Chapter 16

Roxanne was about to lose it. She had this whole plan to use Nathan to boot Caroline out, but she never thought he'd actually give Caroline the second female lead role.

Roxanne couldn't wrap her head around how her plan backfired, but Caroline, sharp as a tack, figured it out.

"Thanks a bunch! If you hadn't begged for me, I probably wouldn't have gotten this shot. I knew you'd come through for me," Caroline said to Roxanne with a sugary smile.

"Get lost!" Roxanne snapped, fuming.

"Feeling frustrated? Tried to use Nathan to squash me? Too bad Nathan didn't bite. Regretting it now?" Caroline stayed cool, still smiling.

The calmer Caroline was, the more Roxanne felt like she was gonna blow a gasket.

"Bitch." Roxanne raised her hand, ready to slap Caroline.

"Want to hit me? Go ahead, hit me. Record the big star bullying a regular actress," Caroline signaled to Sarah.

Sarah, right on cue, raised her phone, ready to record.

Roxanne lowered her hand, shaking with rage.

Bianca, being the sensible one, realized Caroline wasn't someone to mess with. If this kept up, Roxanne would definitely fall into her trap and do something stupid. So she quickly stepped in, "We have other plans; let's go."

"I can't let this go, I have to hit her!" Roxanne was still relentless.

"Come on, it's just a second female lead, why get worked up over her? It's not worth it."

Roxanne thought about it and agreed, thinking, 'She's the second female lead. I'm the first. I'll have plenty of chances to deal with her on set.'

With Bianca's calming words, Roxanne finally left the audition site.

Meanwhile, Nathan's car was heading to the Kennedy Corp headquarters for an important meeting with partners.

Nathan sat in the back seat, eyes closed, replaying the earlier scene in his mind. When Caroline expressed her doubts to him, they were really close. Then he caught a faint whiff of orange blossom. It was the most unforgettable scent in his memory.

That night, in the dark club, he had hooked up with a woman and smelled that same orange blossom scent. Later, he found out the woman was Roxanne, so he made her his nominal girlfriend. But he never smelled that fresh scent from her again.

Years flew by, and he almost forgot that scent, but today, he smelled it again.

Nathan was lost in thought when he was interrupted by a phone sound from the front.

Jack, sitting in the passenger seat, was watching a video on his phone. Nathan opened his eyes and glanced over, noticing Jack was watching Caroline's audition video.

"Hand it over." Nathan, who had been silent all this time, finally spoke. His voice was deep and magnetic, really pleasant to hear.

Jack realized the sound from his phone had disturbed Nathan's rest and looked terrified. "I'm sorry."

"Hand it over," Nathan repeated.

Jack had no choice but to pass the phone.

In the video, Caroline's eyes were filled with sorrow, exuding a huge, silent sadness. Even watching the video again, one would still be moved by her performance.

Nathan seemed to smell that faint orange blossom scent again, thinking, 'Unfortunately, she's an actress who'll do anything to get ahead. To get the role, she's even willing to sleep with men. What a shame.'

With that thought, Nathan felt a bit irritated. He rolled down the car window and tossed the phone out.

"My phone," Jack exclaimed. He looked at Nathan's cold expression and relented. "It's fine, I'll just get another one. It deserved to be thrown."
