Chapter 119

"I took her out to play," Nathan said flatly.

"A bunch of men are bathing; what's a little girl doing there? If you spoil her like this, will you fetch the stars from the sky for her too?" Caroline grew more agitated as she spoke.

"They're all wearing clothes," Nathan explained.

"That still doesn't work; you can't spoil the child."

"I don't want the stars from the sky!" Sophie suddenly interjected.

"Shut up!" Caroline scolded.

"If she wants them, I'll find a way to get them for her," Nathan responded as if divinely inspired.

Caroline felt a surge of anger; he had no principles when it came to the child!

"She's my daughter; you can't spoil her!" Caroline reasserted her authority.

"A child isn't your personal property," Nathan said indifferently.

"She's not yours either; what right do you have to interfere?" Caroline retorted.

"Nathan didn't do anything wrong; he cares about me!" Sophie defended Nathan again.

Caroline, exasperated, shouted at Sophie, "Then go with him, I don't care about you anymore!"

Hearing this, Sophie's lips quivered, and tears welled up in her eyes. "Mommy, don't be mad. I won't go."

"You scared Sophie!" Nathan's expression grew colder.

"Raising the child is my business; it has nothing to do with you. You're the one causing trouble, it's so annoying!" Caroline shouted at Nathan.

Nathan put Sophie down and gently comforted her, "Sophie, don't be afraid. I'm here."

Caroline grew even more furious; how could she educate the child if he kept opposing her?

"Sophie, come here!" Caroline raised her voice.

Sophie looked fearfully at Nathan, then at Caroline, and finally walked towards Caroline.

"Are you not listening to Mommy anymore?"

Sophie quickly shook her head, tears streaming down.

"Do you think Mommy is wrong? The riverside is full of boys, you're a girl. Mommy has told you before: boys and girls need boundaries, that's called a safe distance, remember?"

"I remember."

"Then why don't you listen to me and instead listen to an outsider?"

"I'm not an outsider!" Nathan couldn't help but interject.

"Shut up! I'm educating the child. Can you go away?" Caroline said sternly.

Nathan felt a surge of anger; how dare she tell him to shut up?

Nathan's gaze was as sharp as a blade. If she weren't a woman, he would have thrown her into the river.

"Mommy, I was wrong. Don't be mad," Sophie said softly.

"Where did you go wrong?" Caroline's anger hadn't subsided.

"I shouldn't have disobeyed Mommy."

"Will you do it again?"

"I won't." Sophie apologized sincerely.

Sophie was very clever; she had realized she was affecting the relationship between Caroline and Nathan. She admitted her mistake, hoping to resolve the conflict.

"Go back to the tent!" Caroline ordered.

Sophie glanced at Nathan and walked towards the tent inside the cabin.

"Your way of educating the child is poor," Nathan commented.

"I've already said, it's none of your business!"

Nathan snorted and walked towards the river.

An impolite woman, not worth dealing with!

Caroline entered the cabin and saw Sophie crying aggrievedly, with Ryan comforting her, "Mommy is not wrong."

"I know Mommy is right, but she scolded me!" Sophie was full of grievances.

"You were indeed wrong," Ryan said firmly.

"Sophie, Mommy was impulsive just now. I'm sorry."

Caroline hugged Sophie, and Sophie cried even harder.

"Mommy, don't abandon me."

"You're my precious baby; how could I abandon you?"

After some comforting, Sophie gradually calmed down.

Caroline also felt tired and lay down for a nap.

Roxanne was pretending to sleep in another cabin. Noticing the quiet outside, she secretly peeked out to observe.

The team members were still busy in the river, and no one was in front of Sawyer's cabin.

Roxanne sneaked out and slipped into Sawyer's room.

Sawyer's face was slightly flushed, and his breathing was steady, but he was still unconscious.

Roxanne picked up the Silvermoon Herb extract and began applying it to Sawyer's body.

She recalled Ryan saying that the Silvermoon Herb worked by using a 'fight fire with fire' approach, as the herb itself was slightly toxic.

In the right dosage, it could expel poison, but in excess, it would deepen the patient's condition.

Ryan also emphasized that it should not be used again until the next morning.

It was still far from morning, and using the herb now would undoubtedly poison Sawyer.

As long as he didn't wake up, the secret wouldn't be revealed, and her act could continue.

Roxanne carefully applied the herb twice on Sawyer and then returned to her cabin.

At this time, Caroline and her children were napping in the cabin, completely unaware of Roxanne's actions.

Nathan watched the fishing for a while by the river and suddenly remembered Sawyer, who was alone. He hurried back.

But he found that Sawyer's face had turned grayish again!

This was a sign of the condition worsening!

"Ryan!" Nathan called out loudly.

The sleeping Ryan was startled awake and hurriedly responded.

"What happened?" Ryan ran over.

"Look at this, what's going on?"

"Why is Sawyer's condition worsening again? He was just getting better!" Ryan was equally panicked.

"How could this happen?" Nathan asked.

"I don't know, he was clearly getting better." Ryan frowned.

"What do we do now?"

Ryan was almost in tears. "He was getting better, but now his condition has worsened. I don't know what to do."

"Ryan, don't cry; it's not your fault. Calm down, we'll think of a solution together!" Nathan comforted.

"We're using poison to counteract poison; we can't add more medicine now, or the poison will spread further. But if we don't reduce the poison, Sawyer might be in danger." Ryan said, tears already falling.

Nathan felt his heart sink but forced himself to stay strong.

His voice remained calm. "Ryan, don't panic. Let's think of a solution with the resources we have; there will be a way."

Nathan's steady demeanor seemed almost magical, and Ryan, who was on the verge of collapse, gradually calmed down.

He lowered his eyes and gently opened Sawyer's eyelids to examine them.

"Let's try leeches again," Ryan suggested.

"Leeches?"

"When Sawyer was first poisoned, it was the leeches that sucked out some of the poison and saved his life. Now that the poison is worsening, maybe using leeches to suck out the poisoned blood again is the only way. Although I'm not sure if it will work, it's the only idea I have."

Nathan nodded silently. He had thought of the same thing earlier but didn't mention it to avoid interrupting Ryan's thoughts. Since Ryan had now suggested it, he naturally agreed.

The forest was full of leeches, and the team quickly caught dozens of them.

Ryan picked up each leech and gently placed them on Sawyer's body.

The originally thin leeches quickly swelled as they sucked Sawyer's blood.

The leeches, now round and fat, presented a horrifying sight.

However, these leeches soon died, showing the severity of the snake venom.

After the leeches had sucked enough blood, Ryan called a stop, fearing that more would cause Sawyer to die from blood loss.

After removing the leeches, Sawyer's face seemed slightly more flushed.

Nathan and Ryan stayed by his side, not daring to leave.

By this time, dinner was ready.

John brought a large piece of fish to Ryan, who shook his head, indicating he had no appetite.

"Eat something, you'll need the energy to cope." Nathan took the fish, carefully removed the bones, and slowly fed it to Ryan.

"Ryan, don't put too much pressure on yourself. If anything happens to Sawyer, it's his fate. You've done your best." Nathan comforted softly.

Ryan's tears flowed uncontrollably.

"Don't cry, be strong. We all believe he'll get better."

"Are you comforting or scaring him?" Caroline's voice carried a hint of accusation.
