Chapter 153

Finally, the car came to a halt.

Nathan got out of the car, ignoring Caroline, and turned to walk back.

Caroline was puzzled but didn't have time to dwell on it. She quickly got into the car, buckled up, gripped the handle tightly, and silently vowed, "This time, no matter what, I won't get out of the car!"

Nathan returned to the car, holding her high heels, and threw them at her.

"Thanks, and sorry for the bother," Caroline said hurriedly, catching the shoes despite her disheveled state.

Nathan was stunned. She could still say thank you after he had tormented her like this?

She was utterly hypocritical!

He couldn't afford to be soft-hearted, especially not towards such a promiscuous woman!

Recalling the scene in the BMW, Nathan's anger erupted like a volcano, uncontrollable.

Caroline saw his face harden and quickly went quiet, clutching the handle tightly, afraid she might be thrown out any second."Joseph was my deskmate back in high school."

Deskmate! No wonder!

Nathan gritted his teeth, his anger intensifying.

Caroline realized she had touched a nerve and quickly shut her mouth, but she also knew she needed to explain herself or face serious consequences. "I really have nothing with him. He transferred out after only a year in our class."

To Nathan, it sounded as if, given more time, things might have turned out differently.

Did she regret not seizing the opportunity back then? Or did she want to make up for it tonight?

Once prejudice had taken hold, any words or actions could be misinterpreted.

Caroline intended to clear everything up, but it backfired. To Nathan, it seemed more like an excuse, even a provocation.

"Get out of the car!" Nathan lashed out.

Caroline's worst nightmare had come true!

"No!" she cried, gripping the handle tightly.

"Get out of the car!" Nathan repeated it angrily.

"I won't get out, not even if I die!" Caroline responded firmly.

"You don't deserve to be partof the Kennedy Family, let alone the mother of the Kennedy children. You would only corrupt them. Get out of my sight, leave this city, and don't ever come back!"

Nathan's anger was so intense that he nearly let slip his true identity.Usually sharp, Caroline might have noticed something was off, but at this moment, she was full of fear, just wanting to stay in the car to save her life.

She didn't dare to explain further or defend her actions.

"I was wrong. Please don't make me get out of the car," Caroline cried, tears streaming down her face. You saw it yourself. If you hadn't shown up in time, I might have already... You can't leave me."

Caroline's heart-wrenching cries, a blend of truth and lies, left Nathan momentarily stunned.

The anger within him seemed to gradually dissipate with her cries. Could tears really extinguish anger?

He even felt a pang of guilt. It was clearly her fault, so why did it feel like he was the one being unreasonable?

The engine roared, and the car started again, giving Caroline a slight sense of relief.

Her tense emotions relaxed a bit, the sadness subsided, replaced by a rising anger.

She thought, 'You bastard, you almost left me stranded in the middle of nowhere. I'll never forgive you for this!'

Nathan noticed the sobbing next to him had quieted. When he glanced over and saw a glint of malice in her eyes, he realized her tears were just an act.

Had he fallen into her trap again? This woman had betrayed him first and then played the victim when faced with the consequences. He had been duped by her!

Caroline sensed his gaze and immediately put on a pitiful look. After all, they hadn't reached the city yet. Revenge could wait.

"Not crying anymore?" Nathan asked coldly.

"Everything tonight was a misunderstanding. I hope you don't mind," Caroline replied softly.

"Really? You call doing those unspeakable things with that man in the car a misunderstanding?"

"Please believe me," Caroline pleaded, tears welling up again. If one crying scene wasn't enough, she'd cry all the way to the city if necessary.
