Chapter 169

Nick really didn't leave; he was waiting in the hospital parking lot.

Nathan left, but he stayed. He had to find out why Caroline was getting involved with Joseph!

The phone suddenly rang, and when Nick saw the caller ID, he quickly answered, "What's up?"

He wanted to be stern with Caroline, but when it came time to speak, he couldn't do it. After all, she was the one who had given birth to Ryan and Sophie for the Kennedy family and raised them on her own. He just couldn't bring himself to be harsh with her.

"Sway asked me to call you. He said he wants to go out for barbecue. Where do you think is a good place?" Caroline said.

She didn't even ask if he agreed, just directly asked him to choose a place. If something went wrong, the responsibility would naturally fall on him. Nick was also troubled when he heard this. Wasn't it agreed that Sway wouldn't leave the hospital? Now Sway wanted to go out for barbecue. What if something happened?

"Did you agree to it?" Nick frowned and asked.

"Wasn't it you who agreed?" Caroline retorted.

"I didn't agree." Nick got anxious.

"Then maybe Sway tricked me. When I heard you agreed to take him out, I agreed too, so I called to ask where would be a good place to eat."

"No way, he can't go out. Nathan said he can't be seen until he's fully recovered. It's too risky," Nick said firmly.

"Got it, you just listen to Nathan. You're like a broken record. Whatever he says, you do. You have no thoughts or opinions of your own, like a puppet," Caroline mocked.

Nick couldn't take this. "What are you talking about? Am I that kind of person?"

"If you had your own opinion, would you need to ask Nathan to take Sway out for barbecue? If Nathan didn't let you eat, would you starve?" Caroline retorted mercilessly.

Nick was so angry he wanted to hang up the phone but held back. "Nathan is also thinking about Sway. He's a public figure; going out is risky. If people find out about his current condition, his career might be over."

"The Kennedy family is so wealthy. Even if Sway doesn't become an artist, can't they arrange a decent job for him? In the end, it's all about your own interests," Caroline paused and continued, "Do you see Sway as a money-making tool or as a family? If he's family, you should fulfill his request!"

Sawyer, listening on the side, nodded frequently, agreeing with Caroline.

Nick thought about it and felt it made sense. Sway surviving such a disaster was already a miracle. Was a career really that important? Even if Sway did nothing for the rest of his life, the Kennedy family's wealth was enough to keep him well-fed and clothed. He shouldn't have worried so much.

"Alright, we'll take him out secretly. Don't let Nathan know," Nick compromised.

Caroline felt a burst of joy inside. "Of course, we'll keep it a secret!"

Sawyer, hearing he could leave the hospital, was so happy he almost jumped up and quickly found clothes to change into.

Caroline walked out of the ward, closed the door, and saw Nick coming out of the elevator. She immediately pulled him aside and pointed to the bodyguards by the elevator. "What about these bodyguards?"

"No need to deal with them. Who dares to stop me if I want to go out?" Nick said indifferently.

"Are you stupid? It's not you going out; it's you taking Sway out. They won't stop you, but they can report to Nathan. What will you do then?" Caroline scolded.

"Then what do you suggest?"

"Figure it out yourself. They're your bodyguards, not mine."

"I don't have any ideas."

"Give them money and let them go eat," Caroline suggested.

"I never carry cash. How do I give them money?"

Caroline sighed, "You're really dumb. Just designate a restaurant and let them charge it to your account. With your status, don't you have that much authority?"

"Good idea!"

Nick admired Caroline greatly, thinking she was the only one who could rival Nathan.

Nick walked up, and the bodyguards immediately bowed their heads. "Mr. Nick Kennedy!"

"Good job, you guys go eat," Nick instructed.

"Someone's bringing food," the bodyguard said.

"I'm treating you to something good. Go to Alpine Haven Restaurant on Main Street. A feast awaits you there."

The bodyguards exchanged glances. Alpine Haven Restaurant was a high-end place. Their monthly salary wasn't enough for one meal there. Was this a stroke of luck?

"Mr. Nick Kennedy, Mr. Nathan Kennedy instructed us not to leave here until the shift change," the bodyguard said with difficulty.

"Are you refusing to respect me?" Nick said sternly. "Just go, drop my name, and enjoy all the food and drink you want. I'll handle the bill," Nick waved his hand.

The bodyguards exchanged looks again. "What if Mr. Nathan Kennedy finds out?"

"Nathan won't know. Rewarding hardworking employees is his style too. Go ahead," Nick assured.

The bodyguards nodded and then entered the elevator, cheering. Such good fortune didn't come around often!

Sawyer was already dressed and in a great mood. He shouted with joy as he stepped out.

"Thanks, Nick!" Sawyer thanked Nick.

"No need; it was her idea," Nick pointed to Caroline.

Caroline realized Nick was trying to shift the responsibility. She thought, 'He's really cunning!'

"Still, thank Nick. He chose the place."

"Thank you both," Sawyer replied briefly.

As long as he kept his words short, he wouldn't reveal his stutter.

"But you need to disguise yourself. Wear a mask and a hat. You're a superstar; you can't be recognized. If someone recognizes you, Nick can't bear the responsibility." Caroline subtly shifted the responsibility back to Nick.
