Chapter 33
The next day's shoot went off without a hitch, which was a shocker.
Caroline was on edge, keeping an eye out for any funny business from Megan and Roxanne. But weirdly enough, they didn't mess with her and just did their thing.
What surprised her even more was that William told her she had way more scenes now, basically making her the leading lady. What he didn't spill was that this was all Nathan's doing.
After they wrapped up, she hopped into Sarah's car like usual. Neither of them noticed the dude on a motorcycle tailing them, helmet and all.
When they got home, the living room was a disaster zone thanks to Sophie, while Ryan was, as always, glued to his computer in the study.
Caroline was ticked off. "Sophie, why'd you trash Sarah's place? Didn't you promise you'd behave?"
"Mommy, I did it on purpose," Sophie said, eyes twinkling.
Caroline's anger flared. "You did it on purpose?"
Sarah jumped in, "Hey, it's just a mess. We'll clean it up. Don't be too hard on her."
Sophie explained, "I was home with Ryan, and he's always busy with his computer. I got so bored that I messed things up just to have something to do. I was gonna clean it up, but you came back before I could finish, so it looks worse than it is."
Caroline felt a twinge of guilt, thinking about how bored the kids must've been stuck at home.
"Sarah's already talking to the school. It should be sorted out soon. Once it is, you can go to school and won't have to stay home all the time," Caroline said, trying to comfort Sophie. Just then, Ryan bolted out of the study, grabbed Sophie's hand, and dragged her back in.
Ryan and Sophie always had their little secrets, and Caroline didn't bother to pry.
Inside the study, they climbed onto a chair to check out the computer. On the screen was a photo Ryan had found online.
The guy in the photo was sitting on a sofa, dressed in black, with cold eyes staring at the camera.
Seeing the man, Sophie instinctively touched her face and then looked at Ryan's face.
"He looks just like us," Sophie said, wide-eyed.
Ryan nodded seriously.
"Who is he? Is he our dad?" Sophie was so excited she almost fell off the chair.
Ryan shook his head and pointed to the headline of the online news article: [Nathan Kennedy's Ambition in Aurora City.]
"His name is Nathan Kennedy. We don't have the same last name. He's not our dad," Sophie said, bummed out.
Ryan frowned. Something about Sophie's logic didn't sit right with him, but he couldn't put his finger on it.
After a moment of disappointment, Sophie's eyes lit up again. "I have an idea!"
Ryan looked at her, waiting for her to spill.
Sophie grinned, "He's not our dad, but we can introduce him to Mommy as a boyfriend. He looks like us, so Mommy will definitely like him!"
Ryan frowned even more. "Do you know him?"
Sophie shook her head, eyes wide and innocent.
"Then how do we introduce him?" Ryan asked.
Sophie was stumped, thinking, 'Yeah, we don't know him. How can we introduce him to Mommy as a boyfriend?'
