Chapter 132
In Ryan and Sophie's eyes, Caroline was crying because she was worried they would have to move to the Kennedy Family.
Even the brightest children struggle to grasp the intricate complexities of the adult world
Seeing Caroline's red-rimmed eyes, Nathan also felt a bit helpless.
He believed he hadn't said anything to hurt Caroline; he was just stating the facts, all for the safety of the children.
Nathan knew that luck wouldn't always be on their side, and they couldn't always find the children every time.
"Mom, don't cry. Dad, you're bullying Mom," Sawyer couldn't stand it anymore and pointed at Nathan angrily.
"Stop it," Nick signaled to Sawyer.
"Dad is bad!" Sawyer continued to glare at Nathan.
"You're just making things worse!" No matter how Nick tried to stop him, Sawyer wouldn't listen.
"Nick, as the father of the children, what's your opinion?" Nathan's cold gaze turned to Nick.
"I..." Nick looked at Nathan, then at Caroline, feeling very conflicted.
Deep down, he naturally hoped the children would live with the Kennedy Family. But seeing Caroline's teary eyes, he softened. He thought that if he sided with Nathan, it would seem like they were ganging up on Caroline.
"Do you really want your own children to face danger again?" Nathan asked coldly.
"Of course not. Caroline, why don't you reconsider?"
"Shut up!" Caroline shot back.
She was originally just feeling sad and wronged, but when Nick spoke, she felt the Kennedy Family was teaming up to pressure her. Her sadness and grievance instantly turned into anger.
"I gave birth to them and raised them alone. Where was the Kennedy Family then? Did you contribute money or effort? Now that the children are grown, you want to take them away? Just because you have money and power, you think you can bully a defenseless woman like me?" Caroline lashed out.
Nathan sighed deeply, realizing the conversation was at an impasse.
"Then we'll see you in court. If the judge thinks you're more suitable to raise the children, then the custody will be yours," Nathan stood up.
Caroline glared but said nothing more.
The Kennedy Family had immense power in Aurora City, and once it went to court, Caroline knew she had no chance of winning. He was threatening her!
"The children are mine; you have no right to interfere!" Caroline continued to fight back.
Nathan's face turned grim as the words deeply hurt him. He stopped talking, glaring at Nick, and signaled Sawyer to leave with him.
"Dad is bad; I'm not going!" Sawyer also resisted him.
Nathan's face grew even darker, feeling like everyone was against him.
He wanted to take Sawyer back overnight, partly to handle company affairs and partly to get Sawyer treated as soon as possible.
"Go back for treatment!" he said coldly to Sawyer.
"You're bad; you're bullying Mom!" Sawyer glared at him.
Nathan grabbed Sawyer and shouted, "Let's go!"
Normally, Sawyer was very afraid of Nathan and hardly dared to talk back.
But now, Sawyer's mind was unclear, and his intelligence seemed to have reverted to a child's level; he didn't care who the other person was.
So, when Nathan tried to pull him, he clung tightly to the chair, confronting Nathan.
Such a group of good-looking customers pulling at each other in public left the waitstaff dumbfounded.
Such handsome people, fighting at the table?
Nathan felt like he was about to explode with anger; it was so humiliating!
"Fine, do whatever you want!" He let go of Sawyer, his face livid. His good intentions were met with everyone's opposition!
"Hmph!" Sawyer snorted behind him.
Caroline quickly signaled to Nick, hoping he could persuade Sawyer. She knew Nathan wanted to get Sawyer into treatment and believed it was the best chance for his recovery. Unable to intervene directly, she relied on Nick to mediate.
However, Nick, having been rebuffed by Caroline earlier, didn't understand her intention.
"Nathan, you go ahead. Sawyer can stay with us," Nick completely misunderstood Caroline's intention!
Caroline was both angry and anxious. What a fool!
"Are you going to find someone to treat him yourself?" Caroline questioned Nick.
"Didn't Nathan already arrange it?" Nick looked confused.
"Then persuade him to go!" Caroline said angrily.
This time, Nick finally understood Caroline's intention!
"Sawyer, you should go with Nathan. Let him take you to the doctor!" Nick started to persuade Sawyer.
But Sawyer still wouldn't listen. "Hmph, fake dad!"
Great, now there was a bad dad and a fake dad, neither of whom were good or trustworthy!
Nick looked at Caroline helplessly, as if to say, "I've tried my best, but there's nothing more I can do!"
Seeing no other option, Caroline realized she had to step in herself. Then she got up and walked over. "Sawyer, you need to go with him. He'll help you heal, and once you're better, we'll have so much fun together," Caroline said, her voice soft and soothing.
"I don't want to!" Sawyer pouted stubbornly.
"Be good, and go quickly. Otherwise, your head will feel so heavy tomorrow, like it's being weighed down by clouds. You won't even remember to eat your favorite ice cream, and you won't sleep well. How uncomfortable would that be?" Caroline coaxed gently.
Sawyer frowned, looking a bit confused.
"Don't dawdle. He'll take you on a flying carpet, and in no time, you'll be back, and we'll all have a great time with Sophie and Ryan," Caroline continued to persuade.
Sawyer still hesitated.
"If you don't get treatment, a little lazy worm might sneak into your head," Caroline said mysteriously, picking up a fork. "It'll grow into a big monster, and boom, your head will explode like fireworks!"
Hearing this, Sawyer was so scared that he quickly covered his head, as if the little lazy worm was already stirring.
"Don't be afraid. Go and get the little lazy worm out, and you'll be a lively little superhero again," Caroline felt relieved as her plan succeeded.
Nathan, listening on the side, frowned. Her scare tactics were too strong! Was this her usual method? For a moment, he couldn't help but picture a worm wriggling in his brain—a terrifying thought!
"Alright," Sawyer finally surrendered.
Nathan felt relieved.
