Chapter 116
"Then you go to the other side and stay with John."
A hint of embarrassment flashed across Roxanne's face; her goal was clearly to share a room with Nathan.
The cabin had only three rooms: one for Caroline and her two children, one for John and Nathan, and the last one for the remaining team members and the captives.
With Roxanne's arrival, the best solution should have been for her to stay with Caroline.
However, Sophie disagreed, so Roxanne had to settle for switching with Nathan.
Despite her reluctance, Roxanne compromised.
As she stepped into the cabin, she was greeted by the sight of extremely simple leaf beds, which were unbearable for a superstar like Roxanne.
So, she slipped back out.
"What's wrong now?" Nathan frowned slightly.
"Aren't there any sheets?" Roxanne asked.
Everyone exchanged glances, mocking, 'Do you think this is a five-star hotel?'
Nathan was speechless and simply ignored her.
An hour later, Sawyer's breathing became stable, but he was still unconscious.
Nathan felt a sense of relief.
Although Sawyer was not Nathan's biological child, Nathan had been there for him as he grew up.
Sawyer possessed an androgynous beauty and, like Caroline, had exceptional acting talent, so Nathan had devoted himself to nurturing him.
In Nathan's heart, Sawyer was like his own child. When he saw Sawyer collapse and his life hanging by a thread, it felt as if his world was falling apart.
At this moment, he sat beside Sawyer, watching Ryan carefully wipe Sawyer's body with a foul-smelling potion.
"Can this medicine detoxify him?" Nathan asked.
Ryan nodded confidently. "Yes, this is Silvermoon Herb. It can detoxify many poisons, but I'm not sure how effective it is against this snake venom. However, combined with White Deadnettle, it should work since they have similar properties."
Nathan nodded silently.
"But Silvermoon Herb is toxic itself and can't be used in excess. No more than twice a day; otherwise, it will add new poison instead of detoxifying, which would be dangerous," Ryan added.
"So far, it seems to be working," John agreed.
Nathan gazed at Ryan with tenderness, his love nearly palpable.
"Just focus on treating him; don't worry about the consequences. I've got your back," Nathan promised.
Ryan shook his head firmly. "No, I practice medicine, so the responsibility is mine."
Such a young boy, yet so responsible!
"Then I'll share the responsibility with you. You're just a kid; saving lives is an adult's duty. You're helping us," Nathan insisted.
Ryan looked at Nathan and nodded slightly.
Nathan nodded in agreement.
John, standing nearby, felt dizzy from their synchronized nodding, finding it both amusing and exasperating.
"His breathing is more stable. It looks like Sawyer is about to wake up," John said.
Not far away, Roxanne was eavesdropping behind the cabin. Hearing this, she was shocked.
Sawyer's condition was all because of her. If he woke up, wouldn't the truth come out?
Sawyer must not wake up, or all her efforts would be in vain!
Inside the cabin, Ryan shook his head. "Not so fast. This medicine can't be used again today. We'll see tomorrow. If we're lucky, he might wake up tonight. Fingers crossed."
Ryan's maturity made John admire him, thinking, 'How wonderful it would be to have a son like him!'
"Don't worry, Sawyer will wake up," Nathan comforted.
At this moment, Sophie ran over. "Mommy is sick!"
"What happened?" Nathan asked.
"I'm not sure, but she's sick!" Sophie replied.
Nathan walked over to Caroline. "Are you feeling unwell?"
Caroline sat upright, seemingly fine, except for a slight flush on her cheeks.
"What's wrong?" Nathan asked with concern.
"It's nothing," Caroline replied softly.
"Why did Sophie say you're sick?" Nathan frowned.
"Sophie is just talking nonsense. I'm not sick," Caroline shrugged reluctantly.
Nathan noticed something was off with Caroline. "Tell me directly if you're not feeling well."
"I'm really fine. You go ahead with what you're doing; don't worry about me," Caroline said.
"Come here," Nathan gestured to Sophie.
Sophie, fearing Nathan, followed obediently.
"What's wrong with your mommy?" Nathan stared at Sophie.
Sophie scratched her head awkwardly. "I can't really say."
"Then why did you say she was sick? You weren't just making it up, were you?"
"Of course not. I just saw Mommy scratching herself a lot," Sophie explained.
"Scratching herself?"
"Yes, like this." Sophie clumsily mimicked Caroline's actions.
Nathan observed for a moment and seemed to understand. "She's itchy?"
"Maybe. Mommy is very uncomfortable," Sophie answered.
Nathan suddenly realized that after living in the dense forest for several days, Caroline hadn't changed clothes or bathed, so it was understandable that she felt uncomfortable.
"Go and call her over," Nathan instructed Sophie.
Sophie hopped over. "Mommy, Nathan is looking for you!"
"What did he say?" Caroline frowned.
"I don't know," Sophie said innocently.
Caroline walked over slowly, a slight smile on her lips. "What do you need?"
Nathan's stern face showed a hint of displeasure.
"What is it?" she continued to ask.
"Come with me," Nathan said, taking a long stride forward.
Caroline didn't follow immediately, thinking, 'Do you think I'll just obediently follow you? I'm not your personal servant.'
Noticing that Caroline hadn't moved, Nathan stopped and turned to her.
"Where to?" Caroline stood her ground.
Nathan walked back and grabbed Caroline's arm without a word. "Let's go!"
Roxanne, who was secretly watching, felt a sense of glee. Did you think Nathan would treat you gently?
"Let go!" Caroline tried to break free but to no avail.
Nathan's grip was strong, causing her fingers to ache. After several failed attempts to struggle, she had no choice but to follow Nathan.
Ryan and Sophie watched in confusion.
"Are Nathan and Mommy fighting?" Sophie tugged at Ryan's shirt.
Ryan frowned. "I don't think so. Nathan doesn't seem like the type to hit women."
"Then what are they doing?" Sophie asked, puzzled.
Ryan shook his head. "I don't know. What did Nathan say to you earlier?"
Sophie thought for a moment. "He asked what was wrong with Mommy."
"And then?"
"I just mimicked her actions," Sophie said, waving her arms to recreate the scene.
"Got it," Ryan understood immediately. After all, they were twins and naturally had a good understanding of each other.
"What do you get?" Sophie asked.
