Chapter 70

"Watch your mouth!" Sarah snapped.

"Hang out with scumbags, and what does that make you?" Roxanne sneered.

Out of nowhere, Sarah handed the lunchbox to Caroline.

Caroline was taken aback, thinking, 'Am I supposed to eat her leftovers after Roxanne kicked my lunchbox?'

"I'm full," Caroline said coolly.

"I'm not asking you to eat it!" Sarah shot back, sounding urgent.

Caroline got the hint, a sly grin spreading across her face. "Just wait, Roxanne."

With a flick of her wrist, Caroline dumped the leftover food and the lunchbox right onto Roxanne's face.

Roxanne let out a piercing scream.

Seeing things go south, Sarah bolted, yelling, "William, there's a fight over here!"

Everyone rushed over, stunned by the scene.

Caroline was covered in grease and looked a mess; Roxanne was even worse, with food all over her hair and face, screaming frantically.

William, barely holding back his laughter, asked, "Roxanne, you okay?"

"Call the cops and have that wretch Demi arrested!" Roxanne croaked.

"What's going on here? Such a waste of food!" Sawyer chimed in, pretending to be serious but clearly teasing.

Ignoring Roxanne, he walked straight to Caroline. "You're a mess; go change."

"Demi, don't leave! William, call the cops and arrest her now!" Roxanne kept shouting, not ready to let it go.

William looked conflicted and was about to dial the police.

He didn't really want to, but Roxanne's status and the escalating situation pressured him.

Sawyer stopped him just in time. "What are you doing?"

"Calling the cops," William replied.

"Over this?" Sawyer asked, incredulous.

William hesitated.

"Do you really think the police have time for two women throwing lunchboxes and getting greasy?" Sawyer retorted.

William was speechless; he didn't want to call the cops anyway.

"Think about it. If the lead actress and the second female lead get into a fight and it involves the police, won't that be embarrassing if it gets out?" Sawyer continued, seeing William's hesitation. "Even if you don't care, I do. If my fans find out I'm in such a chaotic crew, they'll be disappointed. Bad news spreads fast. One piece of bad news can outweigh ten good ones. If it affects the show's sales and promotion, who'll take responsibility?"

Sawyer, despite his youth, knew the entertainment industry's ins and outs. His words were spot on.

Given Sawyer's superstar status, William didn't dare to disobey.

In truth, William didn't want to blow things up; calling the cops was a last resort.

Roxanne also realized she had overreacted. After all, she had started it, and pushing it further would implicate her too.

"Since Sawyer says so, I won't call the cops," Roxanne said, finding an excuse.

Sawyer didn't even acknowledge her, turning to Caroline and taking her arm. "Go change and wash up."

Roxanne was livid but helpless. "William, fine, don't call the cops, but she has to apologize to me in front of the whole crew, or this isn't over!"

William looked stressed and could only say, "Don't worry, Roxanne, I'll take care of it."

Meanwhile, Caroline had changed her clothes, washed her face, and reapplied her makeup.

"Caroline, you were too impulsive," Sarah scolded from the side.

"You signaled me to fight back with the lunchbox, and now you're saying I was impulsive?" Caroline shot back, a hint of laughter in her voice.

Sarah stifled a laugh. "I told you to fight back, but I didn't tell you to smash it in her face. She really looks pitiful."

Just as Caroline was about to respond, her phone rang.

"It's Ryan and Sophie's teacher, I have to take this," Caroline signaled Sarah to be quiet.

After the call, Caroline looked serious.

Sarah asked, "What's wrong? Is there a problem with Ryan and Sophie?"

Caroline replied, "The teacher said Ryan and Sophie refuse to eat."

Sarah was puzzled. "That's the best kindergarten in Aurora City, with meals supervised by professional nutritionists. The food must be better than at home. Why won't they eat?"

"The teacher said Ryan and Sophie are very downcast. They're twins, with strong telepathy. When one is unhappy, the other is affected, especially now that both are feeling low," Caroline explained.

Sarah asked, "How could this happen? Why are they suddenly so sad they can't eat?"

Caroline sighed, "It must be because of Nathan. They saw the news about his worsening condition and have been worried. I didn't let them visit Nathan, so naturally, they're upset."

Sarah suddenly understood. "I almost forgot. Ryan and Sophie are kind-hearted and have always been concerned about Nathan."

"So what should we do now?" Caroline asked Sarah.

Sarah suggested, "Ryan and Sophie are too young and fragile. We can't let them keep worrying. We need to find a way for them to see Nathan."

Caroline's heart was in turmoil.

Personally, she didn't want to agree.

However, thinking of Ryan and Sophie's hopeful eyes, Caroline felt her heart softened. Over the years, she and her kids had depended on each other. The word "father" was just a vague and distant concept to Ryan and Sophie because paternal love was always absent in their family.

Then, Nathan appeared, with his similar looks, undeniable presence, and substantial wealth; he seemed to instantly build the ideal father figure for Ryan and Sophie, filling that long-missing void of fatherly love.

The sudden fatherly love, like warm sunshine, shined Ryan and Sophie's world, giving them an unprecedented sense of security and warmth. Naturally, they cherished the fatherly love and feared losing it.

But just as things were getting better, the news of Nathan's serious illness came unexpectedly. Though young, Ryan and Sophie understood the seriousness of the situation, and the fear of loss quietly spread in their minds.

Gaining and then losing was more painful than never having, and for the young kids, it was a huge blow.

As a mother, how could Caroline not have emphasized?

After much deliberation, Caroline finally made up her mind. "Alright, let them see Nathan."

"But you have to go with them," Sarah suggested.

Caroline refused, "Me? How is that possible? You know the grudge between Nathan and me! We can't stand each other. Letting Ryan and Sophie see him is already a big compromise!"

"If you don't go, Ryan and Sophie won't go alone," Sarah insisted.

Caroline looked at her in confusion. "Why do you say that?"
