Chapter 158

The scene was extremely eerie. Ryan watched coldly from the side, roughly understanding what was going on.

"Daddy, I'm hungry," Ryan said.

"I'm hungry too," Sophie had been wanting to eat for a while.

"Wait a bit. Let me handle this first, then I'll take you."

"Daddy, he's just a fan of Mommy; why bother with him?" Ryan urged Nick to leave.

"Fan?" Nick looked at Caroline.

Caroline didn't want things to escalate further, so she nodded.

"Are fans this bold nowadays? Bringing flowers directly onto the set? You still have a bruise on your face; did someone hit you? Did you try to seduce someone else's wife and get beaten up? I think you're no good!" Nick scolded.

Joseph and Caroline couldn't understand what Nick meant. Clearly, he was the one who did the beating, so why the act?

"Get in the car, Dad. Show some grace. If you can't even tolerate Mom's fans, it'll be embarrassing if people find out," Ryan said..

Ryan, usually quiet, spoke up to get Nick to leave quickly and avoid exposing Nathan pretending to be Dad. Ryan had to deal with these mundane matters despite his lack of interest.

Nick realized Ryan was right. As a member of the wealthy Kennedy Family, why bother with a fan?

"Alright. Leave now, and I won't pursue this. But if you come back, I won't be so lenient," Nick warned.

"I truly love Carol. We grew up together, and our relationship is very pure. I won't give up on her," Nervously biting his lip, Joseph said.

Nick was unhappy. He showed him respect, but it seemed unappreciated.

Although Nick wasn't as violent as Nathan, he wasn't a pushover either.

"So you ignored everything I said?" Nick's voice turned cold.

Joseph didn't dare to speak or look Nick in the eye, just stood there silently.

"Daddy, I told you not to bother with him," Ryan urged again.

"Exactly, you're acting less mature than a child!" Caroline scolded.

The crew gathered around to watch the drama unfold, with Olivia squeezed in among them.

Since joining the crew, Olivia had noticed that everyone treated Caroline with a noticeable degree of deference, making her own position feel increasingly tenuous.

She later realized that Caroline's influence stemmed from her powerful connections to the Kennedy Family. She even heard that the previous lead actress, Roxanne, was forced out by Caroline.

So she had been cautious, but that didn't mean she was convinced.

Watching the conflict between Joseph and Nick, she thought maybe she still had a chance.

But to her disappointment, the conflict didn't continue because Joseph chickened out and left first.

Knowing Sophie loved children's restaurants, Nick booked the best spot.

And Nick didn't clear the place, it operated as usual, so there were many kids in the restaurant.

Sophie loved lively places; she thrived in settings with great food, fun activities, and plenty of kids.

After eating, Ryan took Sophie to the play area, while Nick and Caroline sat in the lounge area for drinks.

Caroline leaned back in her chair, wanting to sleep. She had no desire to talk to Nick, still resenting him for leaving her in the countryside.

But Nick wasn't having it. It was a rare chance to be alone; how could he let her sleep?

Nick nudged Caroline, and she impatiently swatted his hand away. "What are you doing? Don't touch me."

"Let's talk. The kids will play for a while. We can go back later."

"I didn't say I was in a hurry to leave. I'm tired; let me nap," Caroline said lazily.

"Can you not be so boring?" Nick was a bit annoyed.

"What do you mean by interesting?"

"We rarely get a chance to be alone. We should talk," Nick said pitifully.

"I have nothing to say to you," Caroline said coldly.

"Don't be like this. I want to discuss our marriage."

"Marriage? Didn't you say we wouldn't get married? Fine, we won't. Who cares? Are you trying to humiliate me with this?" Caroline snapped.

Nick was stunned, unable to grasp the sudden shift in Caroline's mood.

"I didn't say we wouldn't get married, I..."

Before Nick could finish speaking, Caroline said angrily, "Nick, don't bother me with this. I know the Kennedys are rich, but that doesn't mean you can toy with me. If we're not getting married, fine. I don't care!"

Nick was shocked. "Oh my, you're so rude!"

Caroline impulsively said such domineering words and felt a bit inappropriate herself.

"Carol."

Caroline waved her hand to interrupt Nick. "My name is Demi."

"Demi," Nick stopped himself. Why did it feel so strange to call her that? Carol sounded better!

"That man with the flowers can call you Carol, why can't I?" Nick was unconvinced.

"Fine, call me whatever you want." Caroline waved her hand, looking disdainful.

Nick couldn't take the blow. Why was she so disdainful of him?

If it were Nathan, he would have gotten angry and walked away. But Nick was different—more patient and determined. He had dated more actresses than most people had seen on TV, and he was confident he could win her.

"I heard you won't sign a prenuptial agreement, right?"

"Yes."

"Actually, signing a prenuptial agreement is an unspoken rule. It's not about lacking confidence in marriage or worrying you'll take my assets."

"No need to explain so much. We're not getting married anyway," Caroline interrupted him again.

"But we are getting married. If you agree to sign the agreement, I can give you fifty percent of my company shares."

Nick was really sincere; he had never said such words to any other girl. It wasn't sweet, but it was incredibly meaningful.

Nick's shares were worth over a billion dollars. Cashing them out would mean absolute financial freedom.

Caroline remained uninterested. She had set those conditions to avoid marriage, and compromising would defeat the purpose.

The Kennedy Family's repeated humiliations and lack of sincerity made it clear that marrying into the family would only lead to more humiliation. Therefore, marriage was out of the question. She couldn't refuse outright; she had to keep stalling. If she rejected the Kennedy Family directly, Nathan would fight for custody, and she would lose her children. She didn't know how long she could stall—hopefully, as long as possible. Sometimes, delaying can lead to unexpected solutions.
