Chapter 92

Sophie was quick on her feet and wrapped her arms around Nick's neck, calling him "Nick" in the sweetest voice.

"Good girl, you're so smart. Ryan, come over here and let me hold you too," Nick called out to Ryan.

But Ryan didn't budge.

It was clear he still wasn't a fan of the flashy Nick.

Nick got the hint that making Ryan do something he didn't want to do was a lost cause.

Seeing Ryan stand his ground, Nick let it go.

"Jack, take Ryan and Sophie outside to wait for us. We need to talk," Nick instructed.

Jack nodded. "Yes, Mr. Nick Kennedy."

Ryan and Sophie obediently followed Jack out.

Now, it was just Nick, Caroline, and a slightly grumpy Nathan left in the office.

The faint scent of orange blossom still hung in the air, something only Nathan seemed to notice.

"I brought Demi here to pick up Ryan and Sophie, but I also want to talk to you," Nick said.

Nathan stayed silent.

Indifference and silence were his usual go-tos; he only showed warmth to Ryan and Sophie.

"I want to marry Demi, and I hope you'll give us your blessing," Nick continued.

Caroline's eyes widened in surprise.

That wasn't what Nick had said on the way here. He only mentioned picking up Ryan and Sophie and then leaving.

More importantly, he told her Nathan wasn't at the company, which was why she decided to come up here.

Caroline found the sudden situation awkward!

Nathan looked up, his cold gaze sweeping over Caroline and Nick.

In terms of looks, she was a good match for Nick. She had a natural star quality, uniquely beautiful, with a distinctive, striking yet flawless elegance that combined innocent girlishness with an elusive, high-class allure, avoiding any trace of overtly sexual demeanor.

Being stared at by Nathan for a few seconds, Caroline felt a bit flustered.

It was very rare that Nathan stared at someone intently.

Feeling the pressure, Caroline broke eye contact after a brief moment and lowered her head.

"Nathan?" Nick noticed Nathan's unusual behavior.

Nathan quickly returned to normal, pretending to read a document. "I'm very busy."

This was a clear signal that Nathan didn't want to talk.

"Nathan, don't be like this. I'm your only brother. How can you treat me this way?" Nick protested.

"Get out," Nathan responded.

To Nathan, Nick's visit today was surely instigated by Caroline.

Nathan hated to be forced to agree. She could forget about getting any response from him!

"Demi, please ask Nathan to agree to our marriage and give us his blessing," Nick turned to Caroline.

Caroline was stunned.

She already didn't get along with Nathan, and now Nick wanted her to ask Nathan? Was this a joke? Supposing that Nathan had originally agreed to their marriage, he would definitely change his attitude once she said anything.

Caroline knew very well that Nathan didn't like her. Because she didn't like him either!

"When did I agree to marry you?" Caroline retorted.

Now it was Nick's turn to be dumbfounded.

So, all this time, he was just wishfully thinking?

"What do you mean by that? We have two kids. If you don't marry me, who else would you marry?" Nick shouted.

"Who I marry is my own business. I never said I would marry you. Requsting me to ask Nathan is absurd. Do I need someone's permission to get married?" Caroline replied coldly.

Nathan's eyes grew even deeper.

What was she playing at? Was she trying to play hard to get?

She clearly had her sights set on marrying into the Kennedy family, so why the act?

She said she didn't need anyone's permission to get married. Did that mean she could choose freely?

"Demi, don't be like this. Nathan is my only brother. I want his blessing for my marriage. We're twins; only with his blessing can I be happy," Nick explained.

"I didn't do anything wrong. This whole thing is ridiculous. I never planned to marry you, and now you want me to beg him? It's utterly baffling!" Caroline shot back coldly.

Caroline's disdain made Nathan's anger rise.

She was too dismissive of him and the entire Kennedy family!

Did she think she was clever enough to manipulate everything to get what she wanted?

"Honey, how can you say that? Can't you talk to Nathan nicely?" Nick was getting anxious.

"I am talking nicely, Nick. My children are my concern. No one else has the right to interfere. Even if you're Ryan and Sophie's biological father, I don't have to marry you," Caroline insisted.

"If you don't marry me, wouldn't that mean Ryan and Sophie will have a stepfather? What if he's not good to them?" Nick pressed.

"I wouldn't consider anyone who isn't good to Ryan and Sophie," Caroline replied.

Nathan was furious. Did she already have someone in mind for marriage? Was she really planning to marry someone else and let the man be Ryan and Sophie's stepfather?

Nathan's thoughts flew back to that moment in Sawyer's room.

Even though the closet door was closed, Nathan knew she was hiding inside!

Was the person she intended to marry really Sawyer?

If that were true, the web of relationships would be incredibly complex.

Nathan didn't dare delve deeper; it was too preposterous. Caroline was too scheming!

He couldn't let her get close to anyone associated with the Kennedy family, nor could he allow her to stay in this city!

But Ryan and Sophie had to be brought back to the Kennedy family. Their character couldn't be affected by Caroline!

"Nick, get out," Nathan suddenly turned to Nick.

"Why?" Nick was stunned. As the main character of the engagement ceremony, he was being asked to leave. What was going on?

"Get out!" Nathan repeated impatiently.

"Alright," Nick didn't dare disobey and obediently left the room.

The atmosphere suddenly became tense, and Caroline found it hard to breathe.

Nathan stood up and slowly approached Caroline.

Caroline was panicked, doubting, 'Is Nathan planning to kill me right here?'

She tried to comfort herself, 'Probably not. After all, he is a man of status and won't risk everything for someone as insignificant as me.'

Nathan stopped in front of Caroline, finding the scent of orange blossom even stronger, filling his nostrils.

His inner turmoil was like a storm raging inside him. He was both infatuated with this scent and deeply loathed her, wishing she would disappear immediately.

Over the years, he had constantly sought out this unique fragrance. However, when Caroline appeared, he hoped she would stay away out of repulsion. However, that would mean the scent disappeared with her.

Nathan's gaze made Caroline feel immense pressure. She mustered the courage to look up and meet his eyes.

To her surprise, she saw a hint of confusion and bewilderment in Nathan's cold eyes.

Interestingly, this perfect man could also be confused?

"Who do you plan to marry?" Nathan finally spoke.
