Chapter 88
Aiden took another sip of his coffee. "Go ahead, but I doubt I'll agree."
Nick let out a quiet sigh of relief; at least he had a shot to speak.
"Grandpa, please sit down. I rushed here from Stellaria and wanted to bring you and Grandma gifts, but I was in such a hurry that I forgot," Nick said.
Making Aiden happy first was always a good move. When Aiden was happy, everything else fell into place.
"Gifts from Stellaria? What is it, a little lion or a rattlesnake?" Aiden joked.
Nick chuckled, "How could I bring those? I brought back a diamond!"
"A diamond?" Aiden asked, raising an eyebrow.
Nick nodded. "Yeah, a big one. I originally wanted to give it to Demi, but she didn't want it."
Aiden frowned. "She didn't want it, so you thought of giving it to me? I don't want it either!"
Nick felt a wave of frustration. Why did he always say the wrong thing? His emotional intelligence was no match for Nathan's.
"It's not like that, Grandpa. Let me explain. I have a son and a daughter now, and they are super cute and smart! They're two little treasures, and I want to bring them back to the Kennedy Family."
"Sure!" Aiden agreed before Nick could finish.
Bringing Ryan and Sophie home was obviously a good thing, so of course, Aiden agreed.
"But Nathan doesn't agree! Grandpa, you have to convince him," Nick sighed, looking troubled.
"Are you sure? Nathan mentioned this, and he didn't seem opposed. The kids should come home," Aiden said.
"Yeah, I think so too, but Nathan just doesn't agree, so I'm asking for your help," Nick explained.
"Why doesn't Nathan agree?" Aiden was puzzled.
"He won't say, and I don't know the reason," Nick replied, looking distressed.
"I'll call him directly to find out," Aiden said.
Nick stopped him. "Wait, Grandpa, you have to be on my side first. Tell me, do you support bringing Ryan and Sophie back?"
"Of course, I support it," Aiden said clearly.
"That's good. Then we don't need to worry about Nathan's opinion; we'll decide for ourselves," Nick suggested.
"Decide what?" Aiden asked, confused.
"I want to have a grand wedding with Demi, to show everyone that I'm not a heartless person," Nick explained.
"Who's Demi?" Aiden asked.
"She's the kids' mother," Nick replied.
Aiden suddenly understood. "So Nathan is against you marrying her?"
Nick nodded. "Yeah."
"Nathan must have his reasons. Ryan and Sophie are our family, and bringing them back is a no-brainer. But whether Demi is suitable to marry you needs careful thought. Demi hid your kids for years and now suddenly appears; her motives are naturally suspect. Nathan may be strict, but he's not heartless. If he opposes, he must have his reasons," Aiden said slowly.
"Why do you all have this attitude? Do you think it's reasonable? Ryan and Sophie are my kids, and Demi is my woman. Why can't I marry her? Nathan's girlfriend, Roxanne, is also in the entertainment industry, and he dotes on her. He can do whatever he wants, but I can't. Why?" Nick's voice rose, but he kept his emotions in check.
"Nathan acts with discretion, and I trust his judgment," Aiden said calmly.
"So, you don't support me either, do you?" Nick asked, sounding desperate.
"I need to talk to Nathan first. I can't promise you anything right now. Ryan and Sophie need to come back and be raised properly. As for Demi, we can compensate her. Raising Ryan and Sophie alone can't be easy, and money isn't an issue as long as it's reasonable. But marrying Demi into the Kennedy Family needs careful thought," Aiden said, waving his hand to signal Nick to leave.
Nick suddenly felt the Kennedy Family was too cold.
Demi was beautiful and had raised Ryan and Sophie on her own. How could his family question her character?
And Demi hadn't even agreed to marry him yet!
"I get it. You and Nathan both think Demi is just a small-time actress, not good enough to be my wife, right?" Nick asked angrily.
"It's about character," Aiden explained briefly.
"Hypocrites! You clearly look down on her background. You won't let me marry her, but Nathan's girlfriend is also an actress. I want to see how you'll judge her when she marries Nathan!" Nick snapped and stormed out.
At Harper's psychology clinic, Harper looked at Nathan, who had been asleep in a chair for a while, and felt a ripple of worry.
She sighed inwardly, 'Nathan, my clinic is supposed to be a place for mental relief, not a napping spot. Why do you come here every day for a nap?'
For three days straight, every afternoon when the sunlight filled the office, Nathan would show up uninvited, lie down in the chair, and fall asleep immediately.
In his sleep, Nathan was as quiet as a statue. No one knew if he was truly dreaming, and Harper didn't dare disturb him.
Because he occupied the space, Harper had to cancel all her appointments. With Nathan around, she couldn't let any visitors near this private area.
In the past, Nathan occasionally visited for a nap, but never for three days in a row.
He was the busiest man in Aurora City, and his time was as valuable as gold. It was baffling that he would spend half an hour here every day to rest.
From a professional psychologist's perspective, Harper guessed that Nathan was facing a difficult emotional knot.
Nathan had a huge unresolved issue in his heart but didn't want anyone to see it, so he sought solace in Harper's clinic.
Clearly, the solace hadn't been achieved. He was just temporarily easing his inner struggle here.
His presence here provided a psychological hint that his problems could be solved as this clinic was a place for answers; at least, this hint brought him a bit of peace.
However, he remained silent, refusing to communicate with Harper, leaving the problem unresolved.
Harper's curiosity was thoroughly piqued. What kind of predicament was this seemingly invincible Nathan facing that made him so troubled?
At that moment, Nathan's long legs moved slightly, and Harper quickly handed him the prepared ice water.
Nathan had extreme preferences; he only drank either hot coffee or ice water.
Nathan took the ice water and slowly drank it.
"What exactly happened?" Harper tried to start the conversation.
