Chapter 157
At this moment, Olivia, the highly educated star, walked over after finishing in the makeup room.
The tall and handsome man in front of her immediately caught Olivia's attention. She thought, "Wow, this guy is so handsome!"
His rugged masculinity was complemented by an innate nobility. His demeanor alone made it clear he was a privileged gentleman from a wealthy background.
Olivia had never met Nathan, but she had seen photos of him online.
Knowing Nathan was the main investor, Olivia assumed he had arrived. This legendary figure was someone she definitely wanted to impress.
But she pretended not to know him and asked Caroline, "Ms. Murphy, is this your husband? Aren't you going to introduce us?"
Already annoyed with Nick, Caroline snapped, "He's Nick, not my husband. I barely know him."
Nick was speechless. They already had two kids, and she claimed she wasn't familiar with him?
"So it's Mr. Kennedy. I'm Olivia, nice to meet you."
Olivia assumed her reputation as a highly educated star would make Nick recognize her, hoping he'd say, "You're Olivia?"
However, Nick had just returned from Stellaria and wasn't familiar with the entertainment industry. Her educated star persona was a recent development, and Nick genuinely didn't know her.
Even if he had heard her name, he wouldn't have remembered. His focus was entirely on Caroline, leaving little room for interest in other female stars. So Nick's reaction was very indifferent; he just glanced at her and then continued looking at Caroline, which made Olivia very hurt.
Despite her disappointment, Olivia kept smiling. She then bent down to Sophie and Ryan, exclaiming, "Wow, they are so beautiful. I've never seen such lovely children!"
Though her tone was exaggerated, it was true—Ryan and Sophie were undeniably stunning.
"Hello, pretty lady." Sophie was very happy to be praised for her beauty and said in a sweet voice.
"Well, thank you, sweetheart! Being called a pretty lady makes my day. What's your name?" Olivia naturally started playing with the kids, effectively easing the awkwardness of being ignored by Nick. Her high emotional intelligence, befitting a graduate student, shone through.
"My name is Sophie, and he's my brother Ryan. He's a genius, and so am I," Sophie said confidently.
Caroline shot Sophie a glare. That habit of being overly familiar with strangers hadn't changed one bit. It was their first meeting, and she was already bragging. Caroline was at a loss for words!
Olivia was genuinely amused. She had never met such entertaining children before.
Seeing Olivia playing with the kids, Nick finally started to notice her.
"Honey, why don't you invite your colleague to join us for dinner?" Nick said to Caroline.
"We still have to shoot. Don't cause trouble here. Take the kids and go," Caroline said, frowning.
"No more shooting. Since you have something to do, we'll shoot another day," William quickly said.
All the staff were stunned. Before Nick arrived, William had been yelling at everyone to speed up the shooting progress and that no one was allowed to leave before midnight.
Now William had completely changed his tune.
"William." Caroline wanted to say something, but William waved his hand, "Go ahead, don't worry. I was planning to wrap up early today anyway."
Caroline thought, 'You're so opportunistic. Before Nick arrived, you were rushing us. Now that he's here, you drop everything. Can you be consistent for once?'
"Honey, William's made up his mind. Let's go. You don't need to change clothes; you look stunning in this outfit," Nick urged.
"Even if we don't shoot, I'm not going," Caroline said.
William was stunned and thought, ' "T hen why did I give everyone a break? Nick will definitely blame me for delaying his date because of the shoot.'
Then he quickly persuaded, "Go ahead, Demi. Mr. Kennedy came all this way to take you to dinner. If you don't go, I'll feel really bad."
"Exactly," Nick echoed.
"His food is poisoned; I can't eat it. Besides, how is it 'all the way here'? He just came from downtown to the studio." Caroline snapped.
"I really did come from far away. As soon as I got back from Stellaria, I came to find you."
"Where did you say you came from?" Caroline asked in disbelief.
"Stellaria."
"You're lying. Last night you were still with me." Caroline cut herself off. Those things couldn't be said in public.
Ryan also got anxious upon hearing this. He thought, 'This is bad, the secret's about to get out! This conversation can't continue!'
Caroline felt that if she kept arguing with Nick, the crew would see them as a joke, so she followed Nick out.
As soon as they stepped outside, a BMW pulled up. Joseph, tall and dressed in a suit, stepped out with a bouquet of flowers. He looked like a typical handsome professional, but his face was bruised and swollen from a recent beating.
Caroline felt a surge of distress. It was because of him she had been stranded in the middle of nowhere.
Caroline wondered how he had found her and who had tipped him off about her filming location. She had a vague sense of a conspiracy.
Joseph looked up and saw Caroline, then immediately noticed Nick beside her.
He stopped in his tracks. He had been beaten badly last night and was still scared. Seeing Nick made him nervous.
Nick also saw the man with the flowers, but he didn't recognize him.
With so many beautiful actresses on set, it wasn't uncommon for handsome men to visit with flowers.
So he assumed it was a boyfriend of another actress and didn't pay much attention.
Nick just glanced at him and then looked away.
Caroline saw Joseph stop and felt relieved. As long as he didn't come over and cause a scene, she didn't know what she would do if another conflict arose.
At that moment, Joseph's phone rang. After answering it, he looked very downcast and somewhat panicked.
But then he suddenly walked briskly towards Caroline and Nick. Caroline was already getting into the car when he called out loudly, "Carol!"
Nick thought, 'Who dared to address her so intimately in front of him?'
"Who is that? Is he calling you?" Nick looked at Caroline.
Caroline thought, "What are you up to? You just beat him up, and now you're pretending not to know him?'"
"Didn't I tell you, he..." Caroline was cut off as Joseph approached and handed her the flowers. "Carol, these are for you."
Caroline didn't take them. "No, thanks. You shouldn't come around anymore; I don't want any misunderstandings."
Of course, she said this for Nick's benefit. She was worried him would get violent again.
"Carol, I'm serious about you. Please accept them. Flowers for a beautiful lady."
"Wait a minute!" Nick came over and looked at Joseph. "What makes you think you can call her Carol? Just because you're good-looking, you think you can flirt with my dear? I gave her 999 roses, and she didn't care. You think one bouquet makes you special?"
Joseph didn't dare look Nick in the eye, fearing another punch. His legs trembled slightly, but he had to do this to explain himself.
"Speak up, who are you? What's your relationship with my dear?" Nick continued to press.
Joseph didn't dare to speak, his hands holding the flowers were shaking.
"Dear, who is he?" Nick looked at Caroline.
Caroline didn't know how to act anymore. Nick was doing this on purpose, pretending not to know who Joseph was after beating him up.
"Alright, let's go," Caroline said impatiently.
"No, explain it before we go! You're my dear, and he's bringing flowers to visit you. There's definitely something wrong." Nick insisted.
Joseph was puzzled and thought, 'Did he lose his memory? He was ruthless when he beat me, and now he's pretending not to know me. Is he afraid I'll hold him accountable?'
