Chapter 118
Nathan grew increasingly puzzled.
"I don't know," he replied bluntly.
"Fine," Caroline said angrily.
In fact, Nathan wasn't lying; he really didn't know!
His daily life was managed by others, so why would he care where his shirts were bought?
Silence filled the air again.
"Where exactly did you buy it? Do you wear the same style every time?" Caroline persisted.
Nathan stepped back, standing in front of Caroline, his imposing presence making her feel a bit nervous.
"This is a men's shirt!" Nathan said coldly.
His point was, it was clearly men's clothing. Even if she liked it, she couldn't wear it, so why bother asking where it was from?
"Of course, I know it's a men's shirt. Do you think you could wear women's clothing?" Caroline retorted.
Nathan was stunned again. How could her thinking be so erratic?
It suddenly dawned on him—was she thinking about buying a shirt for another man?
"Who are you buying it for?" Nathan asked coldly.
"What?" Caroline was confused.
"Which man?" Nathan suddenly felt a surge of anger.
"What man? Are you out of your mind?" Caroline retorted.
"The man you're buying the shirt for!" Nathan emphasized.
Caroline finally understood his intention and smirked. "I'm not telling you!"
"My shirts are custom-made. Every detail is unique, so you can't buy them!" As soon as Nathan finished speaking, he felt an inexplicable sense of satisfaction.
He thought, 'You want to buy my shirt for another man? No way! You can't find the same one!'
Even he couldn't understand why he was so serious about her casual remark!
Caroline thought for a moment and nodded. "What about the buttons?"
"What's wrong with the buttons?" Nathan asked.
"Nothing," Caroline didn't want to delve into it.
"What's the problem?" Nathan persisted.
"Nothing."
Nathan was a bit annoyed. What was she trying to do, being so hesitant?
It wasn't that Caroline didn't want to say; it was just too embarrassing to admit.
Besides, once she said it, it would seem like she had ulterior motives.
Caroline knew Nathan didn't like her, and she felt the same, so they couldn't talk deeply.
Although Nathan was curious, he had no way to force Caroline to speak.
Back at the camp, everyone could tell that Nathan and Caroline weren't happy.
No one knew what they had done, and no one dared to ask.
Sophie and Ryan whispered in a corner.
"Nathan's clothes are wet! Mom's hair is wet too!" Sophie observed keenly.
"So what?" Ryan looked at Sophie.
"Did they take a bath together?" Sophie whispered.
Ryan's eyes widened, shocked by Sophie's bold guess!
He opened his mouth but was speechless!
"Probably not," Sophie corrected herself, "Mom definitely wouldn't agree."
"Nathan wouldn't either," Ryan added.
"I was wrong," Sophie felt embarrassed by her own guess.
"Exactly," Ryan agreed.
"So what did they do?" Sophie asked.
Ryan knew but chose to keep it a secret.
If Sophie knew, she wouldn't be able to keep it to herself and would definitely spread it around.
"Let's go see Sawyer," Ryan suggested.
In the cabin, Sawyer's face was no longer pale and bruised; it had become much rosier. The toxins were gradually dissipating, and his condition was improving.
Ryan's treatment was correct, and Sawyer was recovering.
Who would have thought that a child would be the one to save the day at a critical moment?
"Ryan is amazing! He healed Sawyer," Sophie gave a thumbs up.
Ryan shook his head. "He's not awake yet."
"He will; I believe in your abilities," Sophie said firmly.
"I'm still worried," Ryan said with a serious expression.
"Worried about what? Sawyer is clearly getting better," Sophie didn't understand.
"I just feel uneasy, like something else is going to happen," Ryan said.
Sophie hugged Ryan gently. "You're the best! You will definitely heal Sawyer."
At this moment, Caroline walked over. "What are you two whispering about?"
"Mom, what did you and Nathan do?" Sophie asked.
Caroline didn't expect Sophie to ask this and was momentarily speechless.
She couldn't possibly say they took a bath, could she? Even to her own child, it was hard to admit.
"Just handling some things. Kids shouldn't worry about adult matters," Caroline responded curtly.
Sophie puffed her cheeks. "I'm not a kid anymore; I'm over four years old, not a two or three-year-old baby!"
"If you're an adult at four, then I must be ancient," Caroline said, both amused and annoyed.
"Mom is still young and the most beautiful."
"The most beautiful?" Nathan interjected as he approached.
"Is there a problem?" Caroline was angry at his disdainful look.
Nathan snorted and ignored her, bending down to check on Sawyer's condition.
"He seems much better; his breathing is stable," Nathan said.
"See, Ryan is amazing, right?" Sophie said proudly, as if she had healed Sawyer herself.
Nathan nodded. "Well, he is a Kennedy after all. He's naturally strong."
To Caroline, this sounded harsh. She thought, 'This is my son. Why should all his achievements be credited to the Kennedy Family?'
"Ryan, come here," Caroline said with motherly authority.
Ryan was confused, but Nathan understood Caroline's thoughts.
However, he remained silent, thinking how petty she was for trying to prove that Ryan belonged to her.
With Sawyer's condition stabilizing, everyone felt more at ease.
The search and rescue team returned, and the members of the second team were found one by one.
The base was filled with a bit of vitality, but it also brought new troubles. More people meant more food was needed. If rescue didn't come soon, the limited food supplies would quickly run out, and everyone might fall into another crisis. Too many people being involved made it very stressful.
At dusk, the tired rescuers went to the river to bathe and fish, trying to improve their meals.
Lively Sophie was curious about everything new and clamored to watch the fishing, but Caroline stopped her, making her pout and hide in the tent in a huff.
Caroline didn't care, but Nathan was anxious. He pulled Sophie out of the tent and put her on his shoulders, heading towards the river.
Caroline couldn't stand it and quickly intercepted them. "What are you doing?" she demanded.
