Chapter 160
"In high school, we liked each other and dated for a while. Then my parents had to move for work, so I left Aurora City. But we stayed in touch," Joseph said.
Joseph calmed down. The man with the cold demeanor only wanted to ask about his relationship with Caroline and had no intention of hurting him. This reassured Joseph; he could make up anything as long as it wasn't too outrageous.
"So you're pursuing her now? Trying to rekindle the old flame?" John asked.
"No, we've always kept in touch. We still love each other."
John glanced at Nathan's back, unsure if he should continue questioning. He felt that the vibe was a bit off.
"So what exactly is your relationship now?" John pressed on, despite his reluctance.
"Of course, we're a couple. Of course, we're a couple. We'd do anything for each other. But recently, she told me a wealthy man is pursuing her. She finds him annoying but feels powerless because he's so influential."
A cup on the table suddenly fell to the ground, shattering.
John could tell Nathan was angry and started hitting Joseph again, making Joseph scream in exaggerated pain.
But inwardly, he was pleased. His goal was within reach. Completing his task would resolve his family's crisis.
At this moment, Nathan waved his hand, stopping John.
Then Joseph was dragged out, leaving only John and the silent Nathan in the room.
"Should I just kick this guy out of Aurora City? Out of sight, out of mind, right?" John asked tentatively.
There was no response, indicating that John's suggestion was not approved.
Nathan stood up, poured the wine from the cup into a glass, turned around, and handed it to John. "Good job."
It was good wine, and it was a reward from Nathan, so John had to drink it.
He tilted his head back and drank it. "Thank you, Mr. Nathan Kennedy."
"Keep this to yourself. It concerns the Kennedy Family's reputation," Nathan said coldly.
"Understood, Mr. Nathan Kennedy."
Nathan strode out of the room, his face icy.
Without Nathan's instructions, John didn't know what to do next.
He didn't quite understand. Nathan rarely concerned himself with such trivial matters. Why was he personally involved this time, taking time out of his busy schedule?
For such a small matter, John could easily make Joseph disappear from Aurora City with just one order.
But Nathan didn't give such an order. What was he thinking?
At the Kennedy Manor, Nick frowned after listening to the recording about Joseph. "Nathan, is this recording accurate?"
Nathan's face grew colder. "Do you think I would fake it to deceive you?"
"I mean, is it possible that this guy is lying?" Nick said.
Nathan's mind flashed to the shaking BMW, and he felt a wave of disgust. "That guy wasn't lying. They've been together all along."
Nathan originally wanted to say, "They've been having an affair," but he held back, not wanting to use such harsh words and hurt Nick.
Nick looked despondent. He thought, 'So this is why Caroline wouldn't marry him?'
"Nathan, I don't get it.. How's he better than me?Why would she choose him?" Nick said dejectedly.
"He's nothing compared to you. Don't sell yourself short,"Nathan said coldly.
Nathan felt this matter insulted not only Nick but also himself and even the Kennedy Family. Caroline's behavior was irresponsible to her children. He kept the burning anger inside him, unable to speak of it.
"Nathan, what should we do about this?" Nick looked at Nathan.
Nathan stayed silent, forcing Nick to find his own solution.
"I can't give up. I have to beat that guy with the BMW. Otherwise, it's too shameful. How can I lose to someone like that?" Nick muttered to himself.
Nathan still didn't speak.
A Kennedy needing to compete for a woman's hand? Ridiculous!
"Give her up," Nathan said coldly.
"No, she's the mother of my children," Nick refused.
"Just get custody," Nathan felt a wave of irritation, and his voice grew colder.
"Nathan, how can you say that?"
"Do you really think she's fit to be their mother? What kind of upbringing could she offer?" Nathan was visibly annoyed.
The Kennedy Family was doing fine until Caroline came along and turned everything upside down.
"Nathan, I don't think Caroline is bad. Even if she likes that guy, what's wrong with that? Can't she like another man?"
Nathan was stunned. He thought, 'Even now, he is still defending her? And what he said makes sense.'
"A woman being ambiguous with multiple men at the same time, and that's not a problem?" Nathan stared at Nick.
