Chapter 163
At five in the afternoon, Nick first took the kids to the Kennedy Mansion for the nanny to take care of, and then went to the set to pick up Caroline, preparing to go to the hospital together to visit Sawyer.
While still on the way, his phone rang. It was a video call request from Olivia.
Nick pulled over to the side of the road and answered the call.
Olivia, being an actress, even chose a good angle for the video. The phone screen displayed a perfectly delicate face.
"Is there something you need, Miss Smith?" Nick asked.
"Mr. Kennedy, that guy named Miller is here again."
"Miller?" Nick didn't immediately understand.
"The one who drives a BMW and brought flowers to Ms. Murphy," Olivia said.
"Fuck! He's here again? I'll be right there. I'll teach him a lesson." Nick ended the video call, increased his speed, and raced towards the set.
On the set, Caroline was also feeling helpless. She had planned to leave with Sarah, but Joseph had cornered her.
"Carol, we had some misunderstandings before, but I can explain everything. Just give me a chance. Let's have dinner together."
"I told you, I have to visit a friend; I don't have time today."
"Then let me drive you there; we can talk on the way."
"No need, I'll ride with Sarah."
"Carol, why are you so heartless? I took half a day off from work to invite you to dinner and waited here for hours. Is this how you treat me?"
Even Sarah couldn't stand it anymore. "Let him give you a ride. I think he's being sincere."
"Yeah, you don't have time to have dinner with me, but at least let me give you a ride. I just want to talk to you," Joseph said pitifully.
"Joseph, why are you doing this? I told you it's impossible between us. We're not naive high school students anymore. We can't go back. Stop bothering me!" Caroline said angrily.
"Can't we at least be friends? I came all this way to pick you up. You won't have dinner with me, and you won't even let me give you a ride?" Joseph persisted.
"Ms. Murphy, he's being sincere. Just ride with him. What's the difference whose car you take? You can get out when you reach your destination. It's the same thing," Olivia also tried to persuade her.
"I..." Caroline really didn't want to get into Joseph's car. Once she got in, it would easily lead to misunderstandings!
"Go ahead, Ms. Murphy. If you don't agree, Mr. Miller won't give up. How long will this go on?" Olivia continued to persuade.
Caroline thought about it and realized Olivia was right. If she didn't get in the car, Joseph would keep standing there, making the situation awkward.
So she decided to get in the car.
"Fine, take me to Neurology Hospital. But let me be clear, I don't have time for dinner. I'm going to the hospital to visit a friend," Caroline finally agreed.
"Okay." Joseph was very happy that Caroline finally agreed.
Olivia also showed a happy smile.
She took out her phone and called her assistant, telling them to drive the car away and not wait for her.
Not long after Caroline left, Nick's luxury sports car arrived.
He found that most people had already left, and only Olivia was standing there.
"Where is she?" Nick got out of the car and looked around.
"Ms. Murphy left in Mr. Miller's car. It seems they went to have dinner," Olivia said.
"Dinner? With that bastard?" Nick was furious.
"Ms. Murphy wasn't into it, but Mr. Miller kept bugging her until she gave in. Sometimes, girls have to let pushy guys save face to avoid them getting creepy or doing something drastic." Olivia's words were skillfully phrased, making it sound like she was speaking on Caroline's behalf without making Nick upset.
"Have they been gone long?" Nick asked helplessly.
"I called you not long after they left, so they should be far away by now. Mr. Kennedy, don't you trust Ms. Murphy? She's a good woman. Don't worry, nothing will happen between her and Mr. Miller. It's just a meal."
But in fact, Caroline and the others had just left. If Nick drove now, he could easily catch up.
Nick took out his phone and called Caroline. Caroline quickly answered the call.
"I'm heading straight to the hospital. See you there," Caroline said.
"Why didn't you wait for me?" Nick was a bit annoyed.
"I forgot to tell you, I left with a friend's car. Just go directly to the hospital, and we'll meet there. That's it." Caroline didn't feel the need to explain too much to Nick and hung up the phone.
Nick was so angry that he almost threw his phone.
Seeing Nick's expression, Olivia guessed that Caroline hadn't said anything pleasant.
"Mr. Kennedy, there's nothing wrong with Ms. Murphy. Don't be mad at her. It's not worth it to get angry with a woman."
"Why are you still here? Aren't you leaving?" Nick looked at Olivia.
"I'm waiting for my assistant to come pick me up, but she said she had a flat tire on the way. She's a girl and doesn't know how to change a tire, so she has to wait for the rescue team to help her. It might take a while," Olivia said, checking her watch.
"Changing a tire takes a long time. Why don't you ride with me?" Nick suggested.
"No, if someone sees us, they might misunderstand. I'll wait a bit longer. You go ahead."
"Come on, this place is too remote to get a cab easily. How long are you going to wait? Get in the car."
"But, will it really not bother you?"
Nick smiled. "My reputation is already bad, I don't care about gossip."
"Alright then." Olivia smiled and got into the car.
As a well-known beauty in the industry, Olivia had no shortage of suitors.
But Olivia wouldn't easily agree to anyone's pursuit because she had high standards for herself.
She wasn't looking for a house or a car; she wanted greater benefits and higher social status.
So she had rejected many wealthy suitors, waiting for someone who could elevate her to the top tier of society before making her move.
Clearly, the person next to her now, with his top-notch looks and prestigious background as a member of the Kennedy family, was the type she had been waiting for.
Since arriving in Aurora City, she had been hearing about the Kennedy family through various channels.
The Kennedy family was almost a symbol of the city, with the Kennedy Corp's influence visible in every industry.
Even on her flight from Ocean City to Aurora City, the advertisements she heard were for the Kennedy Corp.
People around her were also discussing the Kennedy Corp and a person named Nathan.
In their gossip, Nathan was aloof, mysterious, and omnipotent—a god-like figure.
As for the Kennedy family, they were the number one family in Aurora City, without a doubt.
On her way to the hotel after landing, Olivia saw Kennedy Corp advertisements everywhere.
At that moment, she had an idea and searched for information about Nathan online.
With stunning looks and an icy demeanor, she could sense the detachment even through photos.
To Olivia's disappointment, Nathan was dating Roxanne, the famous star.
However, what puzzled Olivia was that she had come to the set to replace Roxanne.
If Roxanne had the Kennedy family as her backing, why was she replaced?
Moreover, Roxanne had recently disappeared completely, as if she had vanished from the world, leaving no trace in the industry.
Olivia had tried to find out what happened, but no one knew the truth or where Roxanne had gone.
She sensed that there was a story behind all this.
She had been waiting for an opportunity, and now it had finally come.
