Chapter 141

She stepped into Ryan and Sophie's room. Ryan was supervising Sophie doing sit-ups, clearly to burn off her excess energy.

"Nick said he found a new school. He'll take you there tomorrow," Caroline announced.

Sophie cheered. "That's great! We can go to school again!"

"Was it Dad who called, or Nathan?" Ryan suddenly asked.

"It was Nick. Why are you asking?" Caroline was puzzled.

"Nothing." Ryan hesitated, remembering his promise to Nathan not to reveal the secret.

Although he didn't understand why Nathan was pretending to be Nick, Ryan instinctively felt that Nathan meant no harm and decided to go along with it.

"Are you hiding something from me?" Caroline's eyes were full of inquiry.

No matter how smart Ryan was, he couldn't hide his thoughts. Caroline could easily see through him.

"No," Ryan quickly denied.

"Are you sure?" Caroline pressed.

"Yes," Ryan shook his head vigorously, silently thinking, 'It's Nathan who's hiding something, not me!'

"Alright, go wash up and get to bed. You have school tomorrow."

The next morning, Nathan drove to Sarah's place and used Nick's phone to contact Caroline.

Caroline saw the time and realized breakfast wasn't ready yet. "Ryan and Sophie haven't had breakfast yet. Please wait a moment."

Nathan checked his watch and realized he was indeed early. He got out of the car and walked towards the stairs.

The door opened, and Caroline was a bit surprised. "I told you to wait downstairs. Why did you come up?"

Nathan was speechless, feeling an inexplicable annoyance.

He was always the one making others wait, never the other way around.

"Have you eaten?" Caroline asked casually.

"No."

"Then join us for a bit."

On the table were Caroline's homemade spaghetti and fried eggs. As Nathan sat down, Caroline changed her mind. "Forget it. There's none for you. You can eat out later."

Nathan pointed to a bowl nearby. "Isn't that extra?"

"That's mine," Caroline said.

Nathan said nothing, picked up the bowl, and started eating.

Despite her many flaws, her cooking was indeed good.

"Mom, you can have my portion," Ryan said softly, clearly recognizing that the person in front of him was Nathan.

He could tell with just one look. He knew the subtle differences in the eyes between Nick and Nathan.

Many times, he and Nathan could communicate with just a glance, but not with Nick.

This deep understanding was hard to describe.

Seeing this, Caroline just glared at Nathan. She toasted a piece of bread for herself, got a glass of milk, and quietly enjoyed it on the side.

Nathan silently ate the spaghetti, finding it surprisingly delicious. It turned out that even simple food could bring such delight.

"Dad, is it good?" Sophie came over.

Nathan nodded. "It's very good."

"Then can Mom make it for you every day?" Sophie asked innocently.

Nathan was taken aback and looked at Caroline. She, with bread in her mouth, glared at him. "No way!"

Nathan didn't argue, continuing to eat the spaghetti, thinking, 'Even if you made this spaghetti every day, I might not always want it. What's there to be proud of?'

Nathan finished the soup, sipping it slowly as if savoring a rare delicacy.

Caroline frowned, feeling exhausted by his meticulousness.

"Can you drink faster? I need to leave soon. At your pace, you won't finish by noon. Or do you want to wash the dishes?" Caroline urged.

At the mention of washing dishes, Nathan quickly put down the bowl. He had no idea how to do that. "I'm done."

"Finish it. If you don't, you'll wash the dishes. Stop pretending!" Caroline was displeased.

Caught between a rock and a hard place, Nathan was at a loss.

"Mom, don't make it hard for Dad. I'll wash the dishes," Ryan couldn't stand it anymore.

Nathan gave Ryan a grateful look. Ryan discreetly winked, and Nathan understood, winking back.

Caroline noticed and thought, 'What kind of game are these two playing now?'

The new school was part of the Kennedy Corp's education group, specifically the kindergarten division.

Nathan, dressed in a white suit, drove a luxury car. Occasionally, he glanced at Caroline beside him through the rearview mirror, realizing she hadn't noticed his true identity. A strange sense of satisfaction filled him.

As a high-profile business elite, Nathan shouldn't care about such trivial matters. But with Caroline, he found himself unusually particular, even surprising himself.

"I love it when Daddy takes us to school!" Sophie cheered from her car seat.

Caroline pressed her lips together, feeling uneasy.

"Daddy is very busy. He doesn't need to take us every day," Ryan said with a maturity beyond his years.

Although Ryan didn't understand why Nathan was pretending to be Daddy, he knew Nathan was extremely busy.

Nathan, who managed big businesses, couldn't be distracted by taking them to school.

Nathan's approving glance swept over Ryan, thinking, 'This kid really gets me.'

"Who asked him to? He insisted on coming," Caroline said indifferently, with a hint of disdain.

Nathan couldn't be bothered to argue. After all, Caroline was right.

The school had been informed of Ryan and Sophie's enrollment. The principal and teachers were waiting at the gate, a grand reception that surprised Nathan.

Surrounded by the crowd, Nathan felt more worried than pleased. He believed a school should be a sanctuary for learning, not an extension of the social scene, and that teachers are there to educate, not to pander.

Thus, he maintained a stern expression, merely nodding to the staff and firmly stating, "Ryan and Sophie are equal to other students and should receive the same education."

"Absolutely," the principal quickly promised.
