't processed it yet.
"Nathan is here!" Caroline repeated.
Sawyer jumped up, startled. "Where?"
"Scared, aren't you? He's outside the door. What do we do?" Caroline asked.
"What should we do? You need to leave!" Sawyer was frantic.
"Are you nuts? Nathan's outside; how can I leave?" Caroline retorted.
"Then what do we do?" Sawyer was at a loss.
"Why don't you tell him you're asleep and ask him to come back later?" Caroline suggested.
Just then, Sawyer's phone lit up with a call. Seeing the caller ID, he panicked even more. "Nathan's calling!"
"Answer it and tell him you're asleep!" Caroline instructed.
"Nathan, I'm asleep. Can you come back later?" Sawyer answered the phone.
Caroline knew this was bad. By saying that, Sawyer was admitting he heard the knock but deliberately didn't answer.
"Open the door, now," Nathan's voice on the phone was so cold it could freeze the air.
"Nathan, I'm really tired. Is it urgent?" Sawyer tried to stall.
But Nathan had already hung up.
Sawyer was about to ask Caroline for advice, but she had already slipped into the bedroom.
For Caroline, running away wasn't an option; finding a hiding spot was key! But where was safe? Under the bed? That was clearly not practical!
She looked around and found the closet to be the only suitable place.
Luckily, the closet was spacious. Caroline easily slipped in, not feeling cramped at all. She pulled some clothes over herself and closed the door.
Seeing Caroline hide so cleverly, Sawyer silently praised her wit, thinking she must have done sneaky stuff often to be so skilled at hiding.
He took a deep breath to calm himself and then opened the door.
A cold aura hit Sawyer as soon as he opened the door. Nathan stood there, saying nothing, but Sawyer felt an invisible pressure.
"Nathan, it's so late. What's up?" Sawyer asked nervously.
Nathan said nothing, striding into the room.
On the table was a bag full of luxury brand gifts, and the carpet was littered with snacks, one bag half-open, clearly indicating someone had been eating there.
Nathan frowned and asked in an icy voice, "Weren't you asleep?"
