Chapter 151

"No, thank you," Caroline replied curtly, not even offering an excuse.

"It's been years since we last met. Let's sit down for some coffee and chat. It's still early. If going to your place is inconvenient, we can find another spot," Joseph persisted.

"I really can't. I have something to do and need to leave now." Caroline tried to open the car door, only to find it locked by Joseph.

"What are you doing? Let me out!" Caroline was getting anxious.

"Carol, don't be in such a hurry. Let's talk. Haven't you thought about me even once all these years?" Joseph pressed.

"No," Caroline's answer was brief and to the point.

"How is that possible? We clearly liked each other back then."

"Joseph, get real. We were just classmates, not even friends. Where did you get the idea that we liked each other?"

"Carol, you may not admit it, but that's not the truth. Everyone knew we were a perfect match, envied by all. They thought we were meant to be together."

"Enough. Those were just misunderstandings. What others think is their business. I never saw it that way. Even if there was something, it's been so many years. What's the point of holding onto the past?"

"Forgetting the past means losing a part of yourself."

"Then I'd rather lose myself. Unlock the door and let me out!" Caroline was already impatient and increasingly disgusted by Joseph's behavior.

"Carol, don't be like this. You're making me very sad. I've been looking for you all these years. I asked around for your whereabouts, but it was like you vanished. When I heard you reappeared, I organized this reunion just to see you. I want you to know that no matter how much time passes or how many people come and go, you will always be the girl I hold dear in my heart. I'm still waiting for you."

Joseph's heartfelt words seemed to move himself, but Caroline remained calm.

She had heard too many sweet words. While flattery might add a touch of charm to life, it could never meet the demands of reality."

Men who excelled at sweet talk could only offer illusions, not the stability and prosperity needed for real life.

Some might choose to lose themselves in dreams, yearning for poetry and distant places, but most—especially women with children—had to confront the everyday realities of life.

Clearly, Caroline belonged to the latter group.

Therefore, such seemingly touching words only appeared childish and boring to her.

"Even if what you say is true, I'm no longer the person I used to be. So your waiting is meaningless. We each have our own life paths, and there's no possibility of intersecting again. Now open the door, or I'll call the police," Caroline said coldly.

"Carol, how can you treat me like this? Weren't we good before?"

"I don't remember ever getting along well with you. If we did, it must have been a youthful misunderstanding. Are you going to open the door or not? If not, I'm really going to call the police!"Caroline said as she took out her phone, ready to dial 911.

Seeing this, Joseph hurriedly reached out to grab the phone. "Carol, don't call the police. I mean no harm."

Caroline wouldn't let him succeed, and the two began to struggle in the confined space.

The car shook due to their tussle, and parked in a dimly lit corner, the scene appeared quite eerie.

Nathan, dressed in a white suit, drove up and witnessed the scene, unpleasant thoughts flashing through his mind.

He was familiar with the shaking BMW because he had received photos with a clear license plate.

The sight of the car shaking irregularly made him furious.

Nathan exuded a bone-chilling coldness and a murderous aura.

He couldn't remember the last time he had been this furious. At this moment, his mind was consumed with thoughts of destruction

He got out of the car and walked step by step towards the BMW.

Just as Caroline and Joseph were entangled, someone knocked on the car window.

Though it was dark inside the car, the white suit outside was particularly striking.

"My husband is here. If you don't let me go, he might smash your car." Before she finished speaking, there was a loud cracking sound from the car window.

Nathan was repeatedly smashing the car window with a car fire extinguisher, scaring Caroline out of her wits.

"Stop smashing! I'll open the door!" Joseph unlocked the door and got out, only to be met with a pair of furious eyes.

"Who are you?" Joseph asked fearfully.

Then, a heavy punch landed on his face so suddenly that Joseph nearly fell.

Before he could steady himself, a second punch followed, making him lose his balance.

As he struggled to stand, a kick landed on his chest, knocking him to the ground, leaving him in a sorry state.

Caroline's heart skipped a beat.

Nick was usually playful and mischievous, known as a playboy. But now, he exuded a terrifying aura, like the Grim Reaper descending.

She was so nervous that her teeth were chattering, fearing that he might harm Joseph, as the anger emanating from him was almost tangible.

"Who are you, and why are you hitting me?" Joseph struggled to get up and questioned.

But before he could stand, he was kicked to the ground again, left with only resentment and cries of pain.

Not far away, in a black Jeep, security chief John and another bodyguard exchanged glances, dumbfounded.

"They're fighting. Should we go help?" the bodyguard asked.

John snorted. "The other guy is already down. What help? Are you stupid?"

"But how is Mr. Nathan Kennedy so good at fighting?" the bodyguard asked in awe. "His skills are no worse than ours, the professional bodyguards."

"Are you blind? That's Mr. Nick Kennedy!"

"Really? But didn't we just send Mr. Nick Kennedy off at the airport?"

"The one in the white suit is Mr. Nick Kennedy. The one in the black suit is Mr. Nathan Kennedy. Didn't you pay attention during orientation?" John's voice was icy.

"But he clearly looks like Mr. Nathan Kennedy."

"Didn't you see the white suit? The one in white is Mr. Nick Kennedy!" John sounded impatient.

"Do you recognize people just by the color of their clothes?" The bodyguard seemed to have an epiphany.
