Chapter 150
"When I was a child, I had a deep love for financial books. Thick economic books were my favorites. Adults didn't understand and thought I was odd. It's like how we look at Ryan now, but in reality, we can all find joy in it," Nathan said, becoming particularly talkative when he was with Ryan and Sophie. His usual calm demeanor transformed into endless warmth and patience in front of them.
"So, you like studying economics?" Ryan asked curiously.
"Yes, I do. Very much. Economics may seem mundane, but it's not. It's a profound art that combines calculation, strategy, and even philosophy. Behind long-lasting companies, there is always a deep cultural foundation. Making money also requires wisdom and knowledge," Nathan's words revealed his deep understanding of the world.
Ryan nodded repeatedly, while Sophie looked puzzled. Clearly, the topic was a bit too deep for her.
"When is Mommy coming to pick us up?" Sophie cleverly changed the subject.
Nathan glanced at the time. "Soon. Do you prefer staying at Sarah's house or here?"
Ryan and Sophie exchanged a look. The convenience and comfort here, along with the personal service, were like a fairy tale, but they wisely didn't express it directly.
Because Caroline didn't like them staying here often. Ryan vaguely understood the reason, while Sophie was still somewhat confused. A child's world couldn't yet hold the complexities of the adult world.
Nathan noticed Ryan and Sophie's hesitation and didn't press further.
"When your mommy and daddy get married, you can stay here more often, and your mom won't take you away alone anymore," Nathan gently patted Sophie's head.
"Really?" Sophie's eyes sparkled with joy, like precious gems.
"I'm planning their wedding," Nathan confirmed with a nod.
Sophie clapped her hands in excitement. "That's great! Daddy and Mommy are getting married!"
"You're so cute; you could be the flower girl!" Nathan suggested.
"What kind of dress should I wear? A little wedding dress?" Sophie was already imagining her flower girl outfit. Little girls' love for beauty was universal.
"No need for a wedding dress, that's the bride's privilege. You can wear a pure white dress, like a little angel," Nathan answered seriously.
"When are we going to pick out the dress?" Sophie couldn't wait.
"I'll arrange for a designer to come and make a custom dress," Nathan said.
"Custom? Not from the store?" Sophie was puzzled.
"Custom means making clothes according to your needs, just like my suits," Nathan patiently explained.
"So that's what custom-made means," Ryan added from the side.
"Custom-made is better than store-bought, right?" Sophie realized.
"In most cases, yes," Nathan nodded.
"Then I want custom-made too," Sophie said happily.
"Alright," Nathan's eyes were full of affection.
At this moment, Ryan suddenly asked, "What will happen to you if Daddy and Mommy get married?"
Nathan was taken aback by the seemingly illogical question.
Despite its oddness, Nathan grasped the emotion behind Ryan's words.
It was perhaps an unspoken understanding that only the two of them could share.
To everyone else, Nick and Caroline's wedding had nothing to do with Nathan, but to Ryan, it meant a lot. Even Nathan couldn't quite describe the emotion.
The sudden question made Nathan's expression tense, and his eyes inadvertently showed a hint of sharpness, scaring Ryan, who thought he had said something wrong.
Actually, Ryan wasn't wrong; the question was just hit a nerve with Nathan.
"Haha, Nathan isn't marrying Mommy, so why would it matter?" Sophie laughed, breaking the awkward atmosphere with her playful laughter.
Her laughter successfully eased the tension for Ryan and broke the subtle atmosphere.
Nathan stood up, his eyes filled with love for them. "Do you want a late-night snack?"
"Yes!" Sophie quickly responded.
Just as Nathan was about to speak, his phone rang with a message showing an intimate photo of a man and a woman.
At that moment, Nathan's face turned cold again.
"Nathan, is something wrong?" Sophie noticed Nathan's sudden coldness and felt uneasy, thinking her desire for food had upset him.
Nathan tried to soften his expression. "Nothing, what do you want to eat?"
"I'm not hungry anymore," Sophie shrank back, whispering, "Eating at night is bad for health, I won't eat."
Nathan's mind was full of thoughts about Caroline, leaving him no time to consider Sophie's feelings, so he took her words at face value.
"Then you two keep playing, I have to go handle something."
Ryan and Sophie obediently responded, "Okay."
Nathan walked to the door, realized he was in loungewear, and turned back to his bedroom to change into his signature black suit.
Sitting in the car, he still felt it wasn't right, so he went back to Nick's room and changed into a more formal white suit.
Meanwhile, Caroline intended to pick up the kids but chose a different route to avoid Joseph noticing the kids' connection to the Kennedy Family.
The Kennedy Family was well-known in Aurora City, and the fewer people knew about the kids' connection to the Kennedys, the safer the kids would be.
With no other choice, she had Joseph drop her off at Sarah's house, but Sarah was at a class reunion, and the house was empty.
"Do you live here?" Joseph looked up at the neighborhood.
"Yes."
"Aren't you going to invite me up for a cup of coffee?" Joseph suggested.
