Chapter 102

Nathan didn't say a word. Even though he couldn't see her face, he recognized the outfit from "Thunder 2" instantly. It was Demi, no doubt about it.

Nathan was sure this car accident was no coincidence. Demi had set it up and left clues on purpose.

She knew Nathan would catch on. Just from the photo, without even seeing her face, Nathan could tell it was her.

She was sharp and clever, and Nathan couldn't help but admire her silently.

Even though they were on opposite sides, their sharp minds created a weird kind of understanding. One would set the trap, and the other would see right through it—something no one else could pull off.

Thinking about it, Nathan couldn't help but smile a bit. But then, a warning went off in his head: he couldn't let himself get attached to her. She was ruthless and would do anything to get what she wanted. Plus, she was Nick's partner. How could he even think about having feelings for his brother's girl? Guilt and shame hit him hard, and he shut his eyes tight, a flicker of pain crossing his face.

John noticed Nathan acting weird but couldn't figure out why. "Mr. Nathan Kennedy, you okay? Is the long trip getting to you?"

Nathan waved him off, signaling he was fine.

"Mr. Nathan Kennedy, is this aimed at the Kennedy Family, or is it about Mr. Nick Kennedy's wife?" John asked.

"No," Nathan replied coldly.

John was confused but didn't dare to push it.

Luckily, Nathan added, "She's not Mr. Nick Kennedy's wife."

That only made John more confused.

She was clearly Nick's lover; how could she not be his wife?

He still didn't dare to ask.

"Speed up," Nathan ordered.

"Yes, sir."

"Tell the flight team to be ready to go at any moment," Nathan added.

"If you're too tired to drive, we can switch to a plane, but getting domestic flight clearance is a hassle and takes time."

Nathan cut him off with a wave, "No need, just have a helicopter ready at Star Valley."

"Yes, Mr. Nathan Kennedy."

Meanwhile, Caroline was exhausted. She felt like if she kept driving, she might actually cause an accident.

The last car accident was her doing, a setup to get the Kennedy Family's attention. It was a blatant clue; if they couldn't figure it out, then Nathan wasn't as smart as everyone thought.

She pulled over and rested her head on the steering wheel for a quick nap.

Just then, her phone rang, "Why did you stop?"

"I've been driving too long, I can't keep going. If I do, it might be dangerous," Caroline replied.

"Don't you want to see your kids?" the voice on the other end pressured.

"It's because I want to see my kids that I can't risk my life. I need to rest," Caroline shot back.

"What game are you playing? Waiting for someone to rescue you?"

"There's a tracker in the car, and you're tracking my location. How could I play any tricks?" Caroline retorted.

"Keep going. Rest when you get to Star Valley," the voice instructed.

"When can I see my kids?" Caroline asked.

"As long as you comply, you'll see them soon."

The call ended, leaving Caroline no choice but to keep driving.

She was worried the Kennedy Family hadn't started chasing her yet, but also scared they were closing in fast. If the other side figured out her plan, they might go after Ryan and Sophie. But if the Kennedys hesitated in Aurora City, things could get really bad. She was getting close to the border. Once she crossed, it would be even harder for the Kennedy Family to track her.

Two hours later, they hit the Silvercrest border, still 200 miles from Star Valley. Caroline was completely wiped out and needed to rest.

The stress had left her mentally drained, her vision blurry, and she was in bad shape.

She hadn't seen Ryan and Sophie yet; she couldn't afford an accident. She needed to rest.

So, she pulled into a service area, moved to the back seat, and tried to sleep.

She had just closed her eyes when the phone rang again. "Please, let me rest a bit."

"I told you, hold on a bit longer. It's almost dawn; you can stop and rest when it's light. Wait for my instructions."

"If I keep going like this, I'll really have an accident. No matter what you say, I need to rest."

"Alright, stay where you are. A car will pick you up in half an hour. I'll tell you the license plate then," the voice said.

This would make things more complicated. Switching cars again might throw the Kennedy Family off their trail!

But she had no choice but to comply. So she decided to rest first.

Exhausted in both body and mind, she struggled to sleep, only managing to close her eyes for a brief rest, haunted by the faces of Ryan and Sophie.

In a daze, she didn't know how much time had passed when the phone rang again. "Go to the restroom; there's a white Toyota SUV parked nearby. The license plate ends in 327. Don't say a word, just get in the back seat. Don't try any tricks."

Caroline looked through the car window and saw a white Toyota SUV parked near the restroom. To her surprise, it was a police car!

What did this mean? Had the other side stolen a police car?

She got out and approached, confirming the license plate was indeed 327. Caroline opened the back door and got in.

The driver wore a mask and a police uniform.

But Caroline immediately saw through his disguise; he had a beard and earring marks on his ears.

As soon as Caroline got in, the man silently locked the doors and started the engine without speaking to her.

"Where are my children?" Caroline asked urgently.

He didn't speak, only glancing at her through the rearview mirror, silently checking her out. Despite her exhaustion, her beauty was still stunning, a sight he had never seen before.

Sensing his excessive attention, Caroline became wary. Alone with a strange man in a car, would he have any bad intentions?

"Are those children yours?" the man suddenly asked.

"Yes," Caroline answered briefly.

"Your own children?"

The question seemed to doubt the origin of Ryan and Sophie, like she had picked them up from the roadside.

"Of course."

"You look very young." His implication was that such a young woman couldn't possibly be the mother of two kids.

"The kids are indeed mine. Where are they? Are they safe?" Caroline asked.

"They're fine," the man said.

"Are you a police officer?" Caroline probed.

The man's answer was hesitant, "Yes."

"Where are you taking me?" Caroline asked again.

"You don't need to know for now. If you want to see your kids, just behave," he warned.

"Please let me see my kids. I'm very worried about them. They're so young, not even five years old," Caroline pleaded.

"You will see them, but not now; it's not up to me. You look very tired. Rest for a while," the fake cop said, clearly just a minor player.
