Chapter 131
Sophie puffed out her cheeks. "Mommy said so."
"Alright, I'll tell Nathan right away that you're not into him," Nick declared.
"Why do you always have to be so annoying? What's the point of doing these silly things?" Caroline asked, puzzled.
"Want to hear the truth?" Nick raised an eyebrow.
"Of course, you don't think I'd be interested in lies, do you?" Caroline said irritably.
"I think Nathan looks at you in a special way too," Nick said, pretending to be serious.
"Ridiculous! You guys are such drama queens!" Caroline glared at him.
"Well, that makes things a lot easier," Nick responded with a smile.
"Don't talk about this in front of Ryan and Sophie!" Caroline scolded.
"Alright." Nick wisely shut his mouth, "We'll talk about it privately then."
"Get out. Stop messing around in my room!" Caroline pointed towards the door.
"I'm just letting you know it's time for dinner," Nick quickly explained.
Sophie heard this and immediately jumped for joy. "Yay, dinner time!"
"Didn't you just eat?" Caroline looked at Sophie in confusion.
"Mommy, that was lunch, now it's dinner time!"
"Don't you need a break? Going straight to dinner?" Caroline asked casually, but she was actually concerned about Nick, who had been working hard lately.
"I've rested enough. Change your clothes and meet at the hotel restaurant. The chef there is pretty good, I guarantee you'll be satisfied," Nick said, making a funny face before leaving.
In stark contrast to Nathan's calm demeanor, Nick's behavior was particularly lively.
A moment later, Caroline dressed up and led Ryan and Sophie into the restaurant, where the table was filled with an array of delicious dishes.
Every dish made Caroline's mouth water, but she had no interest in fish. After several days of fish feasts, she was almost sick of it and felt uncomfortable just looking at it.
Once seated, Sophie could hardly wait.
Ryan reminded Sophie to act like a graceful lady, so Sophie pretended to be indifferent to the food, but kept swallowing her saliva.
"Nathan, we're just waiting for you," Nick called out towards the door.
Soon after, Nathan, dressed in a sharp black suit, walked in with steady steps.
He had shaved his beard and neatly combed his hair, transforming from a jungle warrior into a serious business elite.
Caroline had to admit, even though Nathan's personality was frustrating, he was undeniably handsome. Whether it was his physique, face, or demeanor, he was top-notch.
There were many handsome men, but few as outstanding as him.
Following Nathan was the equally handsome Sawyer. Though both were good-looking, they had different styles.
Sawyer's handsomeness leaned more towards beauty, combining masculine ruggedness with a touch of feminine grace, making him exceptionally unique.
With Nick, Caroline, and the two adorable kids, even the waitstaff were stunned. This table was a feast for the eyes.
"Let's start," Nathan said calmly after sitting down.
Sophie couldn't hold back any longer and immediately dove into the food.
However, Caroline insisted that she serve Sophie, as it was the table's rule.
Nathan noticed this detail and nodded to himself, appreciating that Caroline at least knew how to teach basic manners to the children.
Despite not having tasted such delicious food in a long time, Nathan ate with composure.
Caroline, having grown up in a privileged family, also displayed good manners, but compared to Nathan's calm demeanor, she seemed to lack a bit of elegance.
The least concerned about their image were Sophie and Sawyer.
Sawyer almost kept his head down the entire time, eating voraciously without saying a word, thoroughly enjoying himself.
Seeing this, Nathan felt a pang of heartache. "Sway, slow down."
"Daddy, it's delicious!" Sawyer's face was full of happiness and satisfaction.
"Nathan, Sawyer's condition is serious and needs immediate treatment," Nick frowned.
"I've already reached out to leading international neurologists. We'll start treatment as soon as we get back to Silver Lake City. From what I've researched, it shouldn't be a major issue; recovery is just a matter of time."Nathan said steadily.
"That's good to hear. He's been through so much."
"Fake daddy!" Sawyer glanced at Nick. Then he turned to Nathan. "Daddy." Finally, he looked at Caroline and said, "Mommy!"
Even though she knew his special mental condition, Caroline still felt awkward.
Sophie sighed. "Sawyer, get better soon so you won't compete with us for Mommy!"
"I'll take Sway back to Silver Lake City tonight. You guys can adjust and leave tomorrow," Nathan said.
"In such a hurry? You should rest a bit, Nathan, you've been through a lotlately."
"I'm fine. There's a lot of work at the office, and Grandpa is worried too. I need to get back quickly, and I can rest on the plane."
"Alright then," Nick nodded in agreement.
"Mommy, are we going with Nathan?" Ryan looked at Caroline expectantly.
Caroline was taken aback. Why would Ryan favor Nathan?
"We'll go back tomorrow," Caroline said.
Nathan was clearly unwilling to go along, so why force it?
"Okay," Ryan nodded obediently, but his face was full of disappointment.
"Rest well before going back. Daddy will be with you," Nathan said gently to Ryan.
"Got it," Ryan responded.
"Ryan and Sophie's rooms are already prepared. Once we get back to Silver Lake City, they can move in," Nathan added.
Caroline was shocked. Did this mean he wanted to take Ryan and Sophie back to the Kennedy Family?
"They have always lived with me," Caroline immediately argued.
Nathan's face darkened instantly. "You can't ensure their safety. This incident has clearly proven that. Do you want to put the kids in danger again?"
Caroline was momentarily speechless. "Are you saying this whole incident is entirely my fault?"
"Not entirely, but you can't protect the kids. The Kennedy children are are unlike any others; they're always in the spotlight. Living in a low-security neighborhood, they could be attacked at any time!"
The atmosphere became tense, and Ryan and Sophie looked at each other, not daring to speak.
"It was your girlfriend who planned all this, not my fault! And Ryan and Sophie weren't kidnapped at home, so you can't blame me!" Caroline raised her voice.
"This isn't about assigning blame. We're discussing Ryan and Sophie's safety. They'll be safer with the Kennedy Family. We can't let them take risks again!" Nathan was extremely impatient. He thought Caroline's behavior was selfish, completely disregarding Ryan and Sophie's safety, only wanting to possess them.
Caroline felt full of grievances. She did have selfish motives; she didn't want the Kennedy Family to take away Ryan and Sophie's custody.
But they were her children. Was it really wrong for her to be a little selfish? After all, a mother's fear of losing her children comes from a place of love.
Caroline's eyes suddenly reddened. Normally composed, she couldn't hold back the urge to cry. An indescribable sense of grievance overwhelmed her, and she struggled to calm her emotions.
"Mommy," Sophie said in a panic, putting down her fork and looking at Caroline.
"I won't go live with the Kennedy Family!" Ryan, usually silent, spoke up, clearly supporting Caroline.
"Me neither. I want to stay with Mommy!" Sophie quickly echoed.
