Chapter 112

"White Deadnettle," Ryan answered.

Caroline pretended to be knowledgeable. "It's a medicinal herb, right?"

"Mommy knows too?" Ryan was pleasantly surprised.

Caroline panicked. "Yes, I know a little."

"Then do you remember that the herb can both treat infectious diseases and detoxify?" Ryan asked expectantly.

"It seems so," Caroline replied, even more uneasy.

Nathan's eyes were sharp, as if trying to see through her thoughts.

Caroline forced herself to stay calm, secretly regretting getting involved.

"So you also agree to use White Deadnettle for mosquito bites?" Nathan asked again.

"Well, I'm not sure. You guys decide," Caroline said hastily and left in a hurry.

Nathan looked puzzled. Why did she run away?

"Mommy gets shy when she sees you," Ryan explained for her.

Nathan was even more confused. Why would she be shy?

"With our two votes against your one, we win." Ryan said with a smile.

"But she didn't really express her opinion. I don't think she understands," Nathan retorted.

Ryan thought, 'I think so too!'

At this moment, John walked over. "Mr. Kennedy, someone is feeling chills, possibly due to a tropical disease. But we don't have medicine. What should we do?"

Nathan and Ryan exchanged glances.

Clearly, Ryan's hypothesis about mosquito-borne diseases was not unfounded; the situation was becoming evident.

"We'll go gather herbs," Nathan said.

"Okay," Ryan responded.

By noon, the White Deadnettle they had gathered was made into a decoction, and everyone drank it.

There were no side effects, and the symptoms of the team members with fever gradually eased.

After lunch, Caroline and Ryan lay in the tent.

"Ryan, how do you know so much? Where did you learn it?" Caroline whispered.

"I learned from books, and some from the internet."

"You're just a kid; why are you studying medicine?" Caroline was puzzled.

"When I was abroad, I heard that witch doctors were amazing, so I self-studied some books related to witch doctors and learned about herbs."

"I didn't know you read books about witch doctors."

"Mommy, you're too busy working to support the family, so you don't have time to care about what books I read."

Caroline felt a pang of sadness. Indeed, she knew too little about Ryan.

On the border of Elysium, Sawyer looked at the vast primeval forest below, feeling tense.

It was a deadly labyrinth of nature; once caught inside, escape seemed impossible.

Roxanne was even more terrified, eyes closed, trembling.

Before boarding, the rescue team had detailed the dangers of the jungle.

"Are you nervous?" Sawyer suddenly asked.

"No, I'm just excited to see Nathan soon," Roxanne lied again.

"Really? But the rescue won't be easy. In this vast sea of trees, without knowing their exact location and with poor visibility, it's hard to find them," Sawyer explained.

"I have faith in you. I also believe he's very lucky."

"Alright, stop acting, Roxanne. Why did you harm Demi and her child? Who are those kidnappers?" Sawyer questioned directly.

"I don't understand what you're talking about. I didn't harm Demi. Her child's disappearance has nothing to do with me. Although Demi and I didn't get along in the crew, it was only work-related. We had no personal grudges," Roxanne pretended to be calm.

"Really? Then why did you hide a poisoned needle in Demi's costume?" Sawyer asked coldly.

"It has nothing to do with me. Don't accuse me," Roxanne defended herself excitedly.

"Let's not talk about the past. Who kidnapped her child?"

"How would I know? I've already said it has nothing to do with me!"

"Roxanne, are you still not admitting it?" Sawyer shouted angrily.

"You're wronging me. I'll tell Nathan! You're trying to frame me!"

"You're really annoying. You're still acting. Robert Davis, open the hatch and throw her out," Sawyer ordered his subordinate.

"Yes, sir!"

Roxanne panicked upon hearing this. If she were thrown out of the plane, there would be no chance of survival.

"Sawyer, you can't do this to me. I'm Nathan's girlfriend!"

"I'm giving you one more chance. If you don't tell the truth, I'll throw you out. There are plenty of wild beasts and venomous snakes in this forest. You'll disappear without a trace!"

Seeing that Sawyer wasn't joking, Roxanne became even more terrified.

"Sawyer, don't do this. Let's find Nathan together. I'm his girlfriend. If you help me, you'll get the lead roles in all his future film and TV investments!"

Sawyer sneered. "If I want to act in Nathan's projects, I don't need you to say so. Cut the crap. Are you gonna tell the truth or not?"

"I really don't know. What do you want me to say?"

"Throw her out!" Sawyer ordered harshly.

"No, please don't!" Roxanne screamed, her face turning pale.

"You tricky woman. If you don't own up, you'll be thrown to the beasts."

Roxanne was shocked. She realized that Sawyer wasn't bluffing; he really intended to push her into the abyss.

She never expected that this seemingly gentle Sawyer could be so ruthless.

"I'll talk. Just let go of me first!" Roxanne finally admitted her cowardice.

"Take your time and be clear. If you lie even once, you'll regret it!"

"Megan was behind the poisoned needle. It had nothing to do with me," Roxanne's words still contained falsehoods.

"I'm asking about the child. Don't change the subject!"

"I didn't kidnap the child. I don't have that capability. But I know the inside story."

"Go on. If I catch you lying, I'll throw you out immediately!"

Roxanne's eyes flickered as she weighed which secrets to reveal.

"Hurry up. Are you trying to make up a story to fool me?" Sawyer shouted sternly.
