Chapter 95

Nathan's silence made it clear he didn't want to talk anymore. Jack had no choice but to take the instructions and head out on his search again.

Whether Jack would find it or not was still up in the air.

Nathan went back to looking through the documents. Jack cleaned up the profiles on the desk and slipped out of the office quietly.

After Jack left, Nathan looked up, lost in thought for a bit.

It wasn't his best choice to replace Caroline because he could foresee this show would be legendary.

Popular shows were a dime a dozen, but classics? Those were rare.

Creating a classic would be a huge boost to the reputation and brand value of the entertainment company.

Some companies churned out tons of stuff, but none of it managed to leave a lasting impression.

So, Nathan was all in on this project, bringing Sawyer on board to make something truly memorable.

It would also take Sawyer, who loved acting, to the next level.

Nathan couldn't stand Caroline's personal morals, even though she was a great actress.

She wasn't just trying to marry into the Kennedy Family for perks; she was also trying to seduce Sawyer.

If that got out, the Kennedy Family's reputation as the top family in Aurora City would be trashed.

Family reputation was way more important than a show, so Nathan had to replace her.

Once he found the right person, he'd kick Caroline out of Aurora City without a second thought.

Nathan got up and paced around the office a bit. Then, he called Nick.

"Hey, Nathan," Nick answered right away.

Nathan asked, "Have you been picking up Ryan and Sophie from school lately?"

Nick said, "Yeah, why?"

Nathan replied, "I'll pick up Ryan and Sophie from school today."

"You're gonna pick them up yourself? You're so busy, why do that?" Nick was shocked.

Nathan didn't explain and just hung up.

After the call, Nathan sped up his work to make time to pick up Ryan and Sophie himself.

No matter what, keeping Ryan and Sophie away from Caroline wasn't fair to them.

Nathan hoped Ryan and Sophie would get used to Elegant Mountain Estate quickly, so they wouldn't feel lonely or feel strange to that place when it counted.

At five in the afternoon, Nathan showed up right on time outside the kindergarten.

The socialites who usually tried to cozy up to Nick were surprised to see "Nick" acting like an iceberg today.

He didn't respond to any conversations, didn't even glance at anyone, just stood there, eyes straight ahead, giving off a cold vibe.

Even though this kindergarten was part of the Kennedy Corp Education Group, the high-level staff rarely got to interact with someone of Nathan's rank.

In other words, no one recognized Nathan.

They just felt that this man picking up Ryan and Sophie today was different from Nick, and his presence made the atmosphere tense.

As usual, Ryan led Sophie out slowly after all the other kids had left.

At the sight of Ryan and Sophie, Nathan's lips curved into a rare smile.

"Nick!" Sophie's sweet voice was as enthusiastic as ever.

"It's Nathan," Ryan's eyes lit up.

"Is it Nathan?" Sophie asked, looking a bit confused.

"Yeah, Nick doesn't look like this," Ryan said.

"But they look exactly the same," Sophie said, still puzzled.

"To others, you and I look the same too," Ryan explained.

Sophie thought about it for a moment and realized Ryan had a point.

To people who didn't know them well, they were hard to tell apart. But they were different in their own ways.

"Nathan!" Sophie corrected herself.

Nathan stepped forward and opened his arms.

"I wanna ride on your shoulders," Sophie said playfully.

Without a word, Nathan let Sophie climb up, her feet stepping on his expensive custom suit.

"Nathan, why'd you come to pick us up today?" Sophie asked, curious.

"I missed you," Nathan said softly.

Sophie laughed exaggeratedly, leaving Nathan a bit puzzled.

"Nathan, you're like a kid. We just saw you this morning, and you already miss us? If we went abroad, would you cry because you missed us?" Sophie teased.

Nathan asked, "Abroad?"

"Yeah, my mom said if we're not welcome in Aurora City, she'll take us abroad," Sophie explained.

Nathan's heart tightened. Was Caroline planning to flee with the kids?

"Why would you go abroad? Who doesn't welcome you?" Nathan pressed.

"I don't know. My mom said it, and we believe whatever she says," Sophie answered.

"What does your mom think of me?" Nathan suddenly asked, regretting it immediately. Using Ryan and Sophie to gather info wasn't his style.

"My mom says you're very handsome and nice," Sophie replied casually.

This was clearly made up by Sophie; Caroline had never said anything like that.

Hearing this, Nathan felt an inexplicable flutter in his heart, like it skipped a beat.

Nathan took Ryan and Sophie to a restaurant.

Even though Ryan and Sophie were well-behaved, Nathan still felt exhausted. Sophie was always running around. One moment she was in his sight, the next she was gone, making Nathan anxious, fearing she would slip away. Just as he was about to call for help, Sophie suddenly reappeared. She had been distracted by a cute puppy. She watched the dog for a while before rejoining Nathan and Ryan.

Sophie's liveliness was a headache, while Ryan's calmness was equally frustrating! Nathan, already a man of few words, found Ryan even more reticent.

Communication became a major challenge, relying entirely on Sophie; otherwise, they might both be drowned in each other's silence.

Sitting in a whimsical restaurant, Nathan watched Ryan and Sophie eat heartily, feeling a sudden wave of sympathy. Caroline indeed had a tough time raising the kids.

He was already this tired after a short while with the kids; Caroline had been raising Ryan and Sophie alone for years, the hardships were imaginable.

Realizing this unwarranted sympathy, Nathan quickly snapped himself out of it. He reminded himself inwardly, 'I can't think this way; Caroline must have ulterior motives!'

At this moment, Sophie bounced over. "Nathan, why isn't my mom here yet?"

Nathan was taken aback. "She's filming."

"Then I want to call her and tell her where we are, so she can come find us when she's done," Sophie said, taking out her phone.

"Don't do that," Nathan quickly stopped her.

"Why not?" Sophie asked, her big, watery eyes wide open.
