Chapter 67

"Yeah," Nathan mumbled.

"Anything else you need from me?" Harper asked.

"Nope," Nathan said, getting up to leave.

"Hold on," Harper stopped him, making him pause.

Nathan glanced at Harper, his eyes full of questions.

"I'm a psychologist. You're here for help, right? You need therapy. If you just walk out, how am I supposed to bill you?" Harper asked.

"I'll pay in full," Nathan said firmly.

"That's not fair. You didn't say anything, and I didn't do anything. Charging you would be a rip-off. Sit down, let's chat," Harper was curious. What could make Nathan, the usually unshakeable tycoon, look so down?

Usually, people only looked like that when they lost someone close. But there hadn't been any news about deaths in the Kennedy Family, so what was it?

But the other option seemed even less likely. Nathan had never shown interest in anyone, so how could he be heartbroken?

Nathan sat back down.

Harper was one of the few people he trusted enough to open up to.

People in high positions might look glamorous, but they carried a ton of pressure. Every decision they made could make or break their company, keeping them constantly stressed.

External pressures might be avoidable, but the weight of responsibility was always there.

So, Nathan needed psychological counseling too, just like other normal people. Talking to experts like Harper gave him some mental relief.

That was why he was here.

"Alright, spill it. What's going on?" Harper tried to dig deeper.

"Nothing," Nathan's reply was super short.

"Nathan, I'm your senior psychologist. Do you really think you can fool me with that? It's an insult to my profession," Harper raised an eyebrow.

Nathan stayed quiet.

Harper got even more curious. What could have Nathan in such a weird state?

"Is it a company issue?" she asked.

Nathan shook his head. "No."

"Family problems?" Harper tried again.

"No," Nathan's answer was a bit hesitant this time.

Harper was almost sure it was something personal.

But she knew if she kept pushing, Nathan wouldn't answer.

Not only would he not answer, but he'd also shut Harper out completely.

His secrets would stay hidden unless he chose to share them.

Harper tried to persuade him, "You can talk to me, and I'll do my best to help. You're in a high position, and your employees are all over the world. Their jobs and lives depend on you being stable. If your company hits a crisis, it won't just affect the shareholders but also thousands of regular workers. They need you to be healthy to keep their jobs secure."

After her long speech, Nathan just said, "That's nonsense."

Harper was fuming and stood up. "Are you questioning my professionalism? You think I'm talking nonsense?"

Nathan stayed calm, taking Harper's anger in stride.

"Fine, I won't say anything. Just tell me what's going on," Harper huffed.

"A scent," Nathan said, then went quiet.

"What?" Harper was confused.

"Is it possible to be obsessed with a scent?" Nathan finally clarified.

Harper was still puzzled. What was he getting at?

"Obsessed with a scent?" she asked.

Nathan nodded slightly.

Harper couldn't help but laugh, "You mean you're obsessed with a scent?"

Nathan's face darkened. Realizing her mistake, Harper quickly got serious. She shouldn't have laughed at his question.

"Usually, liking a scent is instinctual. There's a theory that females are attracted to the scent of males with different genes, which might be what you mean by being obsessed with a scent. But you're a guy, so theoretically, this shouldn't affect you," Harper explained, trying to keep a straight face.

She wanted to laugh, but Nathan's cold expression stopped her.

She didn't dare to anger Nathan. If she did, her psychology clinic could be ruined in an instant.

Nathan stayed silent.

Harper continued, "From another angle, you might be in love with everything about someone. It's not instinct; it's because you're so focused on them that you remember their unique scent. Others might not notice it, but you do because you care so much. This fits you better. But the problem is, you always say you don't like anyone. How could you be obsessed with someone's scent?"

After saying that, Harper felt puzzled herself.

Nathan didn't speak, quietly processing Harper's words.

Was he in love with someone and thus obsessed with everything about them, including their scent?

How could that be? That unique scent belonged to Caroline, and he found her so repulsive. How could he like her?

It was absurd!

"That's baloney," Nathan said coldly, hitting Harper right in the heart.

For the first time, Nathan felt Harper's professionalism was in question. Her words seemed too far-fetched.

Harper was about to burst out in anger.

As the top psychologist in Aurora City, who worked closely with the police, she had never been treated with such disdain.

Many dignitaries received her counseling, and no one dared to question her professionalism, let alone call her words baloney.

"You're avoiding the truth because you don't want to face it," Harper retorted.

Nathan stayed silent, thinking it wasn't even worth arguing.

He stood up, turned his heels towards the door..

Harper called after him, "Nathan, trust me. If you're obsessed with a woman's scent, you must like her! I remember you mentioned that woman. If you like her, why not go after her instead of suppressing yourself?"
