Chapter 49
"First, we gotta meet someone, then we'll check into a hotel and game all night!" Sawyer said.
"You must be wiped from the long flight. How about you crash at home, and we can hang out tomorrow morning?" Caroline suggested kindly.
"No way, we haven't seen each other in forever. You gotta have some fun with me. If you ditch me and go home, what kind of friendship is that?" Sawyer complained.
"You know I hit you up 'cause you're loaded and generous. Friendship? I don't really get it," Caroline said bluntly.
"So, since you took my money, you gotta listen to me. If you wanna go home, pay me back right now!" Sawyer insisted.
"Don't be like that. It's just a few thousand bucks. When I get rich, I'll shower you with cash!" Caroline retorted.
"Get rich first, then talk! And you owe way more than just a few thousand. There's a promissory note for fifty grand, and the amount without a note isn't any less!" Sawyer corrected.
"Are you kidding? These days, even with a promissory note, people might not pay back. Without one, who would admit to owing money? Are you stupid?" Caroline replied disdainfully.
"Are you trying to dodge your debt?" Sawyer said angrily.
"Don't talk nonsense! Watch out, or I'll beat you up! This is called legal debt avoidance! I borrowed the money with my own skills; paying it back easily would be truly stupid!" Caroline retorted defiantly.
Sawyer laughed, "You're something else! I won't argue with you. In short, either pay me back or hang out with me."
Despite the argument, Caroline felt grateful to Sawyer.
Living in a foreign country had been tough for her, and without Sawyer's help, she didn't know how she would have gotten through that low period.
So, while it seemed like she was forced to pick him up, she actually did it willingly. She always felt grateful to Sawyer.
"Let's find a place to eat, I'll treat you, and then we can have a couple of drinks. Tomorrow, we can meet up to play games. How does that sound?" Caroline suggested gently.
"Alright, but I need to meet someone first," Sawyer agreed.
"Is it someone important? Your girlfriend? Why do you need to see her first?" Caroline asked curiously.
"If I had a girlfriend, would I be hanging out with a woman like you?" Sawyer joked.
Caroline raised her hand and lightly tapped Sawyer on the head.
"Say that again, I dare you!" Caroline retorted angrily.
"You hit me again!" Sawyer whined, "I'm a top-tier celebrity!"
Caroline thought back to the airport scene. "By the way, are you really a superstar?"
"You're so out of touch. You don't know I trend twice a week? Before I went abroad, any random post I made would easily make it to the trending list. Even artists who appeared with me, no matter their gender, would get a popularity boost!" Sawyer bragged.
"Are you really that popular? I don't follow the entertainment industry much. Besides, aren't those trending charts all bought with money? Anyone willing to spend can get on them. What's the big deal?" Caroline asked dismissively.
"I'm different from them. I'm a natural focal point; I don't need to spend money to trend. Do you know why? Because I'm good-looking." Sawyer said confidently.
Caroline had to agree on that point.
Nowadays, many guys dressed as women, but most did it for attention or criticism. Sawyer was different; he dressed stylishly and appropriately, which made people feel pleased.
Sawyer could create rumors with both men and women, which naturally made him a topic of conversation.
"If you're so popular back home, why did you come abroad?"
"I was kicked out. Someone said I was just a trending star with no real skills and told me to go out and improve my acting," Sawyer explained.
"Who said that?" Caroline grew more curious.
"The scariest person in the world," Sawyer responded with lingering fear.
Caroline's curiosity grew. "Who is it? Your parents? Or your grandparents?"
Sawyer didn't want to continue this topic. "Let's not talk about it. It's just a scary person."
Before the conversation could continue, the car stopped in front of an old estate.
This was the oldest estate in Aurora City, which had gone through many changes before being acquired by the Kennedy Family and named "Elegant Mountain Estate."
It was said that this place was in the best location in Aurora City, and those who lived here were either rich or noble, belonging to the prosperous families of Aurora City.
Caroline was unaware of this and, looking at the old estate, thought Sawyer's family was just average.
"Wait here for me. I'll be quick. If you dare leave, we're done, and I'll sue you for the debt tomorrow," Sawyer warned.
Caroline pouted, feeling disdainful but still nodded.
Sawyer got out of the car and quickly walked towards Elegant Mountain Estate.
