Chapter 53
"I thought you weren't that kind of person!" Caroline sneered.
"Seriously? I busted my butt to get you a role, took care of your kids, and this is what I get?" Sarah yelled back.
"You're the one who's all about the money!" Caroline shot back.
Ryan and Sophie heard the shouting and rushed in to calm things down.
"Mom, you got it wrong. Sarah didn't set this up," Sophie said.
Caroline snapped, "Sarah, really? Even Ryan and Sophie are defending you now? Do you think I'm stupid? If it wasn't your doing, how did Nathan meet Ryan and Sophie?"
"Caroline, you're such an idiot," Sarah fumed, letting the insults fly.
"Swearing in front of the kids? That's too much!" Caroline scolded.
Caroline's words made Sarah realize she was out of line. Swearing in front of Ryan and Sophie was never okay.
"Ryan, Sophie, go outside. I need to talk to your mom alone," Sarah instructed.
"Stop fighting, can't you just talk it out? It's embarrassing," Sophie advised.
Her words hit home, and both Caroline and Sarah went quiet.
"Mom, you misunderstood Sarah. We met Nathan at the psychology clinic; it had nothing to do with her," Sophie explained.
Ryan nodded in agreement.
Caroline trusted Ryan the most. He was calm, rational, and thoughtful, way more mature than his age. If he said something, it was usually right.
"Did I really get it wrong?" Caroline looked at Sarah.
Sarah turned her head away, ignoring Caroline.
"It's just that you took Ryan and Sophie to shoot an ad without telling me before, so I suspected you this time. If I was wrong, I'm sorry," Caroline apologized.
"Sarah, please forgive my mom. You two are good friends, and good friends don't hold grudges," Sophie pleaded again.
Ryan nodded too.
"Who's her good friend? She can't tell right from wrong and is unreasonable," Sarah grumbled, but her anger was cooling off.
"I was wrong, but Sarah, think about it. If no one arranged it, how could Nathan just happen to be there?" Caroline said.
"Now that you mention it, it does seem weird," Sarah nodded.
Ryan agreed, nodding repeatedly, looking adorable.
"But Nathan bought us gifts! He's a good guy," Sophie defended Nathan.
"Nathan even bought gifts? Sarah, do you still think it was a coincidence?" Caroline pressed.
"Right, could someone really have set this up? Who could it be?" Sarah was puzzled.
Caroline guessed, "It must be someone from the clinic."
Sarah replied, "But the doctor was recommended by the police. She shouldn't be a bad person."
"I didn't say the doctor was bad. She must have noticed that Ryan and Sophie look like Nathan, and since she knows Nathan, she told him. Nathan has so many beautiful women around him, he might be worried that having kids out there would cause trouble, so he wants to find out," Caroline analyzed.
"Aren't you thinking too badly of Nathan?" Sarah frowned.
"Nathan is involved with someone like Roxanne. How good can he be?" Caroline retorted.
"Alright, go on," Sarah found it reasonable.
Caroline continued, "Then Nathan will definitely try to take my kids. I can't let him take my kids."
Sarah shook her head. "You're overthinking it. I don't think it's that serious."
Caroline wasn't backing down. "It's probably more serious than you think! Nathan is so famous in Aurora City. If he tries to take my kids, how can I compete with him?"
"But you need some kind of proof. Why would Mr. Kennedy take your kids? Unless he's their father, why would he even care? He's not a human trafficker," Sarah pointed out.
Sophie chimed in excitedly, "So Nathan really is our dad, that's awesome!"
"Why are you so happy? What's so great about Nathan?" Caroline asked, confused.
"Nathan is handsome and rich, what's not to like?" Sophie whispered back.
Caroline was momentarily speechless, then turned to Sarah. "This is all your fault. You taught Sophie to be so materialistic!"
"How can you blame me? I think Sophie is right. Mr. Kennedy is handsome and rich. Why shouldn't she like him?" Sarah shot back.
"Anyway, I won't let Nathan see my kids again. I will never allow him to have any contact with them!" Caroline insisted firmly.
Sophie was anxious. If Nathan couldn't see them, his plan to take them out for a big meal would be ruined.
Two days later, at exactly 8 AM, the set of "Thunder 2" was buzzing with activity.
Today, not only the actors with scenes were present, but many without scenes, especially the actresses, also showed up. They weren't just there to watch; they were waiting for a big reveal.
The night before, William had posted in the crew's Facebook group: [The male lead, who had never shown his face, would officially appear this morning.]
Rumors that the male lead was a superstar had been circulating for a while, but he had never been seen, keeping everyone curious and eager. Now, with the mystery about to be revealed, everyone naturally gathered early, eager to see the superstar in person.
In the makeup room, Roxanne was getting her makeup done, while Megan stood quietly by.
"Roxanne, I've figured it out. The reason Demi always looks so good is that she uses her own makeup. If we want to mess with her, we need a different plan," Megan whispered.
Roxanne responded coldly, "So what's your plan?"
"I'm not smart enough to come up with a good one. So, I need you to think of something. I really hate Demi, I want her to suffer a bit!" Megan said, full of grievance.
"Are you saying I spend my days thinking about how to mess with her?" Roxanne asked, her tone icy.
"I wouldn't dare, I didn't mean that, Roxanne," Megan quickly explained.
"Then what do you mean? Let me tell you, I have no personal grudge against Demi. The only reason I want to teach her a lesson is to stand up for you. If it weren't for her, the role of the second female lead should have been yours," Roxanne stated bluntly, her expression calm.
"I know you're looking out for me. Anyway, whatever you say, I'll do," Megan fawned.
"Are you familiar with the costume staff in the crew?" Roxanne changed the topic.
"I'm not very familiar with them," Megan admitted. For a young and beautiful actress like Megan, she usually flattered the powerful and fawned over the high-ranking, but she didn't even bother to look at the ordinary staff, let alone be familiar with them.
"Do you have any scenes today?" Roxanne asked.
