Chapter 171
"Sawyer hit someone!" The first woman to react started shouting.
Caroline, quick on her feet, snatched her phone and threw it directly into the barbecue grill.
Since things had already escalated, she decided to go all the way!
Seeing this, Nick thought it was a good idea and prepared to grab the phone of the woman next to him.
But that woman was prepared and quickly dodged away.
Nick naturally wouldn't chase after her. How could someone of his status chase a woman over a phone? That would be too embarrassing.
"You guys are actually snatching phones, I'm going to call the police!" the aggressive female reporter shouted loudly.
"Go ahead and call the police. Do you even know who I am? You've been in Silver Lake City for so long and still don't know the rules? With just one word, I can make sure you have no place in this city, do you believe it?" Nick said coldly.
The woman fell silent, just staring at the phone in the barbecue grill in a daze.
Anyone with some common sense in Silver Lake City knew the power of the Kennedy family, and this woman certainly understood it too.
Caroline took out her phone and snapped photos of the two women.
"Why are you taking pictures of us? What's your purpose?" one of the women asked anxiously.
"That's strange, you can take pictures of me, but I can't take pictures of you?" Caroline sneered.
"Why are you taking pictures of us? We're not celebrities. What do you want?" the other woman asked.
Caroline sneered, "Of course, it's for revenge! This is a private gathering, and you suddenly barged in and started taking pictures without any manners. Now you're even threatening us. If I don't remember what you look like, how can I get my revenge?"
The two women exchanged glances, clearly showing fear in their eyes. They weren't afraid of Caroline, but they were afraid of Nick and the Kennedy family.
"Our phones are broken, and we didn't get any pictures. Let's just consider this a misunderstanding," one of the women softened her tone.
"No, this is not a misunderstanding. Tell me, who are you? What's your identity? How did you know where we were? Who tipped you off?" Caroline pressed on.
The woman remained silent.
When it came to the core question, she wouldn't speak.
"Not willing to talk, huh? I'll find out. Even if you don't say, we can still find out," Caroline said.
Then she picked up her coat and signaled Sawyer and Nick to leave. Things had escalated to this point, and they had no choice but to go.
Sawyer put his mask back on, and the group left the private room. But as soon as they went downstairs, they were all stunned.
The entire hall was bustling with people, many of whom were trying to rush upstairs but were stopped by the restaurant staff.
As soon as Sawyer appeared, people immediately raised their phones and started taking pictures.
"Sway." A girl's voice was particularly piercing.
Sawyer was still wearing a mask, yet they recognized him.
"Sawyer, we love you!" Whether they were real fans or fake fans, they swarmed around him.
It was impossible to stop them, and Caroline and the others were surrounded by dozens of people, unable to move.
In the chaos, Sawyer's mask was pulled off by someone, causing a new round of screams.
Caroline thought to herself, 'Oh no! How do we get out of here?'
They could only call the police; otherwise, they wouldn't be able to leave tonight.
They shouldn't have sent the bodyguards away. If they had brought the bodyguards, they could have at least forced their way out.
"Everyone, calm down; let's talk!" Caroline shouted.
No one paid attention to her. Despite her good looks, the two handsome guys were clearly more attractive to the girls present.
Especially Sawyer, those girls wanted nothing more than to rush up and kiss him.
The circle of people got smaller and smaller, and Sawyer was pushed to his limit.
Some even started harassing him, and in the chaos, it was unclear whether it was a man or a woman.
Just when they were at a loss, someone broke through the crowd, holding an iron rod. "Move!"
Because he was swinging the iron rod, people around him dodged.
He successfully reached Caroline and pulled her away.
But Caroline didn't want to follow this person because he was Joseph.
Caroline didn't know where he came from or why he suddenly appeared here.
She didn't want to go with him, but he pulled her along, and the remaining fans rushed towards Sawyer. Seeing that the person was after Caroline, the fans were no longer afraid and squeezed towards Sawyer, constantly pushing Caroline out.
Caroline kept trying to break free from Joseph's grip, but he held her tightly. They got out the door, and to their surprise, the crowd outside was even larger, possibly because they heard that Sawyer was there and rushed over in a frenzy.
Caroline was squeezed and disoriented, and just as she caught her breath, Joseph pushed her into a car parked outside.
She wanted to get out, but Joseph persuaded her, "Carol, let's go first. Staying here won't help; you'll only drag them down. They'll find a way out. If you stay, it will only give the media more material. The Kennedy family will handle it, right?"
Looking at the swarming fans in the distance, Caroline thought Joseph made sense. The longer she stayed, the harder it would be to clarify her relationship with Sawyer.
Caroline didn't want to ride in his car, but given the situation, she had no choice.
Seeing Caroline not moving, Joseph immediately closed the car door, stepped on the gas, and the car sped away.
As they got farther from the restaurant, Caroline coldly asked, "Why are you here?"
"Luckily, I was here, or how would you have gotten out?" Joseph said smugly.
"You've been following me, haven't you?" Caroline questioned.
"No, I just happened to be passing by," Joseph denied.
"Passing by? Just like that?" Caroline didn't believe him.
"Maybe it's a psychic connection. I sensed you were in trouble and came over," Joseph explained.
"You must be stalking me. What's your purpose?"
"What purpose could I have? I like you, so I want to protect you. I know you like me too. I believe we'll be together eventually. I'm confident," Joseph said confidently.
"I've told you I don't like you, and we can't be together. Why do you keep pestering me? I warn you, if you have any schemes, you'd better stop, or you'll face the consequences!" Caroline said unceremoniously.
"Carol, that's not fair. No matter what, I saved you today. You don't have to thank me, but don't keep blaming me. It really hurts my feelings," Joseph said, feeling wronged.
"Cut it out. I find you very suspicious. I just don't have evidence now. If I find out you have any schemes, I'll make you pay!"
