Chapter 35
"Mr. Kennedy's got this huge company to run, so he's always swamped. Catching him is like trying to catch smoke," Sarah said, trying to explain to Ryan and Sophie why introducing Nathan to Caroline was such a hassle.
Ryan and Sophie both went quiet, deep in thought. Ryan propped his chin on his hand, and Sophie copied him. Their cuteness almost made Sarah's heart melt.
"Why not just give him a call?" Ryan suggested.
Sarah shook her head, looking a bit awkward. "I don't have his number. He's a big deal, and his private number isn't something just anyone can get."
"How about calling his company?" Ryan tried again.
"You mean making an appointment through his office? That's even tougher. Even people who know him have to book in advance. We don't know him, so it's even harder," Sarah replied.
Ryan frowned, and Sophie scratched her head.
None of their ideas seemed to work. What were they supposed to do?
"Let's just wait for him at the entrance," Ryan proposed another plan.
Sarah shook her head again, "That's even worse. He doesn't have a regular schedule like normal employees, so we have no clue when he'll be in or out. Plus, security would probably kick us out."
Ryan frowned even more, and Sophie mimicked his frown, looking frustrated.
"This isn't urgent. Mr. Kennedy's also an investor in the show your mom's acting in, so he sometimes visits the set. How about this? I'll ask the director when he's coming next, and then I'll take you to meet him directly. With your looks, I'm sure Mr. Kennedy will like you. What others can't achieve, you definitely can," Sarah suggested.
Ryan and Sophie nodded.
"What are you guys talking about?" Caroline walked in at that moment.
Ryan and Sophie looked at Sarah, signaling her to keep it a secret.
"Nothing much, Ryan and Sophie were just telling me about their experiences abroad. We were having a great chat," Sarah responded.
"Really? Then why do they look so nervous?" Caroline, being their mom, could naturally tell when her kids were acting strange.
Sarah answered, "They're not nervous. We were having a great time. Ryan and Sophie are so well-behaved."
"It's time to study. After studying, it's bedtime," Caroline told the kids.
As soon as Caroline spoke, Ryan and Sophie each went to their rooms to study.
Sarah motioned for Caroline to sit down, ready to have a chat with her.
Sarah asked, "Hey, don't you have any plans to find a boyfriend? Are you planning to stay single forever?"
"Aren't you single too?" Caroline shot back.
Sarah replied, "It's different for me. I have people chasing after me; I just have high standards and haven't agreed to anyone yet."
Caroline wasn't convinced, "So you're saying no one is interested in me?"
Sarah waved her hand. "That's not what I mean. I mean, it's not easy raising two kids on your own. Why not find a guy to help out? It would be easier."
Caroline shook her head. "I don't want to find a stepfather for my kids that they don't like. My kids are my life; they're the most important."
Sarah offered, "Then finding someone they like would be perfect, like Mr. Kennedy."
Caroline almost spat out the water she had just drunk. "Mr. Kennedy? He's so annoying. I don't want anything to do with him!"
Sarah was curious. "Mr. Kennedy is the dream guy for a lot of women in Aurora City, and you call him annoying?"
Caroline insisted, "He is annoying! And he doesn't talk much. Just looking at him irritates me. And don't forget, he's Roxanne's boyfriend! How could I possibly be with him? Are you joking?"
Sarah immediately realized how unrealistic the idea was.
