Chapter 129
"There's no time to explain everything now; we need to leave right away,"Nathan replied.
"Oh right, where's my darling? I've missed you so much!" Nick shouted as he lunged towards Caroline, trying to embrace her.
Caroline quickly dodged behind John. "Don't do that!"
"You're my darling, so it's only right for me to hug you. What's wrong with that?" Nick protested.
Sawyer stepped in front of Caroline. "Fake dad!"
"What are you butting in for?" Nick questioned.
"He's the real dad," Sawyer pointed at Nathan.
"Alright, enough. Nick, where did you fly in from?" Nathan asked.
"From Silvercrest back home. The government there helped us cross the border. It only takes half an hour to fly to Silvercrest."
"That's great! First, take Ryan and Sophie out, then come back for us before dark. There are too many people, so we'll need two trips," Nathan planned.
"Okay, shall we leave now?" Nick asked.
"Let's go. Ryan, take your mom to the plane," Nathan instructed, but didn't directly address Caroline.
"Mom and Sophie go first, I'll stay with Nathan," Ryan unexpectedly replied, surprising everyone. Ryan's willingness to stay was touching and unusual.
"It's okay; you go first. Nathan will follow soon," Nathan reassured.
"No, I'll wait for Nathan."
"Stop arguing. Ryan can come with us; there's enough room."
"No, you go first, I'll take the next trip," Nathan insisted.
Caroline sensed that Nathan didn't want to be on the same plane as her, which suited her just fine.
"Come on, Ryan, be a good boy," Caroline pulled Ryan over.
Ryan looked at Nathan, then at Caroline, sensing the subtle tension between them. Ryan didn't want to leave Nathan behind when there was a chance to stay.
"Go on! I promise to come find you soon," Nathan knelt down, gently stroking Ryan.
Ryan obediently hugged Nathan. "Then I'll go first. Be careful."
"Don't worry. I will come soon" Nathan's voice was unusually gentle, a tenderness only Ryan and Sophie could enjoy.
"Okay, I'll wait for Nathan to come back and have dinner together," Ryan promised.
"You two guys are so mushy; I can't stand it," Sophie said jealously.
Caroline glared at Sophie, who pouted.
"Ryan, let's go; get on the plane with Dad," Nick reached out to pick up Ryan.
But Ryan refused, "No, I want Nathan to carry me up."
"How come you're acting like you're not even familiar with me?" Nick asked, both amused and exasperated.
"Alright, let's go," Nathan gently patted Ryan's head.
In the end, Ryan obediently let Nick carry him as they slowly walked towards the plane.
Finally, the plane carrying them landed steadily on the rooftop helipad of a luxurious hotel in Silvercrest.
Stepping out of the cabin, Caroline took a deep breath of the city's familiar air and declared with satisfaction, "It's great to be back in the city!"
The first thing she needed was a long, refreshing bath, a change of clothes, and then a good nap! Next, she planned to indulge in at least three feasts to celebrate her return!
"The rooms are ready, and new clothes for you and the kids are prepared. After you bathe and change, go enjoy some food and then rest well. I need to handle the plane refueling and then pick up Ryan. We'll be reunited tonight. Love you."
Nick exaggeratedly made a heart shape with his hands, making Caroline shiver and get goosebumps.
Despite his flamboyant style, Nick was meticulous with details, even getting the clothing sizes perfectly right.
After freshening up, Ryan clamored to sleep, while Sophie insisted on eatingfirst.
In fact, both were equally important. Since entering the jungle, they hadn't enjoyed a peaceful meal or a good night's sleep.
For Sophie, a true foodie, sleep could wait; food was always her top priority.
"Let's sleep first," Ryan agreed.
"I'm hungry. I want chicken legs, shrimp, ice cream..." Sophie started listing the menu, her mouth already watering.
"Sophie, we've been eating light for days. If you suddenly binge, your stomach won't handle it. Do you know what will happen? Ryan, tell Sophie," Caroline turned to Ryan.
"Our stomachs are this small now," Ryan gestured. "If we eat too much at once, our stomachs will feel very uncomfortable. It can't handle that much food, and we'll get sick. Then we'll only be able to drink porridge," Ryan explained further.
Sophie immediately wailed, "No, I want delicious food!"
