Chapter 175

An hour later, Caroline arrived at the headquarters of the Kennedy Corp.

Jack called her and said that Nathan wanted to see her.

Caroline naturally didn't want to see the cold Nathan, but there was no choice. Nathan was the big investor in the show. Because of her, the crew had stopped working again, and the negative impact was not small. She felt she should go and explain.

But in reality, Nathan must already know the ins and outs of the matter. He just wanted to make things difficult for her. She did have some responsibility for this, so even if he made things difficult, she could only endure it.

After all, to resolve this storm, she had to rely on Nathan. Only he had the capability.

When one was in a weak position, compromising and showing weakness was common.

Jack personally came downstairs to greet her, still smiling. "Ms. Rockefeller, this way please."

This assistant was smart enough to still call her by her alias in front of outsiders, but directly by her real name in private. This move made Caroline feel a bit closer, as if he was one of her own.

Jack knew very well that although there were many twists and turns, this unbelievably beautiful young actress in front of him might very well become a member of the Kennedy family in the future. This was a person with high potential value, and he should still try to please her.

Swiping the card to enter the executive elevator, Caroline frowned deeply, wondering what to say when she saw Nathan.

Jack observed her expression without showing it, "Ms. Rockefeller, Mr. Kennedy asked you to come to explain the disturbance in the crew. You don't need to worry too much. This matter must have been caused by someone else, not your fault."

Caroline could tell that Nathan might be using this as an excuse to make things difficult. So she asked directly, "What does he really mean?"

The elevator quickly ascended and soon reached Nathan's office. Time was tight, so Caroline asked directly.

"I don't know either, but he is very concerned about Ryan and Sophie, worried that they might be harmed in this matter," Jack replied.

Caroline instantly understood his meaning. Nathan must be trying to take the opportunity to take the children, thinking that if Caroline couldn't protect herself, she couldn't protect the children either.

At this moment, her phone rang. It was Sarah calling.

"Carol, the security guard in the community said that many people are gathering downstairs at our house, seemingly wanting to block you. Don't come back today, it's not safe," Sarah said.

Unexpectedly, those people even knew Sarah's address. Who leaked this information?

"I know." Caroline felt even heavier.

"Don't worry too much, this will pass soon. You can stay in a hotel for now, or go stay at the Kennedy Manor. By the way, didn't Nick want to give you a villa? Perfect timing."

"Shut up!" Caroline said irritably.

"Refusing a villa, you're the biggest fool in the world. How did I end up knowing someone as stupid as you?" Sarah retorted immediately.

"You're smart, but you can't get married!"

"Did you get married?"

Caroline hung up the phone, not in the mood to bicker with Sarah anymore.

Nathan was in a meeting, and Caroline waited in the office for two hours.

Feeling restless, Caroline kept drinking the coffee brought by the secretary, drinking five cups in a row.

Drinking too much always led to needing the bathroom, and Caroline started frequently running to the restroom.

Her stunning appearance amazed the passing company employees, some of whom took out their phones to compare and confirm that she was the woman trending with Sawyer and Nick.

A female employee mustered up the courage to approach Caroline shyly. "Can I take a photo with you? We all like you and admire your courage."

What courage? The courage to get dragged online or just to eat barbecue?

"Seriously?" Caroline murmured.

"Of course, you face the camera without fear and handle malicious fans' attacks with composure. You're our role model," the female employee said excitedly.

Caroline liked hearing this. Just for this sentence, she had to take a photo.

So she reached out and put her arm around the female employee's shoulder, letting her take a selfie.

"Can you sign an autograph for me?" the female employee continued.

Caroline was amused. Signing autographs seemed like something only celebrities did, right? She was just an ordinary actress.

"No need, I'm not famous," Caroline smiled wryly.

"No, you have many fans now. We all follow you. You're beautiful and brave, definitely our idol," the female employee said firmly.

Just for this sentence, she had to sign!

"Alright, where should I sign?" Caroline took the notebook and wrote "Demi."

It was her first time signing for someone, and the writing indeed looked a bit ugly. Caroline hesitated and rewrote it.

But at this moment, the female employee suddenly grabbed the notebook and ran away.

Caroline was stunned. What was going on?

Then she noticed the other employees quickening their pace to leave, as if they had seen a ghost.

She realized something was wrong and turned to see Nathan standing there with a cold expression.

"I..." Caroline's lips moved, not knowing what to say.

"Do you really think you're a star?" Nathan said coldly, with obvious disdain in his eyes.

"I'm not."

Nathan turned and walked towards the office.

Caroline sighed, jogged a few steps, and followed Nathan into the office.

"She came to me for a photo." Caroline tried to explain but was cut off by Nathan waving his hand. He didn't want to discuss this boring topic anymore.

He pressed the call button on the desk, and the secretary brought two cups of coffee, one for Nathan and one for Caroline.

Caroline didn't dare to drink anymore, worried that drinking more would keep her awake for two days.

"William said the shutdown would last at least three days, with a daily loss of over $800,000, totaling $2.4 million," Nathan said coldly.

Hearing this number, Caroline felt a chill down her spine.

Was he going to make her pay?

"Are you going to transfer the money or pay in cash?" Nathan's sharp gaze fixed on Caroline.

"I don't have money."

Nathan was stunned. This answer was unexpected.

But it seemed reasonable. Having no money was the best excuse.

"Playing tricks? The Kennedy Corp's legal team is top-notch, ready to sue you anytime," Nathan said coldly.

Caroline smiled. This tactic really didn't work on her.

"Suing me is useless. When executing the judgment, you'll find I have no house, no car, no assets. How will you execute it? Send me to jail? That would greatly affect the children's future. You wouldn't do that."

Nathan was furious.

She was so calm, acting like a rogue!

But what she said was true.
