Chapter 87

Nathan stayed quiet, sipping his coffee.

"I came here to talk about something important. I want to have a wedding for Demi, officially making her, Ryan, and Sophie part of the Kennedy Family."

"No way!" Nathan cut him off, his hand shaking so much that coffee spilled over the rim of his cup.

Nick was shocked by Nathan's strong reaction, not getting why he was so against it.

Nathan had helped Nick find Ryan, Sophie, and Caroline, so why was he against them coming back?

"Nathan, why not?" Nick asked, confused.

"Just no!" Nathan's voice was ice-cold.

"But they're my kids. Do you expect me to ditch them or what?" Nick pressed.

"Ryan and Sophie can come back, but not Demi," Nathan said firmly.

"Why? Demi's amazing, she's beautiful. Honestly, I think she's the most beautiful person I've ever met," Nick said, baffled.

"I said no, and I mean it!" Nathan insisted.

Nick tried to reason with him, "Nathan."

"I said no, and if you keep pushing this, get ready to go back to Stellaria!" Nathan slammed his hand on the table, his presence intimidating.

Nick was startled by Nathan's outburst.

Nathan had always been strict, but deep down, he cared for Nick. Everything he did was for Nick's good, and he usually explained his reasons.

But this time was different. Nathan was furious, resolute, and wouldn't budge.

The room fell into a tense silence, only their heavy breathing breaking it.

"Fine, then tell me why. I at least deserve to know the reason, don't I?" Nick demanded.

Nathan's lips moved slightly, but he stayed silent.

The truth was too heavy to speak.

Should he have said that Caroline had hinted at trading sexual favors just for a role during her interview, or the rumors of her affairs with multiple directors? Not to mention her sneaking into Sawyer's room at midnight?

It was too shameful to be told.

"So, you won't even tell me the reason?" Nick's face was full of disappointment.

"Just don't marry her," Nathan repeated.

"Nathan, I'm not a kid. I respect you, but that doesn't mean you can control everything I do! You said the office renovation was up to me, but after it was done, you said it was too extravagant. You sent me to Stellaria, and I accepted it. Now I've found my family and want to give them a rightful place. Is that too much to ask? You disagree, fine, but you won't even give me a reason. What am I supposed to do?" Nick's tone was mixed with anger and frustration.

Nathan understood Nick's frustration, but he wouldn't back down on this matter.

He wouldn't allow a woman of low character like Caroline to enter the Kennedy Family; she wasn't worthy!

Nick insisted, "Nathan, if you won't help, I'll contact the wedding planner myself. I want Ryan and Sophie to be the flower children."

"No way!" Nathan stopped him again.

"This time, I won't listen to you!" Nick was just as stubborn.

Nathan replied, "I will not allow you to marry Demi!"

Nick was determined. "I will marry Demi!"

Nathan threatened, "Then get ready to go back to Stellaria tomorrow!"

"I'm not going. I'll tell Grandpa!" Nick stood up angrily, "I'll tell Grandpa that you're bullying me and my family!"

Nathan looked at Nick, who had never been so defiant, his lips trembling with anger.

What made Demi so enchanting? Even Nick would go against his twin brother for her.

"Stop!" Nathan shouted.

Nick, though fuming, didn't want to completely fall out with Nathan.

Nathan's shout made Nick freeze in his tracks.

"Nathan, can't you consider my feelings?" Nick put on a pitiful look.

After all, going head-to-head with someone as authoritative as Nathan usually didn't end well.

Nathan looked at Nick, wanting to spill the truth and let Nick see Caroline's true colors.

But the words were too hard to say. "Nick, have I ever harmed you?"

"No, you've always been good to me. Even though you're strict, I know you mean well. I'm not a fool; I get it," Nick responded sincerely.

"Listen to me this time," Nathan insisted, "Some things you'll understand in time."

"What do you mean? You don't like Demi? Or is it because she has no background and is just an unknown actress? Her acting is really good. If we support her, she'll definitely become popular! As for her background, you're not a snob. Our family doesn't need to rely on others. I just want to marry the woman I love. Please agree!" Nick continued to plead.

"Enough, I have other matters to attend to. You should go back. I'll handle this," Nathan's tone was cold and heartless.

"Alright, I understand," Nick, utterly disappointed, left the room. He knew that Nathan never understood him and never thought about his request, as always.

In a simple residence of the Kennedy Manor, Nick paced anxiously in the spacious living room, waiting for Aiden to appear. Finally, Aiden slowly walked out from the backyard. Aiden didn't allow anyone to disturb him during his morning exercises.

"Grandpa, you're finally done!" Nick half-complained, half-whined.

But Aiden's gaze went past Nick, looking towards the door.

"Grandpa, what are you looking at?" Nick asked, puzzled.

"Where are my great-grandchildren?" Aiden asked, frowning.

Nick replied, "They didn't come!"

"If they didn't come, why are you here?" Aiden continued to ask.

Nick's face almost turned grim with anger and he felt as if he had become so insignificant in his family's eyes.

"Grandpa, I've been away in Stellaria for over half a year. Don't you miss me at all?" Nick asked, feeling a bit aggrieved.

"I don't miss you. You were causing trouble in Aurora City. It's been peaceful since you left," Aiden responded, taking the towel handed by a servant and lightly wiping his hands, preparing to enjoy his morning coffee.

"I get it. You all think I'm a good-for-nothing playboy, right?" Nick asked self-deprecatingly.

"Aren't you?" Aiden retorted, smiling as he took a sip of the aromatic hot coffee. "Do you need something?"

Before Nick could speak, Aiden continued, "Let me guess."

"For small matters, you can go to Nathan. No need to bother me. If you're coming to me, it must be something Nathan disagrees with. Go back; there's nothing to discuss," Aiden waved his hand, signaling the end of the conversation.

Nick was shocked by Aiden's attitude.

"If Nathan disagrees, I won't agree either. Go on," Aiden waved his hand again, adding.

"Grandpa, you're treating me like this too! At least listen to what I have to say before making a decision. Is that too much to ask?" Nick shouted, anxious and angry.

"Nathan is a reasonable person. If he opposes it, he has his reasons. Telling me won't change anything. I won't agree either," Aiden spoke.

"I know you love Nathan, but I'm also your grandson, am I? Listen to my explanation before deciding. Is that too much to ask?" Nick was getting desperate.
