Chapter 123

Sawyer glanced at her and said rudely , "Who are you? You're so ugly!"

Roxanne flared up; even in his delirium, he was so venomous!

Sophie giggled. "Haha, even when Sawyer's brain is fried, he still speaks the truth!"

"Sophie, stop it," Caroline spoke up again.

Nathan waved his hand, signaling everyone to leave, leaving only Nathan, Ryan, and Sawyer in the corner.

"Come here," Nathan beckoned to Sawyer.

"Daddy," Sawyer sweetly called out.

Nathan frowned slightly and looked at Ryan, who shrugged helplessly.

"What's wrong with him?"

"It seems the poison has deeply affected his nervous system," Ryan analyzed.

"Is he suffering from amnesia or a mental disorder?" Nathan's brow furrowed deeply.

"Hard to say. The toxin might have damaged his brain. We need to get him to a hospital for a thorough check-up. We're at a loss right now," Ryan explained.

Nathan sighed; the situation was beyond his expectations.

"Nathan, don't worry. Sawyer will get better. Once the toxin is expelled and with proper medication, he should recover," Ryan comforted.

"So we just have to watch him like this for now?"

"For the time being, yes. We need to get back to the city as soon as possible for systematic treatment."

Nathan nodded, agreeing to the plan.

"Daddy, I want candy." Sawyer snuggled up to Nathan like a spoiled child.

Then Nathan instructed his subordinate, "Bring him a bowl of fish soup!"

Soon, the fish soup was brought in, but Sawyer pouted. "It stinks!"

Given the rough conditions, the fish soup naturally couldn't satisfy a picky palate.

Nathan looked at Sawyer, feeling helpless.

"Let me try," Roxanne volunteered.

"Sway, drink some fish soup. You need nutrition to regain strength," Roxanne gently coaxed.

Unexpectedly, Sawyer was ungrateful. "Go away, ugly!"

Roxanne was both ashamed and angry. As a top-tier celebrity, being called ugly was a huge insult!

She cursed inwardly. Why wasn't he poisoned to death?!

At that moment, Caroline entered, and Sawyer's gaze locked onto her.

Caroline felt uneasy under his stare and was about to leave when Sawyer suddenly ran over, grabbed her hand, and sweetly called out, "Mommy!"

The room fell silent.

Was his confused mind making him mistake people?

"Don't call me that. I don't like misunderstandings," Caroline said awkwardly.

"Mommy, I want candy!" Sawyer continued to act cute, ignoring her words.

Sophie's eyes sparkled. "Mommy, is he being cute?"

Caroline was exasperated. "I'm Caroline. Don't call me that!"

She tried to pull away but was tightly held by Sawyer. "Mommy, don't go."

He then grabbed Nathan. "Daddy, Mommy, buy candy!"

Sophie burst into laughter again. "Mommy, Sawyer wants you and Nathan to be a couple!"

Ryan shot a warning glance, and Sophie quickly fell silent, sticking out her tongue.

Caroline coughed awkwardly and pointed to her head, saying, "Everyone, don't take it seriously. Sway might be a bit confused."

"Mommy, candy," Sawyer persisted.

"Sway, be good. Drink the soup first. Once you're better, we'll go back to the city and buy you candy," Caroline said softly.

Hearing this, Sawyer's eyes shifted as if he understood something.

He actually took the fish soup and drank it in big gulps.

Nathan's tightly furrowed brow relaxed a bit. The current situation was beyond everyone's expectations.

No matter what, it was a blessing that Sawyer survived.

Although Sawyer was awake, he was still weak. After playing for a while, he showed signs of fatigue, and Caroline had to coax him to lie down. Soon, he fell asleep peacefully.

Caroline let out a deep sigh of relief. Taking care of Ryan and Sophie had already exhausted her, and now with Sawyer added to the mix, she was on the verge of collapse.

The murmurs of the team members could be heard outside the camp.

"Sawyer must have something wrong with his head. He called Mr. Kennedy 'Daddy' and Ms. Rockefeller 'Mommy'!"

"They make a good match, though. A talented man and a beautiful woman."

"Don't talk nonsense."

Roxanne passed by, and those comments felt like needles to her heart.

"What are you mumbling about? Go catch some fish if you have nothing to do."

The team members obeyed on the surface but secretly mocked her, 'Even a delirious Sawyer thinks you're ugly, what are you so proud of?'

That day, Roxanne was uneasy, waiting for the right moment, but the opportunity never came.

By dinner time, the perfect opportunity presented itself. She volunteered to help with the meal, personally serving the delicious fish to Ryan and Sophie.

In a quiet, unnoticed moment, two drops of Silvermoon Herb extract silently blended into the fish soup. Ryan had once mentioned that a single drop could bring down a strong bull. With a double dose, it would be enough to put the children into a deep sleep. If Caroline consumed it too, all three of them would surely meet their end.

Thinking of this, Roxanne felt a dark joy. With Caroline and her children out of the way, nothing would stand in her path!

However, the guilty could not escape her conscience.. When serving the fish, she avoided Ryan and Sophie's clear eyes and quickly returned to the noisy crowd.

About twenty minutes later, a heart-wrenching cry came from the cabin.

"Ms. Murphy is poisoned!" a team member exclaimed.

Roxanne blended into the crowd, only to see Caroline collapsed on the ground, foaming at the mouth, with Ryan beside her, eyes tightly shut, seemingly unconscious.

"What happened?" Nathan's face was grim, his voice cold and trembling.

"Mommy and Ryan got poisoned after eating the fish.," Sophie cried sorrowfully, repeatedly calling out, "Mommy."

"Why is this happening? What should we do?" Nathan was frantic. Ryan had always been his trusted support, and now with Ryan in danger, he felt helpless.

"They won't be harmed, absolutely not!" Nathan's fierce expression and steely gaze silenced everyone.

"Why were you unharmed?" Roxanne asked softly.

"I wasn't hungry, so I didn't eat," Sophie sobbed.

Nathan grabbed Roxanne's arm. "Do you wish she was harmed too?"

Terrified, Roxanne stammered, "No... that's not what I meant..."

"What's the antidote? Can anyone tell me?" Nathan roared.

Silence fell over the room; no one had an answer. Caroline lay motionless on the ground.

If they were at a hospital, there might be hope, but here, they were helpless. Caroline's poisoning was different from Sawyer's; his external wounds could be treated with leeches to draw out the poison, but Caroline had ingested it directly, leaving no remedy.

"Mr. Kennedy, it seems Ms. Murphy's condition is dire. I'm sorry for your loss," Roxanne whispered.

"No, there's no way they'll be in danger!!" Nathan, like an enraged lion, sprang into action, performing CPR and doing everything he could to save her.

The crowd was stunned, neither daring to flee nor to intervene.

"Mr. Kennedy," John called out, trembling, but hesitated to speak.

Nathan gradually calmed down. "Why were they poisoned, but no one else was?" His gaze was sharp as a blade, sweeping over the crowd, making everyone shrink back.
